    Hi Tash, really enjoyed listening to your explanation of all the different ways you might adjust your neckline and the crochet slip stitch sounds like a great choice. What a gorgeous jumper!
    I’m always a bit worried about the stretch and bounce back of the neckline in kids jumpers so I’ll give Judy’s Magic tubular cast on a try.
    A friend asked me to make a special hat and as a thank you she gave me a bag of goodies which included wool that belonged to her dear departed mum. ❤ One ball still had the ‘Safeway Variety’ price sticker on it - 40 cents!!!
    I love the look of the sewn bind off on your Friend from the vault.
    Thanks for such a great episode, as usual full of fabulous tips and inspiration! 😃🧶

    Oh that blue! Ankers Tee…great blue for you! Thank you for all the details on your projects. I have only just begun to tackle sweater knitting. It’s great to learn how to think when trying to modify and problem solving fit issues.
    Roxanne and Suzanne are sooo awesome!! Norman of Nimble Needles has a lot of great info too. Thank heavens for the videos on the internet and all those that share knitting their knowledge!! 💜 My my daughter enjoyed a semester at Bond University quite a few years ago. When she came back to the States she couldn’t wait to get back there!! She loves Australia!!

    The pink velvet is looking so beautiful. I think I like the neck as it is.I can’t wait to see the bamboo knitted up. The sheen on that looks so sharp! Exciting about your trip! My nephew from Melbourne left for Japan about 3 weeks ago. He’s there for 2 years going to school to study accounting. Always something he has wanted to do for many years. Had a dream and made it happen! Apparently loving it! Good luck with the skirt❤

    Love your podcast. Found it because I was looking for a tutorial for the Field Sweater. You’re explanation of how todo a grain was very helpful. The whole grain area is hard for the hands but once you’ve finished it, it is such a reward: beautiful. Almost done with the second sleeve and knitting on 3.75 mm needles. So thank you! And i hope you love your trip to Japan. Japanese design is gorgeous.

    I love knitting with Felted Tweed and it's a yarn easily found in South Africa, I just need to wash a few times as I find it a little scratchy but love it. I really enjoy your podcasts as you come across so relatable to me being from the southern hemisphere and having friends and relatives in Australia can relate. Thank you for this. I am also bus with the Petite Knit patterns love them and have just purchased Sandnes Garn Line from my recent travels to Europe and have just started my second Ankers Summer Tee love the pattern and perfect for our weather. Hope you have an amazing week and look forward to next week. !!!

    Hi Tash, I’m constantly amazed at how much you manage to knit on all your projects! I have received a Pink Velvet kit from Skein so I am looking forward to starting that and I’m finding your comments very helpful. I have my Sailor Swift started and stuck to the original colours as I love the classic look, I’m really interested to see it in your colours. The Ankers tee and the Exploration Station have been in my queue forever so I hope to cast at least one on soon but I will no doubt get distracted by all the advent knits. The Noisy Miners are native birds, Indian Mynas are an introduced pest 😊. Looking forward to see your progress.

    Wow, Tash, you've got lots of beauties on your needles! Your Pink Velvet is gorgeous (even better than Andrea's) and I think your neckline solution will be perfect....elegant, as you said. I also love your Field Sweater....best one I've seen. The Soho Top is a winner too...I love garter stitch used creatively. And Steven West's shawls shine best when styled and worn, so I'm looking forward to that. As for your Friend from the Vault.....wonderful! What an interesting classic.
    I'd like to add a suggestion to your long list of tutorials: one showing you duplicate stitching your Anker Summer Top where the short rows turn around. I'd love to see how to do that. Thanks for your good company.

    I am so excited for you and Zach to be able to go to Japan. Hopefully you will bump into a yarn shop or two in your travels.

    hi Tash! lovely vest from the vault! loving all your wips, as I said other times, you keep making me want to knit more and more things but I am realizing more and more that I am so slow that I really need to be very picky because I will not be able to make all the things...at the moment knitting a ranunculus for my oldest niece...I am sure whatever you decide with the pink velvet it's going to be great. I love how you deeply think through every project and share. 🌷You are making me thinking about trying to restart a half and half myself. I wrote in a previous message that I started one with drops alpaca, but I feel the garter does not come out as "smooth" as I want, I usually have a good result with stockinette, not sure if it's the yarn, that I have not knit with yet, or if it's the garter and the yarn..I am not going to make such a huge piece of knitting if I feel the stitches do not come out even...lovely pale blue combo! gorgeous! good luck for the driving license thing 🤞🏻

    For your Pink Velvet: Helle from Danish Musings recently made a removable turtleneck collar for one of her sweaters that she can tuck in and wear when she wants a cozier neck. And leave off when she doesn't need it

