DC does a pretty good job of this in a lot of their movies and shows especially regarding Batman, for his unorthodox ways, and Superman, because of his sheer strength.
nycot, not really, he just has a lot of problems and was an asshole to people, that's why people don't treat him like superman nicbell nicastro -- those movies were lame, Superman is NOT a dark character. The Christopher Reeve movies were the definitive Superman movies. They need to make more non-dark Superman movies with the original theme.
One of the things I always loved about this movie was the sound it makes when Hancock flies around, it’s a very cool supersonic noise. You can hear the force of air moving around him and how fast he’s going and it must be terrifying to hear from a criminals perspective 😂
Fucking love this movie. Still feels like the most underappreciated superhero in superhero cinema. He's not an evil guy who could destroy earth, he's just a miserable person who doesn't feel loved, and when someone shows him they care, he goes out of his way to improve himself. It shows a very light-hearted aspect to humanity, while still showing the cruelty humanity can be capable of.
Well, yeah. Before this scene he didn’t care if he messed up the city just landing. For the first time, he’s trying to not crater everything in this scene.
ive been looking for this scene for the longest time. i saw the part where he sharpened that lampshade as a kid and never forgot it because it was so cool. so glad to have found it!
I love how terrifying the scene was when you get put in the perspective of the bad guys just hearing this ominous sound of this man who is bascially like a god to them flying around and just swooping in and taking out your associates in a blink of an eye without even being able to register what just happened. Also just the way he sharpened the disc with his nail 🤌 chef's kiss
The crazy part about this is that they fucking allowed the civvies to run around like headless chicken with 8 POUNDS OF C4 ON EACH OF THEM! The police didn't even stop them to think "Maybe they shouldn't be running around with things that look like dynamite around their bodies" I know it's a hollywood movie but damn lmao A little common sense would've been nice for that part But overall, Hancock is an amazing fucking movie, not in terms of realism but in terms of superhero feels and the emotions and whatnot that they convey and issues through Hancock like him being an alcoholic etc
Well, C-4 is pretty stable as far as explosives go. Requiring a blasting cap to detonate. Without the blasting cap, C-4 is so stable that you can burn or even shoot it, and it still won't explode.
@@JohnStormForge But normal civilians would not have that knowledge and it'd incite more panic if you just saw someone loaded with bombs running towards you But good to know that C-4 is that stable
@@JohnStormForge The assumption is that you see someone with what looks like explosives running towards a bigger crowd of people. You have no idea what will trigger the explosives. Or even if they are explosives. The smart thing to do is to stop them and call for the bomb squad to minimize the potential damage (and let them become responsible). Then again considering how close the crowd was to an active shootout, I don't think anyone was thinking about safety.
@@Chris_Sizemore yes, I quite agree. Especially given Hancock's bad reputation at that time. For all we know those people are suicide bombers looking to maximize their yield.
Curious: If Hancock had done the warp speed grab on detonator man, does anyone think the bombs would've still gone off given the range? Kinda like when Dredd threw MaMa out of the high rise!
The detonator is called a dead man switch, it can detonate the c4 ONLY if the finger is lifted off of the trigger. As you can see in the video Hancock says 'keep that hand on the trigger'.
IMHO the love story was a sidekick in the movie. And IMHO it ruined the change to the sequel. They could have slightly hinted about that storyline, but kept it to be a revelation in the second movie. The movie was refreshing in many ways, but it eventually as well ends up to a same logical problem that if you are all-powerful, all capable, then there is really nothing you couldn't do. But the same time they nicely made him not to care about such things and so on...
That scene when Hancock went out of the building with the detonator on his Hand. I just realized the hostages were still wearing the bombs and we're just running outside the building with it. Should they still not let them run until the detonator is actually secured or defused. 😂
Exactly. Though it’s a movie so understandable why they’re left on. In reality they’d be ordered to stay in the building while EOD guys safely remove the explosives from the hostages. They’d still be attached to the det cord too so the explosives would still be susceptible to going off.
Honestly Underrated. People look at Omni Man or Homelander as alternate version of Superman but forgetting that (At least to my knowledge) Hancock is the first. Even though he wasn't evil, he was a butt before the change.
