  • An Australian man's voice is quietly whispering as he opens his Chess Set and describes each chess piece. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR). The moves that each chess piece can make are all discussed in a quiet whisper. The chess pieces include castles, knights, bishops, queen, king and the pawns and are shown on a magnetic chess board.
    This video uses the Blue Yeti microphone for the audio. The video portion is recorded on a Olympus Stylus camera.

    I love how the title and description are in third person. An American man leaves a comment on the Aussie's wonderful video, commending him for another job well done #UpUpCronulla

      A french person replies to a comment, under the video of an Australian ASMR artist, to tell the american commentator his comment is funny.

      Thanks, I'm not sure why I started doing "third person" comments...

      A British man is replying to a French person's reply to an American man's comment on an Australian man's video, to say that he too finds the discussion humorous as has always been quietly baffled and amused by the third-person, present perfect tense descriptions too, but he wishes to tell the Australian man to keep up the great work regardless.

    I find it interesting how the words for the chessmen are different in English compared to German. In German we call pawns "peasants" (Bauer), the knight is the "jumper" (Springer), the rook is the "tower" (Turm), the bishop is the "runner" (Läufer) and the queen is the "lady" (Dame). Only king is the same (König). I wonder why some chessmen differ in name quite drastically, e.g. bishop and runner.

    • @AussieAsmrMan
      @AussieAsmrMan  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is interesting! I wonder if chess pieces are called something different again in other languages?

    • @TheAndyLP24
      @TheAndyLP24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So... since I got exams coming up, I really needed to procrastinate and I looked it up in French and Spanish, because those are the only other languages I know: the pawns are "pions" in French and "peones" in Spanish, both means essentially pawns; the knight is "cavalier" (horseman) in French and "caballo" (horse) in Spanish, the bishop is "fou" (the crazy one) in French and "alfil" (I didn't find another translation here, apparently alfil only means bishop in terms of chess) in Spanish; the rook is "tour" in French and "torre" in Spanish, both mean tower; the queen is "dame" in French and "dama" in Spanish, both mean lady; the king is "roi" in French and "rey" in Spanish, both mean king.
      I find it funny how the French and Spanish names are more similar to the German ones than to the English ones... I hope you found this as weirdly interesting as me lol

      ΔΓΚ Andy The reason French and Spanish are so similar is because they both derive from Latin very closely, Italian is the same. Languages like the ones mentioned are known as the "Romance Languages". They are basically a close knit family of languages so theyre all very very similar. Something very interesting about language families is actually how English borrows from latin with words but germanic languages with rules (i have no idea why, if youre interested and find out be sure to come back and tell me :) )

    • @TheAndyLP24
      @TheAndyLP24 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jamison Fawkes thanks for telling me but having studied Spanish and French for over 10 years now, I've already known that.
      Btw, the reason why English structure is more Germanic is that the peoples that lived on the British isles before William of Normandy conquered them derived from what is now Denmark, northern Germany and the Netherlands, thus speaking Germanic languages. When the French came, the common people adopted French words since they made the speaker appear to be in a higher social class. The basic language structure stayed the same though (almost like a pdigin i would even say), so many words of daily life (then) in English are of Germanic origin. This can be especially seen with animals and their meats: while the animals the farmers (common people) kept have names of Germanic origin (pig aka swin, cow, sheep) the meat names derive from French (porc -> pork, bœuf -> beef, mutton -> mutton)
