Accurate equipment, really working in this HAM station. Ham radio operators are F.C.C. licensed as radio stations. Ham operators build their own stations at their own expense and talk all over the world to other hams, a hobby which started in 1896 when wireless telegraphy was invented. Today, millions of HAMS help out in natural disasters when cell phones, computers and all electricity goes down. HAMS volunteer and provide communications for the public, fire, police and emergency responders.

      From the QRZ site...
The 20th Century Fox Television series, “Last Man Standing” is about Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), who runs “Outdoor Man,” a fictitious sporting goods chain based in Colorado.
Mike, is a “man’s man” and involved in many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, camping, hiking and boating. These days, all these activities have some technology associated with them. Mike (and Tim) has a love for all technology especially electronics. Among Mike’s interests is Amateur Radio (Ham Radio).
Tim's character, Mike Baxter has the fictitous call sign KA0XTT which was "cleared" for use on air. "XTT" is a bit of a private joke as Tim's character's name on "Home Improvement" was Tim Taylor. So, ex T. T.
Tim has his own, real call sign in real life. Recently, cast member, Jet Jurgensmeyer who plays Boyd Baxter on the show also got his license .
The licenesed crew members formed the Last Man Standing Amateur Radio Club (LMSARC) under the club call KA6LMS. On some Tuesday, show nights they use the on-set radios to contact their fans.
Some examples of the use of amateur radio can be seen in episodes:
114 - "Odd Couple Out" - Mike is finishing a QSO with N6QJ at the start of a scene.
217 - "The Fight" - Mandy (KF0XIE) uses her fathers radio to talk to Kyle (KD0XCS) and Ed (KB0ASQ).
309 - "Thanksgiving" - Mike sneaks into the basement to talk about a football game on the radio.
713 - Mike is finishing a QSO with AA6RA at the start of a scene.
Episodes of "Last Man Standing" can be sceen in syndication all over the country.
LMS returns for season 8 in January of 2020 on Thursday nights at 8PM/7PM Central on the Fox Network.
Fans wishing to receive a KA0XTT QSL card may send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope and their QSL card or a note to this QRZ address.

The character he's playing, "Mike Baxter," is obviously higher up than a Tech. Just because the actor is "only a tech," doesn't mean the character couldn't be a General or even Extra. It WAS a TV show, after all.
