I’ve seen many teachers that say I can’t play it slowly - we’ll probably teaching is not their vocation in life. Randy is a master of slow playing for us mortals.
Hey Randy Lately I’ve been studying Scotty and I have come up with the conclusion that is is one of most sophisticated inspontaneous sickest player ever with a couple of perhaps guitar habits that came in handy. As a guitar player it’s so hard trying to listen to the record because deciphering is craft is insane. The craziest part about this is that he made it look so easy. Boy was Elvis blessed to have him on his corner. Thanks for your video here I em learning from you sipping my coffee as well cheers....
Great as usual.. at last a much needed spiritual relief in this hot and desolate summer. Another gem from one of the best rockabilly guitar teachers you may possibly find. Always an honor and privilege to learn from Randy. And now off to purchase his latest course on Udemy. THANKS Randy. Keep on rocking.
Ian, thanks again for your nice comment. The ES-295 definitely has a special feel and sound. It's very light and still plays fantastic after all those years.
The biggest grin possible came on my face when I heard this solo played as accurate as it can get played by somebody else than Scotty. Thank you very much!!!

Life is too short. These guitars belong in the hands of people like you. I recommend you save your money and do whatever is required to get one for yourself.
If you're plugging into a Tweed Deluxe (without echo/effects) where would you set the TONE and VOLUME? I love everything you do. oh also assuming flats on that 295?
@@ducktailcat I mean, like your hand positioning? So, the thumb is on the 5th fret, index across the bottom 3 I think, etc I find that I mute a lot of the strings when I try copying how you were doing it at 9:58
@@ellishulstaert8332 Yes, that can be challenging at first. It was the same for me. It's hard to learn in a couple of days. As a workaround you could take the thumb away and play the open A string instead. Then with the rest of your fingers grab a F chord Index on 5 e and b, middle finger on 6 g and ring finger on 7 d
Scotty used a Ray Butz amp for "That's Alright Mama, and "Blue Moon over Kentucky" He said, "Sometimes we just turn it (tape heads) off." The switch to Fender happened well into the RCA days.
Thank you for your comments. I really appreciate them. However, it was actually the other way around. Scotty played a Fender Deluxe on the first Sun recordings, then purchased the Echosonic in 1955. Check out www.scottymoore.net/guitars.html for more info

Hey Randy, when did you join the Rockabilly 4 ? I remember the line up (and name?) of this band was inactive and not playing any gigs. Great news! I hope I will make it to a live gig or two.
Hey Randy another goodie! btw what thumb picks are you using...I'll try once more to get into them( for occasional use)...I learn using a flat pick and always hard to change later on !
YES! YES! YES! Oh God, YES! If you only knew how many times over the years I've seen tablature (some of it in commercial publications) and tutorials that get that second line of the solo wrong by simply repeating the first line all over again. But as this guy shows you, the second time through, Scotty just let Bill catch that open E string to start the phrase over again while he himself was still sliding that last double-stop down. It's a small thing for sure, but once you know how it was done, it becomes a really big thing.
Thank you for your comment. I saw many wrong transcriptions as well and even played it wrong myself for a long time, that's why I made this video. I know that some can appreciate it.
Please, Please add the solo to, "Devil in Disguise" to your Teaching Archive!!!!! The solo was done by Grady Martin - according to Elvis's recording logs. It's a killer solo, and no one does it right!!!
Poindexter left the Starlight Wranglers. In need of a new lead singer, Scotty called Elvis and after recording That's Alright Mama, the Starlight Wranglers popularity soared.
Those picking patterns are so strange , this song , mystery train , my baby left me, ive tried and tried but it always feels unnatural and sounds slightly wrong.he definately had a style that was his own
I think, Scotty evolved quite a bit from "That's Alright" till "Mystery Train". The picking patterns are getting more precise and technically advanced too.

The most accurate version of this solo that I have ever heard. Great job and thanks for sharing!!!
Lucas Speer Randy has some good stuff.
If it weren’t for Scotty & Bill, Elvis would’ve been the best looking truck driver in Memphis, no more.
Randy that sounded amazing... loved it

the way you can play it slow and clear for students is very good. "that's alright Randy"
For me! this guy is the finest picker ive seen. Great job Randy, love the 295 as well. Well presented and hugely helpful :)

Superb instructional video, just got me hooked in right from the first riff, love the slap back echo.
Thanks a lot for your comment. However,I must correct you on one point. There's no slap back echo on the guitar

Hi Derek, Volume would be pretty low on 1 or 2 for a clean sound. Tone probably between 7 and 9. It really depends on the guitar and the room.
Bei Dir stimmt einfach alles. Danke fürs Video.
Thank you, Randy!
top stuff mr rich

Any chance you could be talked into doing a tutorial for the solo in Elvis' version of Ready Teddy? :)
@@chadcollier1070 Yes, that's a good one. I wrote it on my list.
Randy, what is the delay pedal you use. There are so many out there, and not sure which one to go for. Thanks
Hi Alex, I don't use any delay pedal. I have a built in tape echo in my amp but I don't use it for That's Alright, because the original is also dry

what amp and pickups are you using
These are the original pick ups. I use my selfmade amp for almost all my lessons.

"Fantástico"
May not be a popular opinion but id say Move it on over by hank williams was one of the true first rockabilly/ rock and roll songs.
I wouldn't consider it rockabilly yet because you still have steel guitar and fiddle, but it's definitely one of the songs that lay the foundation
Is that a Gibson 175?
No, it's an ES295
well......posession is 9\10 of the law,so congratulations on your new guitar lol
Thx alot for sharing 🙏realy clear explanation
Need an Echo Amp.
Cngratulation!
Can you tell me what is the bpm
It's around 200bpm
i wish i could get my guitar to sound like that
Boy what I would give to get an original es 295 Gibson
I know exactly how you feel

I love this tune but its hard to follow that guitar, The inlay markings through me off.
Sorry about that. Normally, the inlays should help the orientation
