Something I truly love about this series is its humanisation of its titular monster. It's not just a suit, there's a man in there, and it shows. There's a motivation, a central conflict, and a set of characteristics that dictates what it does. The original Godzilla (1954-2004) suits were made with rubber, concrete, metallic alloys to make the suit look realistic and the suit was over 100 lds or less and the suit got really hot fast, so recording it took a while to do. And the original Godzilla footage of him moving was speed up to make him look like we was walking (when in reality it was extremely difficult to move in the suit. When TOHO first made their movie.)

Godzilla minus one was an absolute work of art, it's a war movie repackaged as a Godzilla movie and explores the tragedy of it. I think we don’t recognize enough just how passionate Mat is about their merch and apparel. Like yes it’s his job to convince us to buy it, but so many creators don’t seem to care nearly as much about the things they make and sell as he does. It’s just really cool to see that the same passion he brings to content goes into everything else. It’s one of the reasons I’ve continued to stick with the Theorist content over the years even though I’m just a casual viewer who often lacks the smarts for the hardcore theory stuff 😅 ❤❤❤❤
Learned something interesting from a series called Design Delve recently talking about how sounds can cause fear. As someone who normally is frightened by horror often I find it hard to engage with them. However, as it turns out a lot of them use low to high range frequencies to illicit a discomfort and then an impact on that discomfort or otherwise. I heard Mat talking about Led Zeppelin and pulled up the song he is referencing (Immigrant Song, for those that don't know) and as it turns out if you play that over the moments where low frequency discomfort is happening it can make you feel way more comfortable as it overrides the discomfort its trying to create for you mentally. TL;DR I play Led Zeppelin now to silence the horror demons and laugh in their faces
This is why I like this Analog horror. It is kinda political and historical, I watched the whole videos so far and instead of being scared I was actually having fun trying to find out everything. And especially watching this analog horror after studying about politics, history and geography it was very interesting for me. And amongst the other analog horrors it stands more realistic in front of my eyes. I want to thank "Unknowingly" for making this beatiful masterpiece.
Here’s my theory after watching all of this. At the beginning the man in the suit specifically chose to apply as the actor for Godzilla because of the overall message of the movie about radiation, then the incident happened because of the pill and TOHO decided to keep him. After figuring out what to do next after the instant boom of the movie, TOHO decided to make more films with Gojira in turn making more monsters/suits to fight him. After the Anguirus incident, TOHO was semi aware about Gojira’s possible infective blood bite (what happened to Anguirus) , TOHO try and contain him. And for Gojira’s behavior, he’s always more cooperative when there’s another “suit” on the set shown in the Mothra incident, once he figured out that Mothra was a puppet he immediately went on a rampage mauled the pupa suit actor to death and infecting her into her mutated chrysalis form, and meanwhile Gojira escaped into the forest and when about to be captured he spat out a stream of his own blood forming a small pool. After all this I think TOHO is trying to make more monsters out of Gojira’s blood back in the 1900s, TOHO started to thrive on the monster movies and Gojira started turning monsters/suits like him as his family (deceased daughter) with his own radioactive blood.
i think the fundamental difference between we have a light and our camera has night vision, is that the first one feels like "we will guide him out" and the second feels like "we will take him out"
In my opinion Godzilla Minus One was a great narrative, a great tribute to OG Godzilla and also just a fun movie with really well picked action scenes. It’s not just basically dumb fun like the American films, it’s a deep story with strong humans and you really REALLY don’t want them to die. It’s just a great modern rendition of Godzilla with amazing CG but finally it’s more of a story where it’s humans against this huge unbeatable beast that breaks things.
I mostly agree with you here, though I kinda disagree with your view on the American films. I don't think the Monsterverse is quite as shallow as people say it is.
