    This deadbolt lock is special. Cold Steel tested it recently on the clever girl and it held several hundred pounds against the spine. Even AD gave it high praise. Also adding to the strength of this knife is the "thumb stud" blade stops that give the knife incredible lateral strength. This is a very cool, tough knife that is actually bringing me around to CRKT again.

    Seriously the most frustrating thing about CRKT is their willingness to try new ideas and go new ways, but their execution is almost always leaving a lot to be desired. So I gave up on CRKT a long time ago and it will take something really special to win me over again.

    I absolutely love this knife. However it took a bargain price, sanding down all the rough edges and breaking in the locking mechanism. If they'd fix these three things it would be a clear winner and serious competition for Cold Steel knives. Also the 4116 blade steel is well heat treated, performs much better than I expected.

      I put a mirror edge on mine and it's indescribably sharp. It baffles me that a knife with such big blade stock got as sharp as it did. So the steel actually impressed me. As the lock breaks in it becomes super addicting and fidgety. I have many higher end folders in my collection but I grab this knife all the time. I shouldn't like it as much as I do lol

    The Deadbolt seems pretty cool. It's just all the knives CRKT has been putting it on don't appeal to me the Seismic, and the Clever Girl folder are almost there just seem like to thrown together I guess. The Clever Girl could be amazing if they upped the steel and used peal ply, or contoured smooth G10 but D2 and the rippled G10 kill it for me. And the Seismic with a more traditional drop point, or Spear point would do it, but that swoopy blade kills it. The XOC seems to be the best but its HUGE and has a huge price tag.

    • @Stahlwerk88
      @Stahlwerk88 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For real. It’s like they came out with this new lock but didn’t have the slightest idea what to do with it. So the solution was to slap it on their biggest, most gas-stationy generic-looking folder designs and hope the “shiny & new!” would win us over.
      But it didn’t.

    • @The4cp
      @The4cp 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lock system is meant for heavy use the blade steel completely compromises that. S30V or S35VN and some better egos and this could compete with Cold Steel and the Triad Lock.

      I think the same thing with CRKT. I like a lot of their knives but their abusive dedication to 8Cr13Mov really annoys me. I mean it's fine I don't mind it for beaters, knives under 30 I can forgive it, I'm not a steel snob. But when they start charging 50-60-70+ for 8Cr13Mov I'm like yeah... I'm not paying 70 for that. I noticed they used D2 in the Parascale deadbolt, but those handle scales looks terrible, then they go and charge 130.00 for it. Yeah im not too impressed with their steel choice and price points. Get rid of the horrible parascale handles and knock it down to 80 and I might buy it.

  • @antonlangdahl661

    I have the clever girl folder. In my hands it also had some sharp corners so but i sanded the edges wich solved the problem. I agre partially that the disassembly is not the smothest but that is only if you take everything apart. I use it alot but if i clean i only take the lock apart an the button i can unscrew with my fingers and the pivot with my victorinox. Then i can take the blade and bearings out and clean most of the knife. So for me its a simple knife to clean 90% and also greas the bearings if you like. These parts are not small so your not likely to loose them if you take it apart in "the field". I dont know if the seismic worls the same way or if you have to take apart one of the handlescales.
    Just my experiense love your rewies. And sorry for the english it was not my favorite in school hope you understand what ikm trying to say.

    Thank you for reviewing a larger knife. I’ve enjoyed your past reviews but had unsubscribed because you seemed to constantly favor tiny knives. I and hopefully many others will reconsider subscribing if you will mix it up for those of us who have large hands and prefer a larger knife. Your reviews from a technical / mechanical perspective have always been among the best and that’s appreciated. If you continue to review larger knives, I’d also be more willing to contribute to your site.

    Hi Nick, I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it either. I do like the fact that it has a flipper and thumbstuds. That’s a big plus for me. Another big thing I think you should consider in your reviews is flipping action with no wrist. That’s another big thing for my EDC knives. I don’t like ‘em as much if they won’t lock up without some wrist action.

      If you’re ever in a situation where the pivot seems even capable of failure, let alone “likely” to, then you’re either demoing a house all by yourself with nothing but that knife or, more likely, you’re sitting behind a keyboard and speaking in illogical hypotheticals.

    • @FabeardulousKnucks

    I have a philosophical problem or better said a philological difficulty with classifying a four inch blade as EDC.
    Folding is obviously a thing it does but doesn't EDC not have other defining characteristics? Maybe like "everyday carry".
    By the way, for the "tactical crew", I'd recommend a baseball bat. You will get less hard time in the clinker.

      Paul Joseph Buggle
      In my country it's allowed to carry a 4" knife (up to 28cm unfolded is legal) but carrying a baseball bat is very illegal
      If you play baseball you have to park your car on your own property, put your bat in the trunk drive up to the training field and unload your bat on the parking spot but only if the parking spot is owned by the training facility otherwise you have to unload your bat on the field
      You can also mail the bat to the training facility or like most people leave your bat there

    I really liked the look of this knife in the thumbnail. When I saw how thick it was, how large, my enthusiasm vanished. If it was sleek and a bit smaller and thinner I think it would be nice. As it is I don’t need a extra large Voyager size knife pulling down my pants because its so bulky and heavy if I carry it.

    I have had this knife for over a year now and I am not crazy about it. I like the blade finish, locking mechanism is rock solid, and I partially like the blade profile but I wish it didn't have a curve on the top of the blade (spine) and that it was straight all the way through to the tip of the blade. IMO it's just ok. The blade is an ingot steel and you can see it was stamped out of a sheet of steel then profiled because the unexposed part of the blade where the dead bolt pins go in is all crummy looking. Poor attention to detail. The ergos are wonky also as he said. Overall I do like the knife but I certainly don't love it. 6/10 on this knife.
    Maybe If I am feeling brave I will reprofile the blade one day.
