Wow, so both the public and the jury let down Iceland.

+Soojin Kang Bad taste? Iceland had bad taste in sending a shitty song. Both jury and televote can't be wrong, face it. I had to mute the song when the instrumental chorus started.

- Yes, they can. On the other hand,
1. the televote only represents the distribution of the top-1 preference of the voters. It shows nothing about their preferred ranking.
What we actually know is that outside Iceland, few people spent a euro or more to vote for Iceland representative song. It only means that the rest of the voters had a more preferable song in which spend their money;
2. the jury of many of the countries is rigged. Many of its members don't rank the songs solely according to their artistic value. Instead, political considerations are given a prominent place.
This is hardly news. It has always happened with the country-based jury.
I must say that I was shocked to see Estonia last. It's still my favourite song of this year and I'm not just saying this because I love the song, it's because I know a lot of people liked the song (well people I talk to anyways haha). Like when it didn't qualify I was sad but I wasn't really surprised but I really didn't expect last place overall... And poor Moldova too!
Iceland is another big surprise.
I know right, Jüri's song was my favourite as well. The jury didn't really appreciate the fact that he was nervous :(. He is young, and young people tend to be awkward potatos when they are supposed not to be so. Poor boy, I'm so sad :((
But last place? Wtf? Did they preferred Switzerland, San Marino, Montenegro and many other countries over Estonia? What? Why? I understand the fact that his nervousness is penalised, but his song was soooo good ! Are they supposed to rate the song more or the act? How underrated and robbed :(((
I still think Jüri is a wonderful person :'(.
Austria came second? Never would expect that, that's really great!
How was Greta's staging overdone? It was great. I think Chris is just trying to justify something that can't because it looked great on my screen.
Oh, Padraig is smiling again! :) He seemed so exhausted in the end in Stockholm.
And I can also hardly believe that Estonia finished dead last, both semis put together (!), even though I also thought Juri seemed pretty nervous on stage..
I am from Australia and I thought that Iceland's performance was The Bomb! Why she came behind San Marino and Montenegro, I do not know...

I was replaying to geminix claim about your prejudice against small countries. Iceland is even smaller in population than Montenegro, so in theory it should be also a target of such prejudice.

+Czarina Svetlana Sy betrayed? There was too much hype about a shitty song. For me it was so clear she wouldn't qualify I wonder why people hyped her so much.
For Malta, they select their entries via international jurys with HoDs in it. It won't be a surprise if some HoDs and broadcasters pushed their juries to vote for Malta. And this current tendancy for Malta (huge with jury/low in televote) exists since years.
+TVESCFAN Apart from the fact that the Maltese song is jury friendly and radio friendly, I think people miss the point that you can't compare the televote for Malta to the jury points. Malta is always underrated by televoters :( . Do you think they just deserved 16 points in the final? Comes to show you how harsh televoting is to Malta.
+doggiemania 127 "Malta is always underrated by televoters" : Or overrated by the juries (they're always in the top 5 of jury in the semi every year). But I'm agree with you, it deserves a bit more in the televoting (even if the staging was a bit weird, I always like the song).
And by the way, I voted (1 vote) for Malta in the semi-final but France didn't give her points in televoting in the semi final or the final.

I can understand 2013 / 2014 as Malta found the niche. I am not going to tell you that that is good or bad. But it is a fact. Both entries were not the favourite with Maltese public but the juries picked them. In 2015 the song was not that highly voted by juries. It was joined 5th with Slovenia and another country and I think that it was solid. 2016 deserved that placing. The song was accessible, radio friendly and modern. I am obviously biased but I am in favor of underrated countries making it. I am over the moon that Bulgaria managed to get that 4th place and in my honest opinion it would have been the best winner. I also voted for Israel another underrated country by the televoters :(
I agree with you about the staging of Malta 2016. I think it lacked something. Studio version was just outstanding. But the song is rather difficult to stage at least for my unimaginative mind :P haha.
Thank you for voting for Malta, irrespective of the vote not counting to get points. I really appreciate. It shows a lot, it shows that some fans actually vote for the song and not for the country. Thank you so much.
P.S. glad France managed to get in the top 10 with a very respectable placing especially following how underrated you were last year.

For 2013, I have nothing to say because both juries and televoting liked the song (9th in both rankings). For 2014, I liked the song a lot, and I found it a bit underrated.
Last year, Warrior was in my top 10 but the staging wasn't original (Conchita's flames one year after).
This year, I think the 12th (?) place for Malta is good, not too high, not too low, the song was good but both the vocals and staging (I find the thing with Ira's head at the begginning really weird) wasn't in the best this year.
I am really happy for Bulgaria's result too. Poli deserved it and she can be a good winner (at least with her, no dramas compared to Jamala's victory (it would be the same if Sergey or Dami won). Israel was a bit underrated in the finals but it's definitely a song for juries (like Czech Republic).

The fact that Bosnia ALMOST got through makes it even sadder for me cause Ljubav Je is still my favorite song of the year.. they were so close.
I thought Montenegro's staging was awesome! I hates the song but after the performance it grew on me a lot! The song fits right at home with that marvellous staging and the cameraworks were amazing. Well I guess you can only appreciate that type of music if you're a rock music fan.
Ok - Malta won the jury vote because jury's appreciate good songs! The televote doesn't respect Malta as can be seen in the final (16 points)

Am I the only one who found it weird that Russia somehow came 2nd in the jury votes of the semi-final, but then when the final actually hit, more than half of the countries gave either a 0 or just a very low score compared to the rest of Europe of course...
It's just weird how they changed their minds and thoughts of Sergey like that so quickly...

I just thought it was really weird that they might've given Russia the low score at the final specifically bc they just didn't want Russia to win.. Whether it's bc of politics or something else I don't know and don't care bc that is the definition of unfair....

+İrem Meri Just look at his performance again. It was so weird and creepy. Vocally, it was one of his worst performances so far. And then he always did this weird hand gesture a thousand times. And he tried so hard to look sexy. It was so unpleasant to watch.

I like the song from Iceland, but I have been put off by the staging since the first time I saw it.
"If countries send a turd, diaspora and neighbours will abandon it."
Can someone please frame that sentence in gold and send it to the German television channels ARD and NDR? 😄 Because they still seem to think we "don't have friends in Europe" rather than "we just sent a crappy song".

While I was watching this video I waited for your opinion about Estonia!
Well, I am still really shocked about the Estonian result but, to be honest, the stage performance of Jüri was crap. He did it on Eesti Laul much better! And I thought that the jury would at least evaluate this song better than Montenegro or Moldova. I expected that the jury are more focused on the arrangement, lyrics and sound of the song, not on the stage performance. The jury voting of Estonia is really disappointing imo. The song is actually well arranged with the piano, strings and e-guitar. And the Moldavian song is just a boring electro-pop song.

Such a shame about Iceland, loved the song, love her act live and her backing group fantastic but and a BIG but her visuals on stage were just over the top, almost to the point of being off putting on the screen. Keep it simple next time Iceland.

If you're trying to imply that there was some foul play from the Maltese delegation to win the jury vote, would you think that a small, sponsor-funded delegation would lobby for votes when competing with rich no-limit government funded delegations such as Russia or Armenia?

+Aine Doc Whilst Estonia was also my favorite, I gotta say, the coreographers and producers of the staging really let Jüri down. The sleek staging from Eesti Laul with a few changes would have been 5 times better than the one they came up with from scratch. Whoever told him to make those weird hand gestures and creepy faces should be fired because It probably alienated to voters and jury alot.
