I am mixed Cherokee/Shawnee and enrolled Eastern Shawnee of Oklahoma. I know we prefer to be called by our tribe if you know it, but I hear Indian thrown around, Native, indigenous. People put to much weight in a word. If tou come at me respectful I will do the same I will never let a word hurt me, it all about approaching with a good heart or respect.

Thank you for uploading this. I am writing a research paper using this museum as a case study and I am unable to visit the museum in person.

From the loud voices in the museum, you're the only one whispering and observing decorum.🤔

You are American Indian lol we are both native Americans you are just first people. What makes you native is being born on the land. I love American Indian culture it’s a great part of American history.

My friend told me the same. She was like "Indians are from India, please call us Native Americans"... I haven't called y'all "Indians" since then. ❤🤗

@@queencerseilannister3519 why when it’s the incorrect term. I’m native to this land I was born here. The correct term is American Indian. Native means born on the land that’s it lol 😂we are all Americans 🇺🇸

The crimes against the native communities were some of the worst in history and till this day not enough has been done to make it better.
I understand native Americans prefer to be named that way or by their tribes name, but a lot don’t like american indian and it’s very understandable why.
One thing I don’t get is why “Americans” call african americans even if they and their previous generations were born in the country just because some generation ago they came from Africa, same for asians.
If this is what they want, then white americans should be called european americans since some generation came from that continent because they are not native Americans.
Or they decide that everybody born in the country is american and then there is native americans the native people of the land or everybody but including european americans are called by their ancestry to the original continent they came from.
What doesn’t make sense to me is how european descents aka white skin feel more entitled, their arrival to the future United States isn’t that apart in terms of time in the first place.
