Amazing work! Simple and effective! Anyone who discredits organic and sustainable farming must not realise the magnitude of chemicals used and the truth of how the interact with the human body.

so if more cost (pesticides add cost) are accrued when farming conventionally, then why is organic produce 100% higher in prices?

True organic farmers won't use any pesticides. Which is why you hafta certify it, they wont let anything slip like that

I hope you understand that not every crop goes through the same pesticide/herbicide treatment that she said the carrots go through....

For those of you doubting the value of organic foods, just look into scientific research published on the topic, especially the correlation between pesticide exposure and genital size :)

@mithilag I feel I have presented a well rounded overview of organics, you are welcome to disagree. However, abusing another human being and using words of hate is seriously not cool. If you feel so strongly about your beliefs, go out and do something rather than criticizing those people that do act. I suggest you do some research, start by doing a google search "where have all the bees gone?" and "bees and Bauer pesticide", the results will surprise you.

As people before me have stated, this video tosses aside the definition of organic that reads "carbon-based." It rejects this definition simply because it would count petroleum as organic. So, when people refer to "organic matter," this is only referring to chemical pesticide-free produce? You can define "organic" as it is relating to agriculture, but PLEASE don't outright reject the definition used by thousands of organic chemists everywhere.

While it is fine for an individual farmer to think of "organic" as a philosophical approach to food production, the reality the consumer faces is much more complicated. The FDA has very specific, and sometimes politically motivated, criteria for what can be termed "organic" and what can't. Some stuff you would frown upon still gets to be "organic" due to loopholes, and some really good organic stuff is NOT labeled as such, because the farmers sometimes don't want to deal with govt hassles.

Good presentation. I've had an organic garden for years. God, the ignorance in some of these
comment is frightening. If you are pro-organic, and anti-toxins, that somehow makes you a hippy?? What's the deal ? Are these morons shills for Monsanto?

Organic farming methods are not low tech, they just don't ruin the soil like some conventional farming practices. Organic farming methods ensure food production for generations to come which is surely what everyone wants!

"Poverty is a major contributory factor to food security, organic farmers benefit from (i) cash savings, as organic farming precludes the need to purchase synthetic pesticides and fertilisers; (ii) extra incomes gained by selling the surplus produce(resulting from the change to organic); (iii) premium prices for certified organic produce, obtained primarily in Africa for export but also for domestic markets" unctad.org/en/docs/ditcted200715_en.pdf

You seem to have a different definition of "Organic" than the people marketing it. Which in the end is all that matters when people see the term organic at the super market. To put a organic label on a product, you don't have to do any of the thing you suggest except for the rejected definition you put at the beginning. In the end, people will still buy into that as organic because that is what they see when they buy. It really doesn't matter what you say or do since the world is run by money.

At least someone on this channel understand the marketin of organic. cant w8 until the organic trend go way. there is no difference between commercial / organic farmer. Its jst commercial farm is more modern and use modern tech. organic farmers want us 2 farm in hte dark ages.

  • @ergoplex

Um... that's just wrong information. If you research what the pesticides and large corporations have done to, for example, poor farmers in India, you will find that not only the land is devastated (leaving the farmers helpless), but also unable to pay for all the pesticides. Research Monsanto for example. Now, if you look at Vandana Shiva's work, you will find that organic farming has been able to save the global food crises extraordinarily well. Research something before making those claims.

Very cute voice, love it. But total rubbish. "Organic", in modern-day marketing terminology, simply means that certain pesticides can be used and others not. One result is that "organic" farms use, in general, more land per unit produce than "conventional" farms - which defeats somewhat the purpose of "organic" farming (more natural forest must be destroyed to produce the same quantity of crops).

This is the most ridiculous video I have ever seen. While organic food and local food is good, many do not recognize what "organic" now means. Organic food is now commercialized and industrialized. The video maker, while demonizing the conventional farmer, failed to note the guidelines of putting "organic" on a product. Organic farmers still can use chemicals and other GMO's in their crops. The word "organic" sadly is now merely a marketing tool. Read books by Michael Pollan for more info.

so the whole field of organic chemistry is completely wrong just because you say so?
organic means carbon containing chemicals, and hydrocarbons are a big part of that.
Of course, my apologises though. I don't want to take away from your notion that the only way of producing food in large enough quantities to feed enough of the much of the world is wrong. Instead that we should only produce food in a method that is good for those that can afford better food. I agree lets starve the poor

Organic = Better Taste, Better Health.
Not to Mention Micro RNA we Digest in our Food.
Which is not broken down When we eat it, Its actually stored into our cells & the Function of Micro-RNA is Gene Regulation.
Giving a literal meaning to "You are what you eat"
Changing a gene within a DNA structure leads to unpredictable results,
And Genetic Engineers have no control over where a Gene will splice into DNA..
Ultimately we have no Idea whatsoever What Genetically Modified Micro-RNA will do to the Biology of people who consume GMO foods.
All I know is Throughout History (Before Genetic Modification) Foods were perfectly fine the way they were. There is More than enough food on this planet to feed everyone, The problem is Access to it, Not Quantity of it.
So there is No excuse to Genetically Modify food into Vast Quantity's of Garbage.
