I love the Pulsar because it makes me embrace humanity in music. In other words: Imperfection. It's an anti-grid machine, even though it can be on the grid if you clock it from the outside.
Thanks. Always nice to hear people listen to the tracks. I spent a while trying to make music I’d use rather than simply demoing functions. Puts things in perspective I think.
Hi Starsky, great video, some really interesting ideas here which are helping me a lot! I was wondering if you could help me with something. I want to create a ratchet/roll on my hihat that I can trigger manually by hitting either the hihat contact or the CV contacts next to it. I know there's a way of doing it I just can't remember how! Any help appreciated! 😊
the 606 generates a 24 ppq Signal... looking at your settings, you are sending 24ppq (96 ticks/s) to the Pulsar. Based on the manual it expects 128 pulses per second. How does this align?
@@StarskyCarr Yeah, I mean, it's not exactly like it, what with the explicit lyrics and all, but it does sound like Peaches produced F*** The Pain Away on the Soma, or could easily have used it to make her track. Which is why at least to me, it sounds similar, but not the same. I think you know what I mean?? Lol.
It’s much more immediate and you don’t have to remember where you saved the samples and what memory they’re stored in 😂 I sold my machine drum for the Rytm. This is much more fun!
@@StarskyCarr I have many things that can be paired with it but I was thinking what you just confirmed - on its own it is not a drum machine, like AR or Tempest, rather, its totally modular thing that can do whatever you want with it. One thing though, it is 1.5 k £ - do you think this would be better investment than, say Perfourmer mk2? Just asking for an opinion, not holding you to it:) I am aware of the differences, just wondering do you feel Pulsar is worth it.
@@earlsfield hats weird… I was looking at a performer mk2 on eBay this morning!! And bought one years ago but they never sent it (went too cheap I think) For me the pulsar is much more of an inspiration… the start of some fine grooves. There’s no question in my mind that this is the better option - for me at least.
@@StarskyCarr Cheers mate, for the answer - I thought so. I will deffo get it rather than perforumer. Hah and I feel you for ebay auctions, i did have a few items like that never sent, due to the low final price. It's like - wtf, you wanted it auctioned, if not, set it fixed!
That doesn’t matter in reality because I’ve heard money doesn’t exist - it’s simply a capitalist construct to subjugate the general populous… once you take that into consideration it’s a no brainer 🧠 🤔 💭
One thing I missed … to keep the internal clock and looper always in sync connect LRST to 0.25 clock - a tip from Vlad himself ;)

Wtf. R u on
Hint of Assualt on precinct 13 at 6:00 excellent stuff
Love the music examples in this video. Top stuff, Mr Carr!
Best Pulsar video ever! Love it!
Very inspiring video. Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Excellent video and the music is wonderful!

It sounds great! And you cram in a ton of info.
Starsky Carr dropping some sick industrial beats. Nice.
Thanks for sharing, great video !
Having something called the "WTF" on a synth is a must! Essential.
In all my years of discussing synthesizers online, one of the statements that always stuck with me was "every synthesizer needs a pants knob".
Would love to see you tackle the Perkons
6 min 10 reminds so hard to Bjork… fantastic
Oh yeah… 🤩

What do you have in the euro rack skiff?
Great video! Question about demo 4: I don't really get how you modulate the BD pitch every four bars?
Touching the connectors - no idea what’s going on but that’s part of the fun! Touch stuff and sh!t happens 😂
@@StarskyCarr oh of course, you're touching the OMG pin!

I'm going via a euro rack module with divider.
Hi 👋🏻
Cool vid
What audio interface are you using for recording all channels plus effects.
Thanks
I’m using a Focusrite Scarlett gen 3.
18i20 ?
@@Gethinm80 18i8 - I don’t need too many inputs for the videos.
IDK why, but one of your ideas reminds me a little of Peaches = Fk the pain away.
Looking it up now :)

Well, put it this way, The Peaches track is begging for a Starsky Carr remix.
Really tempted to sell my Machinedrum SPS-1 UW mk2 and get the Pulsar-23…

@@StarskyCarr thanks for the advice 👍🏻 only one more decision, which colour sounds better 🤪
@@DeGrale. it took me longer to pick the colour than to decide to get one.
@@StarskyCarr ha! 😂😂😂 I might wait for the black & gold 🤞🏻
I really want this instrument badly.
It’s great. And there’s so much stuff you can do with it standalone - I’ve lost days!

Tell me you are broke without telling me you are broke.
Sell the rest of your shit and get this and have no regrets.
This is like 5 grand in modular gear in one box. It’s honestly a steal for the price.
