I know the glue sounds strange, but I worked for a company that did lot's of Stainless Steel work, and many components were glued, with a special bonding agent, and the result's were amazing, just as strong as being TIG Welded, I was surprised to see how good it worked.
Fantastic video! Thank you. Up until sometime in the 1950s every Colt and Smith & Wesson revolver was hand-fitted. Oddly, this video gave me a greater appreciation for a Shooting Master or a Registered Magnum. Both are the results of gun making experience, engineering, precision machine work, and hand fitting.

This is an exceptional showcasing of a truly exceptional example of British gun making and an absolute joy to watch. The scope and quality of your output is mindblowing and it is a privilege to be able to access it. All the very best to you for the festive season and all your production that lies ahead.
Just imagine a country that have available for sale 25 years old Rolls and Bentleys only, all the VW Bugs , Corolla , Austins are banned as a power grab.
Aeroplanes have been glued together for decades. We fly around in tbem and yet those crusty old engineers at other manufacturers are still using technologies from hundreds of years ago.
Simply because it’s worked well for hundreds of years and still does. If it ain’t broke……don’t fix it. Perhaps you can tell us how the “bonding” process stands up to 90 years of daylight on it, or maybe even 50 years of estuary mud? Nobody knows…..yet. Too late for me to find out but seems a good idea now, but in the future? Looking at your name on here, 59 Les Paul or a 2024 re-issue? 61 Strat or a custom shop relic made this year? Which suits you best? 😉👍
@Mr16Bore but we do know. As he said those structural adhesives have been used to glue airplane wings for more than 50 years. They're also used on spacecraft. One problem with ALL traditional shotguns is ribs detaching after use. It's a very common problem caused by using brazing or soft solder. Also corrosion from flux which isn't always cleaned off. These new generation adhesives are incredibly strong and are completely inert once they set. If it ain't broke doesn't make sense. Otherwise we'd still be flying in Sopwith Camels. Progress is inevitable. Fender strat. Every time.
Unbelievable, i was literally thinking Johnny should film this very video a few weeks ago, gallyon are down the road from me and despite their history and quality i can find very limited info about them anywhere. Excellent job guys well worth a watch

If the adhesion process is using a two part epoxy the mixing and proportions have to be absolutely spot on to get the required performance expected from the epoxy.
Clearly, with the advent of steel shot, we all now would like superior, modern metallurgy. And it's nice to see more thought given to assembly techniques. The resolution of the screen on which I'm viewing this video seems to show the monobloc joint and the wood-to-metal fit certainly doesn't appear to be as perfect as one expects. Compare that to something like a Woodward O/U of long ago and my bet is that the old gun would be close to perfection with steel seeming to flow into the wood.

