Well done on this review, I must be getting to that age where a well paced review is to my likening, it was personalised, honest and not a brochure. A lot of ppl buy/lesse outback's as fleet cars - cruisers for long Aussie roads with more comfortable suspension than normal. I would consider this for my job shich I considered an outback for, didn't need awd or off road, just long comfy car
I have a 2019 P508SW with the same 8 speed Aisin torque converter gearbox and I don't understand what do you mean by "jerky"!?! I've done over 60.000 km with it, and basically I haven't noticed a single "miss-shift" or jerkiness.... it's not the fastest gearbox in the existence, but within its technical "torque converter type gearbox limitations" it preforms really well, with smooth and unnoticeable changes which most likely suit a comfort oriented C5 X even more than it does to my P508SW!
@@chasingcars and because it looks far better, without drastically hindering the practicality (you can still fit a washing machine sized load in its boot ;) ).... cause the damn thing looks really (and surprisingly) nice in person!
If it was diesel with AWD it would be gorgeous package. PSA still don't get it with the FWD 1.6 t combo . Aussies like a little more power and an AWD option. They had the same issue with C5 Aircross great car no options , not even a sunroof for our market.
Great review - love a Citroen estate or any estate over an SUV - the 508 estate an internal competitor and both equally stylish and like the VW Arteon estate a niche market sure but glad it’s here 🎉
I also don't understand where this "mantra" of complicated hydropneumatic suspension.... the thing was assembled with the pump, metal tubing, oil reservoir and damping spheres! the thing functioned if the motor run and tubing wasn't ruptured... I had a Citroen GS for 25 years with over 380.000 km on the clock that still had an original spheres and worked beautifully.... besides that, last hydractive III version of it came with a 200.000 km maintenance free warranty, if I'm not mistaking.... Citroen most likely stopped using it because of the production costs, not because it would be "too complicated and expensive to repair"... and arguably because of the ever increasing consuption and CO2 emissions limitations (unlike classic shock absorbers, it does take power to function)... so the reason for its disappearance would be more in the "cost cutting" than anything else....
The interior seems good but I think I will be keeping my Outback. Don't think I could tolerate that jerky transmission in the C5 one little bit and living in a country area, don't want to give up AWD either.
Given 45% of the country’s population is greater Sydney or Melbourne it’s fair to say PSA can still cover a pretty generous share of buyers in Australia, even with such a limited network
Er… reviewing it? Merely pointing out that suggesting that a network fairly limited to Sydney & Melbourne isn’t a huge dunk when those metro areas are where half our country resides, per census data. That is not about whether the car is good or not, it’s simply a statement of fact
Looks great and very premium, but for that sort of money, there's some much better choices out there. The fact that we don't get a diesel option or AWD option here in Australia, is very disappointing, the 1.6T would be quite underpowered for the size of this vehicle.
One thing I always found concerning about the French manufacturers is the moment sales tank they'll leave the country and then what?? You end up stuck with a car no one wants to buy and no spare parts ...
They aren't going anywhere. French cars have a long history in Australia and there are a lot of enthusiasts. Great cars, just a bit overpriced and undersupported. They should move to a factory backed operation instead IMO.
Means sod all to the bean counters here & in France if a profit isn't being generated. All the more worrisome if the stats are correct that Citroen Oz only sold low 100s last year.@@michaelostrowski8630
Fair enough. Though I do find it an amusing inversion of older sentiment that the Skoda’s DSG is now the gearbox referred to as ‘not jerky’ when compared to a torque converter. Not saying you’re wrong, either.
Sorry for criticizing but the worst camera man and film editor I have ever seen on this channel. “The average Budget Direct customer paid…. Um…well not sure actually, can’t actually remember the last time anyone in Australia asked to insure a new Citroen…”
It's said that because of our limited market, we get "left overs" of Euro cars that they can't sell in Europe, hence the poor colour selection which is inexcusable considering its big brother Peugeot has a broader range beyond various hues of grey, dark blue etc. And the reference by Citroen to the rear window being a "sedan" shape and therefore a wiper isn't needed is utter bull droppings!! Rear cameras are useless in pouring rain or when the lens is muddied. It's penny/franc/euro cost cutting pure & simple. Merde. 😠
It’s got nothing to do with Great Wall Motors - PSA’s JV partner is Dongfeng (different group to GWM), but this car is a PSA EMP2 vehicle built in China, not a rebadged Dongfeng car
@@chasingcars China isn't exactly a European made vehicle. I would rather made in Japan or Korean. I don't believe the car is priced at made-in-China prices. Why would they make a wagon body and just cut the wagon part by styling it like a fastback? They missed the point of a wagon.

No thanks, you may as well set your money alight
Do you still "really like" the touchscreen when you are leaning across the wheel to use it with your right hand while you are actually driving?
Did I miss the running cost section?
You didn’t miss it. It didn’t get filmed! Servicing is capped but quite expensive - around $2800 for 5 years/100,000km (20,000km intervals)
A very appealing urban car. I’d buy one if I was an empty nester.
Is this Citroen still made in France or made in their new Citroen factories in China?
A Google search says the Australian delivered C5 is made in Chengdu, China. I wonder if that will make it more reliable than French cars of old??

Yeah, it’s certainly different from the norm.
