      Relaxed Hair Tips (summary)
      1. Deep condition regularly (focus on moisture cuz relaxed hair is thirsty hair.)
      2. Turn down the heat! If you cannot dial it down, get a flat iron/curl iron you can regulate.
      3. Watch frequency of relaxers. STRETCH!
      4. Never overlap relaxers (and watch type of relaxers to avoid build up - avoid Calcium Hydroxide.)
      5. Bone straight hair is not the goal of a relaxer.
      6. Scalp health matters! Always base scalp.
      7. Relaxer is for the hair, not the scalp.
      8. Relaxer should not be applied to the edges first.
      9. Do not shampoo hair 3 days before a relaxer.
      10. The scalp is not an indicator of when the relaxer is gone professing. Processing time starts as soon as the relaxer touches the hair.
      11. Avoid caffeine going into your relaxer appointment! Makes scalp more sensitive.
      12. Do not wear a hat to appointment.
      13. Do not workout before a relaxer
      14. Opt for low heat styling.
      15. Maintain style by wrapping at night. Do not apply heat daily.
      16. Always sleep on satin or silk (these are moisture resistant fabrics.)
      17. PROFESSIONALLY: ask stylist about using OLAPLEX 1 in relaxer and OLAPLEX 2 post relaxer.
      18. Stay on top of trims.
      19. Relaxer and bleaching do not go together.
      20. Be gentle (wet hair tells all the truth dry hair lies about.)
      21. Detangle hair starting at from the ends.
      22. Relaxed hair is high porosity.
      23. Use heat protection (isopropyl alcohol and SD alcohol free.)
      24. Do not be afraid of silicones after moisturizing hair.
      25. Hair should not be relaxed prior to puberty.
Additional tips not listed: medical and psychiatric conditions (thyroid disease, lupus, alopecia , depression, anorexia etc) impact hair.
My tip: Puberty is not a license to process!

Why is this man so amazing!?! Dropping a ton of knowledge that a lot of us relaxed girls need while NOT being judgmental bc of our decision to relax! He’s funny and his voice is so relaxing and reassuring! I always feel better at the end of watching his videos and short clips! That part about being NOT judgmental is true, it's appreciated. The fact that some "professional" hairstylist come very rude to relaxed hair is quite shocking. We all choose how we'd like our hair, whether that's relaxed, natural, blue, blonde, baby hairs or none just be professional. So I'm thankful for his positive and professionalism.

The judgement is real sometimes so I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels that way at times
(Especially from fellow people of color….unfortunately)

Just because you’re enjoying your natural hair journey doesn’t mean you have to tear up someone else’s journey.” He said it all there. I like the non judgmental approach towards relaxed hair. I’m over the people with natural hair who act like they’re the poster child of good health or the “real black people.” My hair is relaxed, thick, long and healthy because I take care of it by incorporating over 90% of his tips. Having relaxed hair is my choice. I love being a black woman and having a relaxer does not change that. Sorry I had to vent.

I hope it is okay to say this. For those with relaxed hair, just know that ALMOST every thing he talks about natural hair, can be applied to relaxed hair. I am relaxed for years, followed him and applied a lot of his teaching to my hair routine. With some research, I tweak some advice to take care of my hair as relaxed. I stretched between 11 to 13 weeks.

These tips are 1000% spot on. Relaxed girl here, still loving the creamy crack for well over 30 years and my hair is super healthy. I am at 12 to 14 weeks for a relaxer. First, having a fabulous hairdresser is key. When Covid hit I was forced to deal with hair that had not been relaxed in well over a year. During that time I relied on the relief and hydration of natural hair products gave me. As Lindwood says, (I love that he and my cousin share the same name!❤) hydration is the key. Most people believe If you get a relaxer you are done with your hair. As your hair is your crowning joy why on earth would you not tend to it and treat it like gold? I only use heat on my hair after wash and blow-dry. I always wrap my hair in silk and/or satin. I pin curl my hair or use Spoolies. I don't weigh my scalp down with heavy oils as your head needs to breathe. I only use product when necessary. Do all the tips in this video and you will have lovely locks always.

Yessss! Shout out to the girly whose comment led to this content. I've known for a while that moisture and protein balance matter for both relaxed and natural hair - so most of your content has always been helpful to me. Most of your tips are already a part of my hair routine, but the biggest takeaways are: the sensitive scalp chemical difference, that coarse hair is really fine and how to use silicones. I live in Houston and sweat in my head, so the humidity has me at war with frizz. So many products to combat frizz have silicones so I haven't been able to find a solution to the frizz. Your tips on how to use them are much appreciated!

I was always led to believe by my mother that she had to relax my hair because I didn't want it combed as a child. So I grew up believing that my natural hair would be so hard to handle. My hair stylist for years kept telling me that my hair would not be hard to take care as a natural. I am now in my late 40s and have just stopped relaxing my hair and I can't believe that my hair is not hard to handle as my mom led me to believe. So I 100 per cent agree with you with waiting and letting people decide once they are older to get their hair relaxed.