49:18, that image is unsettling. It’s not just the amount of teeth he has now but how wide he can open his jaw that bothers me. It kind of reminds me of a Tasmanian Tiger opening its mouth. To think a normal human with cheeks could become that seems horribly uncomfortable. Elisa’s talk about the donut stuff reminded me of a Welcome Home comic on Pinterest where Frank talked about a caterpillar turning into sludge in the cocoon and slowly turning into a butterfly. Though in this case, it’s not a butterfly and hopefully it kinda spared his nervous system from feeling the entire process.
Godzilla Minus One is easily movie of the year for me, and one of the best godzilla movies to date. It feels like a modern rendition of the original. Its also the first Japanese godzilla movie to see widespread viewings in America. I hope to hear Mat's thought on it
Unknowingly is the most innovative analog horror creator I've ever seen, after this series he's making a Ghostbusters series, and potentially a Jaws analog horror. I truly cannot wait
I think the part where they told us they have lost everything wasn't a self-dialogue but a conversation between the suit and the man. This series is interesting and i can't wait to see more reaction videos on this.
the audio theyre trying to denoise is definitely japanese, he starts out by saing what sounds like " watashi wa kaibutsu arimasen" which means "i am not a monster" there is more, but i cannot hear more
Godzilla Minus One is by far the best Godzilla film since the original and it is arguably one of the best movies of the year. The human drama, the action, the terror that is Godzilla is shown as this force of nature with the grounded grief and heavy emotion burdening the main character. It is quite literally…a feat and deserves all accolades
I think the Japanese in the second video’s description was the man in the Angurius suit, the suit was talking to him, not the man in the suit. I think this because his voice was so frantic, and because it was the description of the second video. I also believe that the man in the suit was already mutated before he got to the studio to film, because the process might be more immediate, like with Angurius. That’s my theory. Can’t wait to see yours!
Saw Godzilla Minus One, and I don't think I've ever rooted for the humans in a Godzilla film more than in this one. You just want to give all of the central characters a hug from all the stuff they've gone through. I wanted them to win for once. It deserves all of the praise that is being thrown it's way.
Saw Minus One three times already, and contemplating on a fourth in the theaters. As a life-long Godzilla fan, this is without a doubt a top-tier kaiju movie, and just a great film in general. After some thought, it's now my favorite G-movie (just a hair-width above Shin Godzilla, which has been my favorite since that was released). This movie just gets Godzilla as a metaphor right. Honestly though, the people we follow are truly the stars. You actually feel for them - you want them to make it out okay, share their hopes when it seems they're on the upswing and their dread when their world is threatened. Even if you aren't a Godzilla fan, this film is just fantastic. It does so many things right. A triumph for sure!
Minus One is easily my favorite Godzilla movie and personally my favorite movie ever. I couldn't stop thinking about it after i saw in theaters and I'm going back for another viewing this weekend! I highly recommend watching in theaters while you can.

The thump patterns i got i seperated groups by 5 seconds (so if there was more than 5 seconds in between a thump i started a new group) In order: 5,3,2,1,2,2,1,1,1,1,3,2,5,12, and then the audio messes up as the pictures are shown, multiple bumps can be heard throughout this section but none that im completely confident in (i counted 11 taotle when it stops but that may not be accurate.) ALSO IN BETWEEN THE SECOND AND THIRD PHOTO ISTG ON .25 I HEARD A VOICE SAY SOMETHING AND I DONT KNOW IF IM GOING INSANE OR NOT. Ill do some more diging (voice at around 3:10 in the depiction of growth video)
As some pointed out in the comment section of the specific video, Oppenheimer’s iconic quote is heard, and led people to believe his full speech was recited barring the last line. That one quote is so memorable that I also heard it immediately, but maybe you need to see the speech right in front of you to match it to the distorted audio. Point taken, it makes obvious sense that it shows up here, and it’s awesome to see it make its appearance. Also, yes the beat after it is great as well as others stated, and for other parts as well :)
I love how deep this video series actually is. Also, amazing merch, only MatPat can be out of breath as he shows everything new off because he loves it just that much.
