Cranston Komuro (Fujiyama) isn't a bad actor at all. he plays the cruel mafia boss well. its just when all these elements are combined they have this insane synergy that comes off like a train wreck.

I would love to read a book about the making of this movie and how fucking hectic and terrible it must have been on set. The best bad movies are always the ones that are made by delusional directors who are completely oblivious to their own incompetence. How much do you want to bet that the director said "just wear the wig, NO ONE will notice!" It's even better when they also try to edit the film themselves lol. I can't imagine being a freelance editor and then getting 6 hours of raw Samurai Cop footage and being told to edit it into a logical, coherent movie.
What I read on IMDB is this: seven months after filming the lead actor assumed filming was complete. He cut his hair short and while he was looking for other work the director called him and said they needed to do some re-shoots. The director was furious that the actor cut his hair and went out to find a wig, apparently a lady’s wig was the best he could do. The actor thought it was ridiculous but under the assumption that they had to do a couple long shots and pick ups he went along with it. He found out however that they still had half the movie to shoot, out of chronological order, much to his dismay. So I would definitely agree that the director was delusional and incompetent. Why would you wait seven months to tell an actor filming isn’t finished? After seven months, I would have moved on with my life too. I hate how he had the nerve to get upset with the actor about cutting his hair. It’s not his fault you didn’t keep him up to date. Either don’t wait seven months to resume filming or keep your actors informed.

I actually took this video and converted it to 2.35:1 aspect ratio, cropping the parts of each shot where there is all this empty space on the top, and color corrected it. I think this movie was meant to be filmed in this aspect ratio, they just couldn’t get anamorphic lenses and shot it with normal lenses and then forgot to crop the frame later on.