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my gosh Jacquelyn. I saw that episode and didn’t even make the connection. What a great idea. I have plenty of yarn. I can make a little cowl/collar for when I go outside or whatever. Yay! That’s brilliant. No matter what I do with the neckline, it is still going to be a bit low. So this will be something that would be good if I need it for the chill. :)

    Hi Tash…I have been watching your podcasts for a little while now. I love seeing your progress each week. The first one I watched was with your friend Bec and I got a chuckle from her mentioning That Yarn Place in Samford which is my LYS where I attend a knitting group most Sunday afternoons. I finally decided to leave a comment as you mentioned you were heading to Japan and were after yarn shop recommendations. I was in Tokyo in September and I made a trip to Walnut which I believe also has a shop in Kyoto. They are the stores behind the Amirisu yarn brand and magazine. The Tokyo shop was small but had a selection of yarns that we don’t have here in Australia. I think the Kyoto shop is a bit larger. I picked up some of their Amirisu yarn (Parade and Swing). I would have loved to visit some other shops but we only had a couple of days stopover on the way home and not much space left in the bags. I think you will all love Japan.

      Hi Leanne. Thanks so much for leaving a comment. I love that That Yarn Place is your LYS. The people there are so friendly and the shop has beautiful yarn and products. Thanks so much for the Walnut suggestion. We are staying 2kms from the Kyoto shop and there for 4 days so definitely going to visit. Woot! Thanks for watching and for saying hello. 😊

    Thank you yet again for a wonderful podcast. My husband and I went to Japan in June. I went to a wonderful yarn store in Tokyo-they also have a branch in Kyoto. The store is called Walnut, and they are behind the Amirisu line of yarns and publication. The staff couldn't be more lovely. If you can fit it in, it's a must. Your Pink Velvet is looking wonderful. I did try Roxanne's crochet suggestion at t he base of the ribbing. It didn't work for me but maybe you will have better luck. I think your neckline looks lovely the way it is. When I resumed knitting some years ago, the first sweater I made was a Heidi Kirmaier design. Thank you so much again!!!!!

    Hey Tash,
    As always I really enjoyed your vlog today. Thankyou for making me feel less picky about not liking those short row holes, I have tried all sorts of tricks to make them look better but some just want to remain, duplicate stitch really is a knitters friend. I also recall a wise and experienced knitter once say, she could tell the difference between a beginner knitter and an experienced knitter by the finishing. That was Staci of Very Pink knits fame in case you were curious.
    I also got a lot out of your chat about your pink velvet collar, which is coming out stunning btw. Im currently knitting a cotton tolsta, and its collar is a wee bit big, I shouldnt have used the german twisted cast on, but saying that I did that cast on with the tolsta I did for skien sisters, that was ok, and this is only one size up. Anyway, I have knitting elastic by clover but its very thin, it would be very fiddly to weave in as an afterthought, but I had not heard of this crochet slip stitch by Roxanne so Im going to try that out, thankyou for the tip. I also love Roxanne and Suzanne. Although they are both amazing, I find I go to Roxanne for the full explanations and to Suzanne for the perfectionism.
    Hope you are having a lovely week,
    Tara

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much Tara. I think those short row holes are less visible on one side and certainly less visible with wool than with cotton. Sometimes it is just feeling ok that you havent done anything "wrong" if you have them.

They say they are Hex beads. So they are in the shape of a hexagon. Maybe that is why they seem a bit "sharper" than others i have used. Maybe not so much sharp but with 6 defined sides, they seem that way...

    Yay, Friday after work wine and Mainly Knitting while hubby goes to pick up takeaways, how indulgent 😊 Re Soho top - if you're worried about the 3 needle bindoff disturbing the garter bump rows across the top of the shoulders,, could you kitchener the purl bump rows together (creating the knit row in between)? Would that work? If your live stitches are a knit row, might need to create a purl row using the live stiches first... just a thought? Wouldn't give you structure but you could crochet a chain underneath once finished if needed. Or i might be really overthinking it 😄 have a lovely weekend

    • @mostlyknitting
      @mostlyknitting  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Julie, Thank you for your thoughts. I get what you mean. But i think Kitchener would kind of be the same as just knitting from the Provisional Cast on in terms of stability. I could do that, but I think the safest for me would be a three-needle bind off. There is going to be quite a bit of weight hanging off this strap. There will be icord edging but that has stretch as well... I might even need to do crochet stabilising as well. I just fear this top stretching and stretching throughout the day...
      Have a great weekend. :)

