I love imagining my grandparents dancing to this music. They met at a clandestine dance in northern France during the Nazi occupation. Social gatherings were forbidden but that didn't stop the young from finding joy in the midst of a terrifying time. They literally risked their lives for joy. Good for them. I wouldn't exist without their courage.

My parents were married in 1943 when my Dad was home on leave from the military. I like to imagine them listening to this music in my Dad's '39 Hudson convertible. Miss you every day Mom and Dad.
My parents were also married in 1943 when my Dad was home on leave from the Royal Navy. I grew up with his collection of 78rpm records which I spent hours playing on his old gramophone.
This music is fabulous i wish there was a radio station that played this all day I was born in 1957 we always had the radio on i still do bless you for all this lovely music it makes you feel good.
When I listen to this kind of music, I like to disassociate from this present world and pretend it’s just as lovely as it was when this kind of music was all you heard when you went dancing, hopefully with a beautiful young woman like the ones in the pictures accompanying these videos. Sigh. Oh for a Time Machine!
When I was 16, I had a girlfriend who was 2 or 3 years older than me. She picked me up at night and went to "old style" jazzclubs with me. Even with costumes out of that aera. So that style became "music of my youth" instead of pop songs and charts. =D

It's 1945. My Dad is in a Navy Hospital paralyzed from the waist down in California. He has a pleasant disposition, others have told me, and doesn't complain much because others on his ship died for their country. I sure miss him. I miss people like those in the greatest generation who did their duty for their country and didn't, bitch, gripe, moan, groan and run away. Lord, where is the strength and spine for our nation these days? Lord have mercy on us as we have become an nation of entitled assholes!
My grandmother would have been 98 today. She was a great friend in my adult life. Very cool! We used to watch Northern Exposure on Monday nights, smoke cigs, and laugh and laugh. We spent so much time together over the years. What a blessing. 🙂

Whenever I'm really stressed and tired in life, I come back to this video and listen to the great sounds and read through all the great comments. "why don't men and women still dress as elegantly as in those days" Clothes today are more practical but lazy and slovenly, we live in a disposable society where not much is made to last that long anymore. For the life of me I can't understand why many today want to wear such unflattering baggy clothing and tight leggings made mostly out of polyester plastic and cotton in hot climates I would say a lot of the look is influenced by athletes, Hip hop, gangster rap etc. One guesses for a mostly time poor generation who want to show that they don't give a damn especially after Covid 19, many have no time for clothes irons and too lazy to think about what they going to wear and don't care, personally if it is the 'end of times' I would rather go out in style but guess I am a freak. Could be what people from the past would see as lack of style and class is just one generations taste, they worship the ethos of certain corporations over individuality, prefer convenience and attempt to differentiate from the last generation. I know this; anyone who takes pride in their appearance today will likely be stared at, even mocked, bullied seen as; 'attention seeking' or wanting to "be special" every generation has it's ideas good or bad.the live under the illusion we are free when really society dictates what is acceptable in the times we live. I love the music and style of this era pre WW2, the world back then seemed to be more simple/ better/ most people seemed happier/were allowed to be more gentle/more civilized/ genuine/with more freedom in someways but in many ways it wasn't, a lot was great back then depending on where you lived and your station in life, not everything back then was great, somethings today are definitely better while others suck.
I love this era of music and surface level aesthetics. But fashion back then for women was hardly practical. Having to wear heels for any job they managed to get was not only painful but dangerous. I appreciate your admiration for modest fashion and I'm not a fan of today's outfits which seem like one trip and the person bares all to world lol, but comfort should always be prioritised over looks. Women have had to fight for a long time to get many privileges men always had, and taking control of our personal fashion tastes is but one of many things we want to make our own choices on!

I taught myself to work on tube radios of the 30s -50s and then made an AM transmitter so that I can play these tunes through the receivers. They sound better with these tunes playing instead of modern music.

I listen to the music of this era all of the time, thank you for your playlists. They are few and far between, but nothing we like better than going to a dance where this type of music is played, dressed in vintage clothes and imagining we have time travelled to a far better place.