One of the most important tips you gave was not to relax prior to puberty. I've heard far too many stories or children as young as 4 getting a relaxer. I was around 8 or 9 when I had my first relaxer. Additionally, we start so much self hatred with children and their hair when we relax when they are so young.

Love your videos! The info regarding moisture and protein balance was new to me as well as consuming stimulants before relaxers is new - but totally makes sense. I wish I had this advice when I wore my hair relaxed for 20 years (scalp burns, over processing, relaxing prior to puberty, shedding, ...I experienced all that). Now that I've been natural for 16 years, I've realized that education is key. One is not "easier" than the other. I've experienced dryness and breakage with both relaxed and natural hair due to lack of education. Thank you, for informing and educating Linwood! ❤ This was very helpful.

Sir I had to go natural to figure out why my relaxed hair was so damaged. Lol! They would over process my hair, never base my scalp and never offer a salon protein treatment. 😅 When I started going to Aveda, the stylist there told me that my hair was fine and I needed a daily protein leave in. This stylist was a white girl with straight pink hair but she was absolutely right! From then on I would only go to Aveda. Now I use the entire Aphogee line strictly in accordance with the instructions. Also everything you said applies for all chemically altered hair, curly perm, bleach, dye, keratin straightening. Chemically treated hair is high maintenence hair. My hair is already high maintenance so it wasn't a shock after i got bleached honey blonde highlights two weeks ago.

I couldn't tell you my curl pattern but I follow all his tips for high porosity hair and I have seen not only growth but RETENTION!!! Let them ends go and deep condition!!❤❤❤

Thank you, thank you so very much...I've learned so much! My Mom started relaxing my hair when I was 9 because, to this day, I sweat in my head...btw I'm 64 yrs old. I'm going to watch this video several times to absorb all the info!

Thank you thank you! I am relaxed but I still took the foundational advice you give to maintain it. I always deep condition with protein/moisture or hydrating mix. I roller set to dry on medium heat which takes forever as I am mid-back but I make it work. I have stretched my relaxers to twice a year and I get a deep protein treatment then. No permanent color and I trim whenever it needs it. You are the GOAT for all hair care but as a relaxed girl thanks for the special attention. I do use the Olaplex 1 & 2 with my relaxers and I love the results.

After a 2-time run with being natural I’m back to relaxed hair. Exercising daily and sweating was murder on my natural so I cut it and went back to a style I can manage. I appreciate the tips and u sharing your knowledge.

Aww shucks, I was contemplating going natural because I thought the sweating was annoying and destructive to my relaxed hair and it would be easier to manage when natural. Glad I read this comment.

    • @JCLPAA
      @JCLPAA 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@its_eboni The sweat made my hair very dry and even coarser so it was impossible to comb on a daily basis and a silk press would only last a day or I had to rearrange my workout routine. It became too much of a hassle and constantly wearing braids wasn’t good either. With all of the products on the market and your texture of hair, you may have a totally different and much better experience being natural.

I too am relaxed and although I’ve taken a lot of your profession hair care knowledge of the natural men and women to some of my hair routines….I have also been one of those who felt like I was missing even more valuable information. I’m so glad that you first apologized to the (hopefully still subscribed TH-cam member), and then addressed every thing possible for us relaxed hair viewers/subscribers can now take even more information and apply to our daily, weekly, or even monthly routine….and if nothing more it’s just good for me to finally see a male do a relaxed hair care video. I think you are wonderful and so cute. I love watching your videos even though most of your tips do not apply to me. I know you are very knowledgeable, and I wish when I was young I had a stylist like you. Because I am much older than you and all the beauticians I was sent to when I was very young did nothing but destroy my hair, I will never go to a beautician or salon again. I do my own hair myself and will never let anyone else touch my hair. I say that because I have naturally thick hair, my hair is extremely healthy, and has grown almost to my waist. I have tried several times to be completely natural, however, because my hair is thick, it is too difficult for me to manage. I TexLax my hair with relaxer. Meaning I just apply it to only the new growth and rinse it out. I then spend an hour neutralizing my hair. I wash my hair at least 10 times with neutralizing shampoo, then end with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioning. You forgot to mention in this video the importance of neutralizing. I use relaxer in my hair only to make it more manageable, not for it to be straight. I touch up my new growth every 16 weeks, I lightly trim every 8 weeks, I wash every 2 weeks, then deep condition every time I wash. I never use any heat on my hair and my hair is always hydrated and moisturized. I use very low manipulation, because I work from home and do not need to style my hair daily. When I do style my hair, it is always in a protective bun. Yes, I know very boring, but that is why my hair almost down to my waist and healthier than it has ever been. Thank you so much for your videos!

As a newly relaxed member this was a very pleasant surprise! I was natural 3 years but before that I had relaxers from ages 7-16 then I went natural it was too much and I'm back to relaxers I am very happy about my decision before my mother would relax my hair at home and she would re-relax my entire head from root to tip EVERY SINGLE "TOUCH UP" the fact that I still have hair (and plenty of it) on my scalp is a miracle and I would burn every time HOWEVER this time I went to a professional my scalp did not burn even a little big my hair turned out thick shiny and with lots of bounce and I am very excited to begin this new relaxed journey armed with proper knowledge 💕