While Omni-man and Homelander already existed. I do like Hancock as a Superman alternative because he isn't the same cookie cutter "Evil Superman" archetype. But rather a Superman who didn't care to be super
@@nicknitro86 its not wrong per se, but not everything has to have sequels. One offs allow for more creative expression, as you don't have to keep continuity of future films in mind. Hancock was definitely one of the best superhero movies and it's very a realistic take on if someone was really a superhero lol and obviously will Smith kills it
Even though i was more into metal than movies, i always thought it was a shame they didnt carry on a bit more with Mr. Smith in this role. I personally would have enjoyed to see another hancock movie. I mean right? Its funny in this scene, because whatever he has to do to stop the bad guy and save the people was not a result of his emotional reaction. It was ugly to hear that man call him that;🍪 hancock speaks his his mind but remains focussed on why he came, not allowing himself to become involved in the bad guys hate. Not only does this reaction make the antagonist even more disgusting, the hero seemed more like a man: someone who can be reliably in control. Counted on, you know? But yeah only 1 movie tho? Kind of a bummer. Well you know what they say, 'leave them wanting more' i guess...
Hancock probably could have been a timeless classic about a guy struggling to find purpose and meaning in life, where his place was in the world; but the writers for whatever reason needed to insert the trope of "Every super hero needs his kryptonite and origin story" and that made the second half of this film... extremely awkward, and pretty much derails everything setup in the first half of the movie. The second half of the movie probably should have been him making an actual friend, then could have played on the ridiculous nature of how said friend gets into situations that requires being rescued from; instead of what we got instead.
this movie is better than whatever you just described. "It made the 2nd half awkward" Yeah that was sort of the point of the origin story. We should have gotten more of that origin story since its by far the most interesting and unique "Kryponite" ive ever seen out of any superhero.
I think it really would’ve worked as a buddy film with Will Smith and Mark Wahlberg where Mark tries to save Hancock’s public image from Hancock being a self destructive ass hat while Hancock learns to embrace heroism and pick himself out of the gutter…it’s such a unique idea for a superhero that was squandered in the second half
I'm sure I'd have been concerned where all the stray bullets went. Hancock's response to the situation made perfect sense though - first things first, ya know. Good job.
1:43 be careful Hancock, anything said under duress can be thrown out in court. No but seriously, was almost the perfect movie until they brought in that weird love affair thing. I would have preferred if it was solely about him being a drunken homeless superhero who didn’t give a shit that got rehabbed into a proper hero. The villain could have been the same dude but he could have tested Hancock mentally and almost make him go back to his old habits. The climax would be Hancock finally defeating his demons and being a proper hero.
Well, it wasn't really an affair. They were together since the dawn of time. Their kind were whipped out except for them. They were destined to be together. She simply lost touch with him and she tried to move on. But it was inevitable they would be together again. Her new husband would have eventually died and left her dreadfully sad. She made a mistake marrying again, but her and Handcock getting together again is destiny
Watching everyone at 5:35 spread out with live C4 still strapped to their chests without anyone collecting and disarming it all like the city is just a minefield now 😂
Remember: The first act was Hancock going through life like a wrecking ball. This return to 'normal' superheroism, but with broad grounding is _really_ good for its time. It's a contemporary of Iron Man 1. When I saw those two movies in '08, I knew a new era for cinema had come.
Yeah. This belongs to the same category as typical action movies, it would be amazing to see a movie that is scientifically as realistic as possible. Meaning that bullets don't stop on the wooden doors or 1.5 mm thick metal sheet tables and so on. And people would actually be more logical and sensible... And if the suit is not made from something like alien diamond material etc, it would be as vulnerable to all damage etc.
Lmao so he walks through a hail of gunfire unharmed, but his clothes get more and more shredded up until he's wearing rags when he reaches the bad guy? Not a bad idea but it would be kind of hard to take the hero's one liners and monologues serious when his junk is showing through his bullet shredded pants...
@@stevepalpatine2828 We aren't saying the pants and his undies should peel off showing his bells and jingles. Just saying a little authenticity in terms of holes in the suit around chest would have worked a lot better.