hearing Ash say "oh my god" under their breath every time Matt says something fnaf is so funny to me (51:00 is the only time stamp I caught but it happens like two other times in this video and the last lmao)
To clarify a comment that Mat read, an Onryo is a Japanese spirit that is best described as a vengeful spirit. In particular, they are associated with being the cause of misfortune and disasters when particularly strong ones are angered. It takes a lot for someone to linger as an Onryo upon death, a lot of anger at least. There's a Japanese play that is similar to Macbeth in that it's considered to be cursed, while I don't know how common it actually is there are stories about actors and directors going to visit the grave of a main character in it to ask their spirit for permission since they are said to be an Onryo in folklore. Admittedly, I'm not an expert by any means and this is half remembered. Take my words with a healthy dose of salt but I think it's a good link to draw at least thematically. The Man in the Suit definitely sounds angry enough that he could be an Onryo, though it may not necessarily be the intention of the author
i don’t usually watch your analog horror videos and i never consume godzilla content so i never thought id find myself excited to see part two of man in the suit 😭 its so interesting
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy." - Ishirō Honda, one of the creators of Godzilla
I really appreciate when Matt can make the scary scenes in these Analog horror series be lighthearted or funny. i struggle to watch them on my own but watching Matt and Ash watch these makes this genere that i love be more accessible to me
I know it's such a small thing but that transition at around 6:41 was so cool. Really well timed and great job on matching up the shots. Just speaks volumes of the skills of the editors.
The audio in this series is super effective. I'm not particularly scared of it, but it gives me serious chills and makes my eyes inventorially water without being painful at multiple points which I can't think of any other audio doing to me
@@zoesworldgaming321 Yep, It's because I lived in Japan for the first 6 years of my life. My father is also an avid fan of Godzilla, so he had many Godzilla figures. My personal favorite is Mothra. I just think the larva form is very cute. And Mothra herself is quite a beautiful design. It was apparently also created to appeal to a female audience.
@GTLive I'd like to point out that the episode titled "Suit Trial" is probably a reference to an earlier Godzilla analog horror series called "The Suitmation Trials"
the song in the audio cue video is “Honto Ni So Nara” which was a popular song that was released a year AFTER Hiroshima was bombed,so I’m assuming that goji has some humanity left in him and maybe some kind of emotional connection to the song (maybe his daughter or wife liked her songs?) since that seemed to be the only audio cue that he responded to.
He finally learns that he overthinks on alot of things and does work that he doesnt need to! Huzzah! But seriously, this is a really good story Unknowingly is doing. I like it. It kind of reminds me of the Mandela Catalogue too.
when matpat use the audio editor I actually hear watashi wa and then I remember the google translate at the beginning of the video and when Matpat discovers that I'm just laughing
I'm not sure why but most analog horror doesn't scare me, but this does, I think the body being expanded really makes me scared, the way a person could be in a "monster suit" becoming the "monster"
I think the reason there's talking in the background during the interview is because the woman is originally talking in Japanese, so someone is translating for her.
One of my friends introduced this to me and my first though when I watched the original series was "oh so this is kinda like getting spring locked, this isn't gonna be scary." Yea I was wrong
i think this analog horror series is gaining traction a good point in time. it's reminding everyone about how horrid and saddening genocide is, at a time where Palestine is facing mass genocide left and right. It's shining a light on the atrocity that is genocide and showing that it's really never acceptable, all coming at a time where it may need to be heard the most.

I watched it on an early screening on December 1st, as it will only officially release in my country Decemebr 14th, and I had a blast!
TL;DR I play Led Zeppelin now to silence the horror demons and laugh in their faces
matt’s godzilla scream is truly one for one 💀💀
Whoever is editing these more recent gt not live vids is so awesome for the small subtle edits. Thank you!
