I love this video, legitimately what should've happened and your so right about MLM rep in kids cartoons 😭😭!!! I watch TONS and I can barely think of any that have MLM rep besides being in the background. Avatar studios should've went down this route instead instead of a new out of no where sister, but they were too afraid of backlash. It's really a shame.
This is something I enjoy about Avatar. Even their evil villains are evil in a way that's true to life. Sozin was an awful man but his motivations are exactly what drives colonisation and because he's in the position of ultimate power, he just passes it on to his descendants until Zuko was forced to confront it and change for the better
I agree with your suggestions: Sozin is more of a person who was expected to be the Avatar but did not become the Avatar. Sozin's father is disappointed with the outcome so Sozin wants to impress his father in any way possible. Since the Avatar's job is to help bring peace and maintain balance to the world, it is plausible that Sozin's daddy issues and his insecurity of not being able to be born as the Avatar caused him to become a somewhat "Dark Avatar" by building up the Fire Nation's expansionism to force peace on the world.
This is so spot on. Sozin's characterization was something that had so much potential. Furthermore, I truly believe that, given the right circumstances, Sozin could have had an extremely beautiful and profound redemption arc. We saw how Iroh and Zuko, given their respective circumstances, had their personal and character development. Although Sozin's arc is more similar to Azula's, there are similarities between systematic things that (seemingly) every royal child appears to have: a desire bordering on desperation for their father's approval and affection. As the episode itself brings us the message: Roku was as much Fire Nation as Sozin. But their creations, opportunities, circumstances and feelings were divergent, and this influenced the path they took. Anyway, such great video!
A very interesting video. And I agree it complements the character. I would also add something tied to the analysis from Cinema Therapy on "The Prince of Egypt": hate is not opposed to love, it takes roots from love. And I know people can reject a part of them either by fear or by hate because of personal experience, so it works well. Finally, concerning Sozin being spared, there is the slight but important detail that killing him could have provoked problems within the Fire Nation as Sozin was heirless as far as I know (and considering his sister didn't exist in any manner before the 2020's announcement, it is further the case in the original canon). Killing Sozin could have created more problems than it had solved. Sure, Sozin provoked the 100 years war, BUT as you pointed out, he didn't make any move against the world or the Avatar for 25 years and only seized an opportunity due to the circumstances, making his betrayal far more tragic in a way because it wasn't calculated. And considering he spent 12 years preparing for war is another example of how Roku's warning worked, because if he had kept preparing his Nation for his dream, he would have striked in the following years after Roku's death, "Sozin"'s comet or not. And considering the man regretted many things of what he did, your headcanon worked also here well, because in the end, he lost everything he was looking for. He might have been seen as victorious, but in reality, he lost. Hindsight had its advantage, but sometimes, it is easy to overlook details of the specific context when it concerned certain situations, otherwise, the takes we are making are like those of people within an ivory tower.
Great video!!! Highly doubt it but Reckoning of Roku is coming out next year, maybe there’s still a chance for Sozin to get some more characterization that would explain how he acts. Hopefully!!!
@@conniemcfalcon ah i hope so!! There’s lots of potential with him, along with Roku and Gyatso. I hope the novel will do them all justice, im glad they’re finally giving a bit of focus to Roku
While ATLA isn’t perfect, it always stood out for its weirdly effective ability to make every character seem reasonable in some way, even if they were completely freaking insane.
Finally watched this video in the bkg while doing hw, but I was surprised by the editing :) P cool p cool ykyk I think the video was nice! Kinda reminds me of Faline San's video format, which I wasn't into until I started watching it lol
"there are two main things that could save Sozin as a character: daddy issues and homosexuality"

You're right. The series is magnificent at designing villains, I wanted to give Sozin that same treatment :)

I really like how you worded this. Really good view

I'm curious about how they will take it. Maybe they'll keep him in mind!

There was always a method to their madness

Videos I can listen while doing other stuff are my favorite! I'm happy that my editing was eye-catching enough though haha
Thanks!
This is legit my favourite video to watch for some reason ‼️
Well for whatever reason it is, thank you for saying that ❤️
