Nothing tops that 5150 sound. And one of my favorite examples is Mouth of the Abyss by Ingested. Such a good sound. Honorable mention to Heartwork by Carcass.

Idk... Clayman was a blend of a Peavey 5150 and a Marshall (hybrid) amp. In Flames blended amps on all their albums. What else is crazy is Machine Head used the Crunch channel (with a Boss SD-1). So many awesome albums made with those, yet I personally never got along with them.. (Just the Butcher and XXXII.)
Anyone tryed Valveking for something more melodical, with sharp background available? With that green monkey and decent equalizer. Its cheap as fuck, an work wonders.
That was EVH tho but hell yeah, that and Magma are some of my favorite EVH tones. Also I know they’re divisive for some metal heads but turnstile has great tone on the last two records and I believe it’s a 5150 and dual rec blended.

Someone beat me to it but yeah It's been well known MachineHead use 5150's. They were one of the 1st metal bands back in 1994 to use them. Robb has used his early 90's block letter Peavey 5150 named "Bubba" as his main tone on every single MH head record.
Fun fact: White Bat (which you had in your rectifier video like this) was tracked with the same 5150 II with a precision drive! My old band tracked at the same studio, shout out Al at Warrior Sound!
I hated the 6505... lots of power but lost top end at the 666 method. Could be cause mine was used but the 5150 gen 1 sounded wayyyy superior... like the crankenstine v1 vs all the rest of the models.
@@Hadouken5150 now that you mention it... v2 is rarely worse than v1... i think about terminator 2 as an example. maybe i should have suck it out and traded it in for a v2 6505...
@@drewg1981 6505+ is definitely the better of the two. If you want the 5150 sound check out the 6505+ or any of the EVH 5150 IIIs. To my ears the 6505+ sounds a bit more raw, less refined than the 5150 III. I have both and love both.
@@Hadouken5150 well I was cutting my teeth just before the nu metal phenomenon started.. so circa 1999-2002 somewhere in there. At that point solid state was all the rage... everyone and their mother seemed like they were rocking Randall or Marshall... somewhere in there was some hybrids. I personally used a warhead on a and on b I ran the rh200 cause I liked its clean tone. It was the lesser of the two and the cheaper made amp... but man I loved that thing. It was was my go to till I loaned it to a tech for his show. He worked it off... the hazing was real....

I have 6505+ combo that I Swapped out the stock sheffield for a V30. Had an extra V30, so I built an extention cab out of some 3/4" knotty pine lumber, based on size specs of the 6505+ combo cab and slapped the extra V30 in that. Was a bit bright until I added a bit of foam to sides and back wall. The Oversized 1x12" really does a great job at bringing that low end out without muddling up the highs. Sounds great all said and done. And created my own bit of Tone Magick. I'm going to get a couple of IR's out of this set up at least.

Yeah they are using peavey but are in studio so gain pedals, compressor eq tweak etc… not knocking peavey by any means. Peavey makes great amps

Depends what genre you’re going for. 5150 II was the better amp between the two Peaveys. EVH 5150 III is pretty amazing as well.