Its a great video but I have to question the FMEA topic (Talking as someone who has Moderated P-FMEA's for 10 years). Its a fact that no FMEA's from anyone else have been studied. Why? Because a company will never hand these documents over to a competitor. Thats unless someone has been stealing documents? Even a customer of a supplier will likely only get to see a cover sheet with a breif summary. Gallyon/Cambridge precision will have next to zero quantitive quality data from other manufacturers. My guess is they have looked at what they think are the possible weak points with other manufactuers and tried to build on that. Possibly creating their own System/Design/Process FMEA's to have robust design / process(s). Its not good to try and use a lot as fluff to try and impress people. Been there, done it with many T shirts.
As they are so expensive I guess it's going to be tested by people rich enough to sue them should a gun fail. Not the best bunch to test a new product.....
The only way to establish if this Gallyon is truly the best you will have to first of all fund a one man expedition heading in the direction of true North, the only suitable individual would be Peter Mandelson. Once he's off you can now point the Gallyon true North.
A perazzi and krieghoff will last a lifetime, likewise lots of guns- most infact, so how long do you plan on living?? These companies over engineer to justify a price point, As for out perform- the person makes the gun hit targets and how can you improve on people shooting high 90s out of 100?
@MR12GAUGE i was simply comparing the price for such an engineered gun. Compared to those other brands. I agree to a point. That it's not the gun, but the shooter. But some "highly engineered" guns are more accurate. As far as barrel alignment and tolerances.
@@jameseray1979 once you get to a certain degree of mechanics with a shotgun- the more you pay doesn't give you mechanical advantage, yes budget guns such as say a boito or stoegor condor aren't taking you to podiums- reliability, regulation and triggers aren't good enough, but say a 686 is fitted to you, a dt11 isn't going to be breaking more targets for you, same as this gun, and other high end pieces, one pays what he is happy to pay, but the reality is once you are at a certain level of gun, paying 10x that price won't break more targets for you
Don't like the wood standing proud of the action and standing proud around the forearm that usually lends itself to cracking or a piece here or there being broke off I like flush to be honest looks better too
If you make something to nice men will buy it and never use it😂 , i never use my best bushcraft knife because it will slowly gain signs of wear & tear which i don't want .👍🏻
@tgsoutdoors yes but other manufacturers do lighter 12g game guns.i shoot game regularly and have found my clay gun.(the only one i could afford at the time) was quite a burden to carry on a rough shoot all day.may be different on a expensive shoot but but although i think they are a rip off anyway in my present circumstances i could easily afford the best gun.but my mate always says old farmer has his grandads gun and he kills everything.
Not even a side lock ! No assisted opening and no engraving. With those added features would probably push the cost towards 100k !! Very heavy for a game gun, really needs to be at least half a pound lighter in 12 bore.
WOW its nearly as good as a BROWNING!😂 Never hear so much bull, my Browning XSpro 32" is the best there is ( and the barrels a straight & open up well🤣)
I liked the video. But them saying that everything has to be hand fitted is a notion from 150 years ago. All that can be done with CNC, especially with something like the latest DMGMori equipment that can grind in the same spindle as milling. The woodworking can all be CNC'ed as well. I appreciate the handwork aspect of it but to say "a machine can't do this" is just bollocks/BS. If someone wants to buy the machine, I'll prove it for you...😃
I don’t think that’s quite correct. In watchmaking a good mechanical watch can be machine made, but if you want greatness it takes a watchmaker adjusting the fit and finish, something no machine can do yet. I’m a watchmaker.
@@AlecMacarthur What needs to be "adjusted" that could not be solved with higher quality machined parts? You're just adjusting for unacceptable variations in the component parts that you get now.
@ in the case of watches the number of parts that stack up tolerances make the assembly and adjustment the final step to high quality. Patek doesn’t spend 10s of millions on in-house watchmakers every year because they like spending money. For example, the relationship between the escape wheel, pallet fork and balance wheel relies on over 60 variables…Off the top of my head, there may be more…Machine adjusted watches can be very good, but excellence takes a trained person hands on.

Compared... 15k for a gun of this stature and quality isn't bad. And I'd bet it will outlast and out perform a krieghoff or perazzi.
A perazzi and krieghoff will last a lifetime, likewise lots of guns- most infact, so how long do you plan on living?? These companies over engineer to justify a price point,
As for out perform- the person makes the gun hit targets and how can you improve on people shooting high 90s out of 100?
@MR12GAUGE then why buy anything that costs over 1k then? If it's the Indian and not the arrow.
@MR12GAUGE i was simply comparing the price for such an engineered gun. Compared to those other brands. I agree to a point. That it's not the gun, but the shooter. But some "highly engineered" guns are more accurate. As far as barrel alignment and tolerances.
@@jameseray1979 once you get to a certain degree of mechanics with a shotgun- the more you pay doesn't give you mechanical advantage, yes budget guns such as say a boito or stoegor condor aren't taking you to podiums- reliability, regulation and triggers aren't good enough, but say a 686 is fitted to you, a dt11 isn't going to be breaking more targets for you, same as this gun, and other high end pieces, one pays what he is happy to pay, but the reality is once you are at a certain level of gun, paying 10x that price won't break more targets for you
He said 50 I in the video not 15
Don't like the wood standing proud of the action and standing proud around the forearm that usually lends itself to cracking or a piece here or there being broke off I like flush to be honest looks better too
20 is the girls gun
Girls/gentleman
But these days, no British may buy it.
So... Just a matter of time before a Turkish copy at a price 99% of shooters can afford....
For the price better be perfect and come with a blow
Their employees need to stop using nonstop abbreviations for materials and parts..
If you make something to nice men will buy it and never use it😂 , i never use my best bushcraft knife because it will slowly gain signs of wear & tear which i don't want .👍🏻
eight pound game gun? the longthorne was the best gun in the world, then the beretta? carrying a clay weight gun round all day defeats the object.
One presumes that’s why they have made 20b and 16b guns, for those who want a lighter gun?
WOW its nearly as good as a BROWNING!😂 Never hear so much bull, my Browning XSpro 32" is the best there is ( and the barrels a straight & open up well🤣)
@@Jolly56Roger They said the same about Long bows !! 🥴😉
