"Quality freshness and cannibalism!" Heh, that actually reminds me of one time I was helping out with a breakfast event. There was a ton of bacon they cooked up that gave up a bunch of grease. One of the older gentlemen there collected it all at the end, and someone asked what he was going to do with all of that. He said he was going to add it to the feed that he fed his pigs with. I couldn't help but remark: "So...we're recycling pigs, essentially?"
11:22 I took a big mouthful of milk when this part came up, and tried so hard not to laugh and choke, so I instead spit-taked about half the milk in my mouth all over my laptop, my garbage can, my shirt, my kitchen table, and my kitchen curtains. Still worth it.
Wonderful post - these originals are crazy. I was a 70s kid so I saw the end of weird creepy era of stuff that was often in educational/school films that would be played to us as kids.
And without Joel's genius and Mike's unique brand of humor all those shorts they've done would have simply vanished into total obscurity never to be laughed at.
This is my number one Christmas DVD to play each Christmas season. When I went to the theatre to watch the live simulcast, it was snowing and the entire audience made it a true Christmas experience. My favorite was that incredibly weird "A Christmas Dream".
Such a great collection of live shorts, but that one takes the cake, or pork, especially with Weird Al doing such an amazing job riffing like he's been doing it for years.
@@wileyschmitt I got to see it on the big screen/live simulcast thing a few years back. 8) Also, didn't he make a guest appearance when they riffed one of the Jurassic Po-- er, Park movies?
@@AmyLSacks Ha! I'm not sure if he's ever riffed with them besides this, but it sure seems like he has, but him being a natural probably shouldn't be too surprising considering how talented he is.

Rarely does adding a guest riffer equate to being much better than the Three Amigos, but it shouldn't surprise me either since Al is so diversely talented.
It really boils down to whether Mike is involved in the writing or not, and it's simply the jokes, the rest can be done however goofy and zany as they want but the feature film has to have good riffing and writing for it to closer to the standard we were spoiled with during most MST3K years. There's a reason why Cinematic Titanic wasn't that good, *whistle whistle* "No Mike" (hope someone gets that reference, but from what I know of msties they will get it pretty quickly).
@@wileyschmitt Yes I recall Cinematic Titanic. Saw a free episode on Amazon Prime once. I...can't even bother to remember which one it was, it was so forgetful. No offense to Joel, lord knows he started the whole thing, it's just Mike added a very necessary quality to the show. An edge so to speak.
@@primepm8861 Exactly, and Joel's creative genius were obviously the most important or nothing would've ever been conceived, but humor, though it comes in many varieties which requires a show like this to need multiple writers, is also rare when it comes to quality. Does it also seem that as the years go on this is getting less and less? I don't seek out newer comedy movies, TV shows, or stand up comedians, but I also surprisingly haven't come across much of anything newer that was particularly funny (aside from maybe Rick and Morty, but look how bad the Simpsons got merely due to changing writers).
@@wileyschmitt People don't tend to realize how difficult good comedy writing is, and to have comedic geniuses like Mike, Bill and Kevin still willing to engage in this material after all these years is a blessing to mankind. I can count on one hand the number of TV shows (and, by proxy, writing) that has directly influenced my life over the last 40 years, but MST3K is one of them for certain.
I don't see why that in Christmas Rhapsody a puny tree would wax poetic over being someone's Xmas tree, only to eventually become organic waste soon after.🌲