LETS GOOOO FINALLY THIS SERIES GETS SOME THEORY TIME! 🦅‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
YEAHHHH 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸‼️‼️‼️‼️
he already did another video on it so yay!
YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS
🧚🏻🧚🏻🧚🏻
Nice pfp btw
i think the fundamental difference between we have a light and our camera has night vision, is that the first one feels like "we will guide him out" and the second feels like "we will take him out"
In my opinion Godzilla Minus One was a great narrative, a great tribute to OG Godzilla and also just a fun movie with really well picked action scenes.
This analog series is amazing!! Probably the most interesting take on Godzilla
Matpat hears vague English words in distorted Japanese... It clearly must be a hidden English sentence!
What??? :( There have been folks that hate you doing theories? What the heck? I'm sorry that happened :( We love your theories.
I think the part where they told us they have lost everything wasn't a self-dialogue but a conversation between the suit and the man. This series is interesting and i can't wait to see more reaction videos on this.
the audio theyre trying to denoise is definitely japanese, he starts out by saing what sounds like " watashi wa kaibutsu arimasen" which means "i am not a monster"
there is more, but i cannot hear more
welp, turns out the audio was in the desription.
5:25 MatPat is accepting the clashing fashion of Dadhood. Can't wait to see more :3
Saw Minus One three times already, and contemplating on a fourth in the theaters.
38:35 is what the dentist sees when I lay down on the chair
I am so hyped for more Godzilla , I hope he gets more main channel videos. Keep up the amazing work guys and PLEASE give us Ben 10 for his 19th anniversary.
so happy to see matpat covering this series! i'm hoping that after he finishes TMITS, he continues watching the Monument Mythos series since alex (mister manticore) has finished the main series and is now doing a modern day spin off series! hope the gtlive team sees this and brings the monument mythos series back onto the channel for not-live theorizing lol
Just wanted to say I've had a pretty brutal week at work, finally got home to rest and got a notification for this video. Thanks for making my evening guys!
Hope ur weekend is good
Love the promotion of the Northern Lights collection!! You're just getting apparel out there for general wear! I'm definitely picking up the sweater and the blazer! They look amazing! Glad you are going the direction you are :D
Also this analog horror is such a banger.
You know it’s going to be good when they bust out the audio/image editor
The thump patterns i got i seperated groups by 5 seconds (so if there was more than 5 seconds in between a thump i started a new group)
In order: 5,3,2,1,2,2,1,1,1,1,3,2,5,12, and then the audio messes up as the pictures are shown, multiple bumps can be heard throughout this section but none that im completely confident in (i counted 11 taotle when it stops but that may not be accurate.) ALSO IN BETWEEN THE SECOND AND THIRD PHOTO ISTG ON .25 I HEARD A VOICE SAY SOMETHING AND I DONT KNOW IF IM GOING INSANE OR NOT.
I'd love to see Matt and Ash react to Greylock. If ever there was a series ripe for theorizing...
What's it about
?
@@Stelllar02 it's an excellent analog horror series that doesn't give away its premise easily.
"Man flavored donut" was not the intro I was expecting, but it was certainly the into I needed.
I love how Matpat thought the voice was speaking english even tho its clearly japanese
hearing Ash say "oh my god" under their breath every time Matt says something fnaf is so funny to me (51:00 is the only time stamp I caught but it happens like two other times in this video and the last lmao)
They also don't leave ghost orbs
i don’t usually watch your analog horror videos and i never consume godzilla content so i never thought id find myself excited to see part two of man in the suit 😭 its so interesting
"Monsters are tragic beings. They are born too tall, too strong, too heavy. They are not evil by choice. That is their tragedy." - Ishirō Honda, one of the creators of Godzilla
I really appreciate when Matt can make the scary scenes in these Analog horror series be lighthearted or funny.
i struggle to watch them on my own but watching Matt and Ash watch these makes this genere that i love be more accessible to me
Mat: “aaAAaah”
What I can’t unhear: 🦅🦅🦅
I know it's such a small thing but that transition at around 6:41 was so cool. Really well timed and great job on matching up the shots. Just speaks volumes of the skills of the editors.
