Very good guide but what bothers me in the HDR vs SDR.. the dark areas are getting totally crushed away while the whites are already way to aggresive. Same problem on the FF7 Remake. Playing PC on a C2.
I've a Hisense QLED 55U6G that's 700 nits and there's purple blotchiness with some blacks and shadows on characters. Especially in cutscenes. There is very noticeable color banding that's also applied to some sections of the menus. If I lower the HDR brightness it hides it a little bit, but it's still noticeable.
It's just the way the game looks in some areas, don't worry about it. I have a Sony ZD9 and this happens for me too. Set the slider to -6 or -7 and you'll not have as much clipping.
Just finished. Noticed some blue highlights on my c1 hgig. Only on few effects like some explosions with lava and sun in the ending shot. Similar to clouds in gow2018. Overblown highlights but very rare

One question that came to mind is that how do you know if the lamp in the beginning is supposed to produce the highest peak brightness? Shouldn’t something like the sun be alot brighter or how is it with HDR content?

shimmy shimmy ya, shimmering shimmarey! Just tried the game few hours ago on PC with LG 42 C2, haven't see any shimmering so far, at least not on the hair, with that gimmickry enhancement setting on high. But already saw quite a few low texture assets , it's just lame , but, overall, I am pretty hyped, HDR looks tasty.
My HDR looked partially muted in color and grey tone on console. The game forces bt2020 in HDR so I went into LG service menu and changed coloriemtry from auto to bt2020 and then relaunched game. I don't have a way to measure anything but it seems to have visually changed for the better for me at least. LGC2
Yow thanks for doing this. Though I have a question, not sure I got it right. I'm on ps5 playing in an LGC1. Should I use the first row setting in the sheet (setting for C1) or, should I use the ps5 setting in the sheet (the one in the middle). I tried the C1 setting and it does look so much better. Before this, most environments looked super dark.
There seems to be a strange glitch in the graphics menu. After getting to chapter 2 I noticed the game was darker for some reason so I went in the options and there were 3 hdr screen settings. I turned hdr off then back on again and it went back to the original 2 hdr option screens. Very strange. Don't know how else to explain it.

Everyone says this, and I tried the black level adjust, and I have to be honest, I preferred the look artistically of HDR without BLA on Diablo 4. I’m probably in the minority and that’s fine. I feel they were going for that look and it fits the mood of the game well.

When setting it up on the a90k should you do it with tone mapping on or off? Off max brightness is all the way down but on gradation its 3 clicks above mid .
If you have tone mapping turned on then whatever you set it to won’t matter as the TV will always be trying to adjust to what it thinks is the correct image. First decide whether you want to play with tone mapping on (in your case I probably would leave it on) and if you do just leave the calibration screen alone.
Man...after playing dead space and even the new patch of calisto protocol in hdr which both are great, Resi 4 continues the bland colour palette that all capcom games in hdr have... i tried some settings, even trying darken the second part of the hdr calibration and ended turning off hdr in the game
I have sony kd-65x85k 65 inch tv and RE4:REMAKE for PS5, what is your video settings recommendations for best video for it? Also how do i go to "Dynamic Tone Mapping" option?
I have a 55" Sony XH95 and this games looks terrible in HDR on PS5. Black crush in every dark spot, theres like a blue tint in areas where the game loads a new preset lighting, sometimes its so dark that Leon completely vanishes in the picture and i can only see his neck and hair, in cutscenes i can see some kind of color gradient on the skin and clothing like in some bad picture with the wrong bit / color depth ... i have no idea whats going on there but i never had this in any other PS4 / PS5 game that i own.
If u plz can u make a video about Devil may cry 5 special edition on ps5 ,.. something is wrong about HDR in this game, colors washed out and everything seems grey filtered
Hello, I would like to ask how I can achieve such smooth movement as you have. You have an LG Oled C3, but I don't have such smooth movement and such a picture.(I have ps5)
If you have hdr set to always on on ps5 it will affect games own hdr and make it darker. Set it to “when available” and then you will see what a game is supposed to look like. Sony is messing things up.
After few more Hours in the game and little messing round with the picture settings i went back to 50 because sometimes i'm just losing details and it does not look good. Sometimes the little blueish greyd out picture is a art choice from developers. RE remakes seems to be one of such cases because RE2 & RE3 have the same "issues". And game looks phebonomenal in those wooden light interiers. In those moments the black is perfect black. But then you get outside at night and the picture looks more washed out but kinda still looks okay. That's why i think it's choice and we should respect it to get the outcome they worked on.
I just got to the Castle. Black levels are definitely raised. It's terrible. I'm in a room where the only source of light is my flashlight yet i can see the entire room because it's washed like hell. But as you die, or pick up something or when you are not in the game. It's perfect black again. It's either a choice or a problem that remains to be unfixed because like i said the same was in RE2, RE3. It sucks! I'm pretty sure Capcom is not gonna fix it and we will see the next time aswell. Ruins the game for me honestly. Nothing you can do about this. Naughty Dog should start a classroom for other developers on how to fuckin do this!
I see terrible black crush in later areas of the game. Especially outside around the village after certain events take place and the lighting changes to dusk. The first couple of chapters didn't exhibit any of this and I thought it looked great. I can mitigate this raising the 2nd brightness slider but this blows out the highlights and mid-tones. Once again Capcom fails to provide a consistent HDR experience. Dead Space which is an even darker game looks amazing and consistent from start to finish without crushing any shadow details.
Playing the PC version here. The game looks great in HDR... until you get to the dark areas in the game, such as the garden maze. The game just looks awful, it falls apart. The areas in question just look all crushed and awful. Reading online, this isn't specific to the PC version either. Anyone else experienced this?
He says that the second HDR-setting will not have any impact on the maximum peak brightness and that you could change it to whatever you like. I disagree. If you for example turn the second setting all the way to the right (or not even fully) then you will get visual "errors" like a torch in front of a wall looking way to bright and the flame can't be distinguished by the wall anymore because it's all too bright. Playing on PC on a LG OLED C1.
of course this will happen but not because the max peak brightness is changing it's because your oled is struggling with keeping up with the brightness overall.
Seems like i misunderstood you in the video then. At least one could argue it's a little bit misleading when you say "set the average picture brightness to you liking" (the second setting) because if you just crank it up all the way because you really liked a bright picture you would get crushed details in bright areas. There is no consumer OLED on the market today that could "handle" such high settings, no? @@GamingTech-TH-cam
Sorry for the nitpick. I really like your videos and i come here every time a new HDR-title is released to get the correct settings for my TV! Keep up the good work! @@GamingTech-TH-cam
Anyone using a Bravia x750h? It's a entry level Bravia. Most ps4 games look washed out in HDR mode. Game patches do help most times. I remember AC Odyssey looked horrible till I downloaded the update. It seemed to fix the HDR brightness. Just updated re4. Bout to see what it fixes now.
hey gaming tech i have the cooler master gp27q mini led monitor. Is a true hdr monitor however i can`t view screen shots in hdr using the HDR + WCG Image Viewer APP. When I play the game in hdr it looks the way it`s intended to look but it looks washed out in screenshots.
Why on earth would anyone use dynamic tone mapping with an HDR game? It's only useful for old SDR content, like old TV shows, and even that's debatable. BTW, dolbyvision is also bad on both consoles due to their hdmi throughput limits. It will drop chroma resolution; 12bit per channel RBG isn't possible at all.
Should I get the PC Version?