I love this movie and how it handles loneliness and isolation. Plus, Hancock is invincible as a superhero. Really underrated film that definitely deserves a sequel
this movie is a good representation of how someone with super-human powers would be treated by society in real life
Man of steel XD
DC does a pretty good job of this in a lot of their movies and shows especially regarding Batman, for his unorthodox ways, and Superman, because of his sheer strength.
Too be fair, they treated Hancock the way they did because he was a jerk up until this point in the movie.
A comic book series would be pretty cool
nycot, not really, he just has a lot of problems and was an asshole to people, that's why people don't treat him like superman
nicbell nicastro -- those movies were lame, Superman is NOT a dark character.
Love how his entrance looks like he just discovered his powers lol
Well, yeah. Before this scene he didn’t care if he messed up the city just landing. For the first time, he’s trying to not crater everything in this scene.

Also just the way he sharpened the disc with his nail 🤌 chef's kiss
The crazy part about this is that they fucking allowed the civvies to run around like headless chicken with 8 POUNDS OF C4 ON EACH OF THEM!
The police didn't even stop them to think "Maybe they shouldn't be running around with things that look like dynamite around their bodies"
I know it's a hollywood movie but damn lmao
A little common sense would've been nice for that part
But overall, Hancock is an amazing fucking movie, not in terms of realism but in terms of superhero feels and the emotions and whatnot that they convey and issues through Hancock like him being an alcoholic etc
Yeah and the audience are there nearby like theres an oscars
Well, C-4 is pretty stable as far as explosives go. Requiring a blasting cap to detonate. Without the blasting cap, C-4 is so stable that you can burn or even shoot it, and it still won't explode.
@@JohnStormForge But normal civilians would not have that knowledge and it'd incite more panic if you just saw someone loaded with bombs running towards you
But good to know that C-4 is that stable
Too risky, I think. He doesn't know the range of the signal.
Could have also gone off if the detonator left signal range. So I can see why he didn’t do that either.

@@kennethscott6533 yeah leave it at a one hit wonder
Sadly Smith has stated he doesn't do sequels, except MIB.
Yeah but this movie was kinda trash .
That scene when Hancock went out of the building with the detonator on his Hand. I just realized the hostages were still wearing the bombs and we're just running outside the building with it. Should they still not let them run until the detonator is actually secured or defused. 😂
They were being led away by cops, and you could see EOD guys around. Probably guiding them to a controlled space to diffuse/remove the bombs
Exactly. Though it’s a movie so understandable why they’re left on.
In reality they’d be ordered to stay in the building while EOD guys safely remove the explosives from the hostages. They’d still be attached to the det cord too so the explosives would still be susceptible to going off.
Gta V NPC's😂
It's worth noting that Hancock might not have thought of that. He's kind of short-sighted for most of the movie.
Imagine his hand on the trigger slipped and the hostages explode as they ran out
the part where he tries not to be accused of harassment is hilarious
"Get me the **** outa here." Had me laughing.
So on brand for today's antics
Glad this movie is getting some recognition. Its literally blowing up again and its one of my favorite movies of all time.
Honestly Underrated. People look at Omni Man or Homelander as alternate version of Superman but forgetting that (At least to my knowledge) Hancock is the first. Even though he wasn't evil, he was a butt before the change.
Both Omni man and homelander were made prior to the movie Hancock. But good comparison regardless of the fact 👌
While Omni-man and Homelander already existed. I do like Hancock as a Superman alternative because he isn't the same cookie cutter "Evil Superman" archetype. But rather a Superman who didn't care to be super
Also,a very divergent origin story from the usual alien-baby staple.
Goku is the first alternate Superman tbh
@@SiloxYT ok? His origin story is parallel to Superman's, DBZ also is before all of the other comparisons made here (1980's)

It's a real shame that this didn't get any sequels, especially since there were initial plans for it to become a franchise.
Why do everything have to be a francise? It's good as it ia
What's wrong with this movie getting sequels?
@@nicknitro86 its not wrong per se, but not everything has to have sequels. One offs allow for more creative expression, as you don't have to keep continuity of future films in mind. As well as the fact that one offs can have a clean, cohesive story with a beginning and and ending, without having to set up a franchise through incomplete endings.

The real reason one punch man is great.
That is way too simplistic, that sounds way more awkward and cliche than what we got.
this movie is better than whatever you just described.

IKR .. not one hole in the suit from all that heavy firing :D