The audio is in Japanese, MatPat! I think it's what's written in the video description
The audio in this series is super effective. I'm not particularly scared of it, but it gives me serious chills and makes my eyes inventorially water without being painful at multiple points which I can't think of any other audio doing to me
If there's Godzilla, I'll be there. Even if it's analog horror.
big scary monster = i am there
@@zoesworldgaming321 Yep, It's because I lived in Japan for the first 6 years of my life. My father is also an avid fan of Godzilla, so he had many Godzilla figures.
My personal favorite is Mothra. I just think the larva form is very cute. And Mothra herself is quite a beautiful design.
It was apparently also created to appeal to a female audience.
@@liminamoto312 nice, i like mothra too!
Man in the Suit: "Watashi wa"
Matpat: "That sounds like English"
Not Mat trying to decode the japanese dialogue audio while listening for english words. He needs to watch more anime lol.
I think that “it’s ok our cameras have nightvison” means that even thought he took the light we can handle it or we will continue our work
As an anime watcher I can tell that the sound that Matthew pathew was tryna decode is Japanese solely because the word watashiwa
He finally learns that he overthinks on alot of things and does work that he doesnt need to! Huzzah!
But seriously, this is a really good story Unknowingly is doing. I like it. It kind of reminds me of the Mandela Catalogue too.
Okay Mr nux
when matpat use the audio editor I actually hear watashi wa and then I remember the google translate at the beginning of the video and when Matpat discovers that I'm just laughing
40:30 It looks kind of like bloodstains on the camera lens too
Great video as always
Bro watched in 1 minute
Bro watching at 10x speed
Ash's whispered oh my gods had me absolutely rolling😂
I love how both Matpat and 8BitRyan danced to the exact same clip in the audio response section haha
MatPat: "It sounds English"
It: very clearly sounds like "私は怪物でわありません"
I'm not sure why but most analog horror doesn't scare me, but this does, I think the body being expanded really makes me scared, the way a person could be in a "monster suit" becoming the "monster"
Me: "This Japanese... bro"
Mat: "NO IT CODE!!"
I think the reason there's talking in the background during the interview is because the woman is originally talking in Japanese, so someone is translating for her.
That was a cool cut. Great edit with mat walking off, one foot steps out, and then an edit as he's stepping back in on screen so cool 😎
One of my friends introduced this to me and my first though when I watched the original series was "oh so this is kinda like getting spring locked, this isn't gonna be scary."
Yea I was wrong
i think this analog horror series is gaining traction a good point in time. it's reminding everyone about how horrid and saddening genocide is, at a time where Palestine is facing mass genocide left and right. It's shining a light on the atrocity that is genocide and showing that it's really never acceptable, all coming at a time where it may need to be heard the most.
I felt that frustration in my bones. Poor MatPat, poor Ash.
It’s crazy how long it takes for him to realise the voice line is in Japanese
I like how matpat is just feels like “why does everything come back to fnaf 😭” especially in the audio testing 😅
Godzilla Minus One is INCREDIBLE. It has an incredible story, actual interesting human characters and good balance between Godzilla and these characters on screen. I watched it on an early screening on December 1st, as it will only officially release in my country Decemebr 14th, and I had a blast! If you didn't watched previous movies, don't worry because you don't need to watch them to understand Minus One. It isn't a sequel.
Seriously, if you have the chance go watch it!
Never stop doing what you're doing, I love your videos and I think that they are terrifying but also hilarious.
How can goji be saying the Oppenheimer speech if his vocal cords were destroyed?
I really didn't think the thing that would break Mat this year would be the translations in a Godzilla found footage horror series, but here we are
matt never gives up an opportunity to bring up john on gtlive and i love it so much