      Hi Gail. How funny - i had a really similar comment from Jan last week.
      I usually purchase yarn from my LYS Skein Sisters in Dulwich Hill. I have bought yarn from Sunspun in Victoria. Sometimes I buy online directly from the the dyer such as Skein in Coffs Harbour or Louie and Lola in Tasmania. I havent bought from the Yarn Box in Brisbane before but I plan to. They stock some Knitting for Olive yarns which i really like.
      I have recently bought from Knitting for Olive and Purl Soho and Wool and Co. overseas. I used to buy a lot from Jimmy Beans Wool and WEBS and Eat Sleep Knit but havent purchased from those stores in years.
      Online shopping can be challenging - the colours not always what you are expecting. That is the tricky part. I try to look online on ravelry for other people's photos first in natural lighting to see if i have the right idea in my head of what colour i am getting. Hope that helps. :)

    Oh my goodness, you have such a great variety of projects and I’m soooooo excited for your trip … I can’t wait to see more of your final sweater. I really want to make one. are the grains hard to do? I heard they are not fun, but they are so pretty. Another great episode Tash! ❤

      Thanks so much Taci. The grains are beautiful. Not hard to do. A bit fiddly and they definitely take time - but they really are worth it. x

    I've added Broadway to my list. It is so pretty and I like vests. I've got to finish my Field Sweater (which is fiddly) before I start another project (I'm on row 10). Your Field sweater is looking so nice, I like your choice of color and the grains are looking good.

    I’ve seen people pick up all the stitches like you did, knit a new ribbing collar, and leave the old one below the new. You could try that and take it out if you don’t like it.

      Brenda - what an idea! I never thought of that. How clever. I wonder if the old ribbing would distort the new - like if it would be hard to tell what it would be like with the old ribbing cut out. Hmmm - something to think about. You have really got me thinking there. Thank you!

      @BrendaBeckett-ob8wf ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mostlyknitting I don’t think it will be bad, especially since it’s such a small ribbing. You could knit it, then if it bothers you, cut the old out. I forget who I saw that did it, but it was very neat and tidy. And ingenious!

    Hi Tash, US knitter here. I recently found your channel and love how you share your knowledge with us! I have a request: when you share your sweater projects, could you tell us what size you are knitting of the pattern? It gives a reference that is very helpful. Your presentation is very calming. That, a cup of tea and my knitting project floats me to creative land! Thank you!

      Thanks so much. That is a great suggestion. I will definitely add that to the details I give for each project. Thanks for asking. :)

    Hi Tash 💕 oohhh wips are coming along. Your grain sweater, are you on interchangeable needles? If so would a smaller tip on the left (held firmly) help?
    Japan woohoo. My son went with school and speaks Japanese. He was there again last December so he was tour guide interpretating away. It will be so fun. I was there a long time ago and loved it.
    Love Teri Cole, I watch her sometimes when I knit 🤭 I had no boundaries. First marriage (20 years) I was only 19 and he was abusive in all areas 😣😢 didn’t know how to speak up and no divorce in our family. I didn’t understand abuse from someone who is supposed to love you, gaslighting, narcissism all the buzz words I didn’t know back then 🤬🤮It was rough, the stories I have, it’s like another person, also staff have walked over me over the years. Not anymore 💪🏻 It’s been a learning curve for me but ask my second husband (16 years together) and he would say oh boy she speaks up now, boundaries are lovingly in place 😂🤣 life certainly is an adventure!
    Happy dyeing, I hope it went well 🥰

      Hi Karen. I love how you think of all the needle tip swap-outs. I hadnt thought of that but actually, the trickier of the two grain collapsing is when the grain is on the cable needle so that is where the smaller cable needle comes in handy. the one that is on the left needle isnt so bad. But when i get to the large grains and I have to knit 5 sts together (10 strands of yarn) - oh boy - i might use it then!
      That is so cool that your son knows Japanese. I wonder if my son might get inspired. It will be interesting to see. I think that is one of the things i am most looking forward to - watching him discover a new place.
      I have to confess I havent dyed the skirt yet. Editing the video took forever - my phone didnt have enough storage and i had to delete photos and offload apps - such a pain.
      Oh Karen - thank you for sharing your awful experiences with an abusive husband. When you are caring and empathetic, it is beyond your comprehension that someone you love and trust could treat you so badly. It is so confusing. I am so glad you got out of that situation and got some boundaries and you are in a loving and supportive relationship now. That makes me so happy to hear.
      xx

      @@mostlyknitting my phone is an iPhone 7. I think it has some dinosaur poo on it it’s that old. So I know what you mean about running out of storage space and having to delete things 😬😳 I don’t update things until they break and this baby is hanging on well. My mum has had three phone upgrades ahead of me 🤭
      Maybe try a crochet hook collapsing all those stitches? I’m always trying to find ways to make things easier 🤣😂
      Have a great weekend 💕
