It's interesting that the farmer stopped smoking when Landa had his pipe drawn out. You can see his hand with the pipe almost falling down as if he lowers his guard or gives up (0:21). His small distraction, his cover to look cool has failed. Landa can also play his game but at a higher level. Tarantino described the pipe scene as a male contest ... and Landa's pipe is definitely superior to the farmer's one. Therefore, after defeating the farmer symbolically, Landa doesn't need his pipe anymore and goes to the final blow.
This is such a great scene. Tarantino and waltz idea of the scene was that Landa does not smoke a pipe. He knows that the farmer does so he brings along a Sherlock Holmes pipe to basically flex on the farmer and send a message that he's cracked the case
I'd always been reading the subtitles before and never noticed how sadistically happy Landa was @ 3:17 and the seconds leading up lol dude's eyes are crazy
Slight plothole here. The hiding family speak French and Lander uses the word "Masquerade" while speaking English. This is a loan word from French and thus would be understood by them.
He smokes high quality German cigarettes later in the movie, perhaps the character's crippling nicotine addiction or perhaps it's an interrogation technique
he just throws it no matter where. I Could be a symbol for his politeness just being a masquerade. Similar to the scene where he eats and extinguishes his cigarette in half finished strudel...
Tarantino got the pipe scene wrong; its not a scene about two gay men showing off their penises to one another, with the Nazi character showing his to be larger... It should have been a french cigarette holder being held by Waltz... Quentin was projecting his own subconscious onto the characters by mistake...
Didn't he actually say that Landa doesnt smoke pipes but cigarettes and the Pipe is a nod to Sherlock Holmes, as Landa found him out at this moment, and triumphed with this nod he knew would go over the farmers head
The subtle face change from 1:26 to 1:30 is haunting.

You're right, I haven't notice how farmer had his Pipe down... He knew it, he had lost
"I'm going to switch back to French now, and I want you to follow my masquerade!" - Hah, 'masquerade' is a French word
Inglorious bastards is literally one of the greatest films ever made
If you have a 90 IQ
Not really. The Greatest Story Never Told is.

Could be difficult to understand with a thick accent
Even if they do hear and understand what are they gonna do anyways? Jump out and attack with knives? They are done either way
Nothing beats a pipe
Guys he doesn't smoke the pipe recreationally, its just another level of deception.
isn't all pipe smoking recreational? it's clearly not medicine or food

Dude’s acting sends chills down my spine
Sounded like when he opened the door he said "madame". As to suggest he was pretending to call back the daughter and not spook the people downstairs.
Have the same strambach Calabash pipe, smokes pretty well😊
Beautiful pipe ❗🙂😍👏
What is he saying in french at the end when he switches back from english?
Anyone know what kinda pipe that is I want one😂
Landa was already in a bad mood as the tobacconist didnt have any ludicrously oversized pipes left🤔
Wearing a big hat might feel like having a big pipe, maybe?
Where does he discard the match?

at 2:15 you can see the wooden ash tray between the hat and the farmer's pipe box
@@vanaik do you smell your own farts?
Eternally mogged
Maybe he just likes to toot his own horn