I don't understand why other web's say the middle point ( 0 ) is 1026 nits for console, the same as PC
I have sony kd-65x85k 65 inch tv and RE4:REMAKE for PS5, what is your video settings recommendations for best video for it?
Also how do i go to "Dynamic Tone Mapping" option?
I’m getting really bad blotchy blacks in shadowed areas on PS5. This seems to be pretty widespread except nobody is talking about it.
Great content again 👍👍
Du machst das schon sehr gut! Ich mache Ähnliches im Job 😂
If u plz can u make a video about Devil may cry 5 special edition on ps5 ,.. something is wrong about HDR in this game, colors washed out and everything seems grey filtered
On a samsung q80t what should i use as example in the tab where you reccomand the max brightness level ?🤔
I have the Samsung s95b. Anyone have any setting suggestions for that? Any help would be appreciated.
Hail!
What is with the Sony XR42 A90K?
I find that the game has some crushing blacks in hdr though
I have BX and i feel like that aswell. I downed TV britghness to 49 and it's better. For example flashlight now makes sense in the game.
@@jakubzamazal yeah i mean if u are on hdr its worse so turn it off i have and i find it to be better
Are the settings in the table for the first calibration screen or for the second one?
First one
@SWRETGdergadrhare I agree I should mention that setting it to the max will impact the picture on an oled and maybe even on some lcds. I am learning 😌
Sorry for the nitpick. I really like your videos and i come here every time a new HDR-title is released to get the correct settings for my TV! Keep up the good work! @@GamingTech-TH-cam
@SWRETGdergadrhare all good! Thanks for the comment! I am always looking to make my videos better! Thanks!
This Game is compatible Whit Dolby Vision in Series X. Woooow
What about LG B9 hgig setting? Should I adjust the brightness slider as well?
Same question with LG B3
Anyone using a Bravia x750h? It's a entry level Bravia. Most ps4 games look washed out in HDR mode. Game patches do help most times. I remember AC Odyssey looked horrible till I downloaded the update. It seemed to fix the HDR brightness. Just updated re4. Bout to see what it fixes now.
There is no point in playing in HDR on that TV, because the brightness of the TV is not enough for HDR. Play in SDR, you'll get a better picture!
@@kolosszus87 thanks, Lee Van Cleef. ✌️
Dolby vision?
hey gaming tech i have the cooler master gp27q mini led monitor. Is a true hdr monitor however i can`t view screen shots in hdr using the HDR + WCG Image Viewer APP. When I play the game in hdr it looks the way it`s intended to look but it looks washed out in screenshots.
If I know the nits of my calibrated game mode (660 nits) wouldn't it be better to back off the middle slider position 2 clicks down?
This is on cx.
Game is still very blurry and jaggies even with all lens distortion off on the PS5... So sad I was hoping to enjoy it last night.
Turn of motion blur
Why on earth would anyone use dynamic tone mapping with an HDR game? It's only useful for old SDR content, like old TV shows, and even that's debatable.
BTW, dolbyvision is also bad on both consoles due to their hdmi throughput limits. It will drop chroma resolution; 12bit per channel RBG isn't possible at all.
