Didn’t Crete put out a video a while ago saying to accept all loads even if you didn’t think you could make it? Reason I bring this up is how many times do you reject a load before there are negative repercussions? I don’t drive for Crete but I’ve had my eye on them for about a yr now, currently I only make 54 cpm but I do well over 3k miles a week, 12-14k a month so I still make out ok, plus I don’t have to deal with check lists or alarms in the truck so aside from running hard all the time it’s a peaceful place to work, aside from the pay are there any other reasons that you think someone in my position should switch to crete? Ps. Sorry if that message isn’t very uniformed or put together correctly
@@mikemartin6678 Yes…Tim Aschoff mentioned it in a recent weekly update. He said to accept the load and then call your asset manager. Kevin has done it the other way around sometimes. Only if the offered load is really ridiculous. He had received company communication to do that a few months back. He’s only done it maybe a couple times a month. There’s been no repercussions. But obviously they had to be really bad. No one should be a Primadonna, especially with the market as it is. Sounds like you’re making decent money because you get a lot miles. Here you would start at at least 60cpm but increase over time, plus quarterly bonuses, paid vacation, profit sharing after a year. So don’t know how the money would look compared to your present situation. Other than the money what Kevin likes here is that it’s a debt free, family owned business with good customers. I followed your path from Werner and used your referral code when I signed on with Crete. Last month I jacknifed after losing traction in a rainstorm and getting blown by a strong wind gust. I had been with Crete 6 months and with Werner for 10 without incident. After a few days in a motel I was informed that my safety clearance was terminated. I'm blessed to have plenty of other options in life aside from trucking. Decided to go back to school for my MBA and pursuing a career in finance and data analytics. The OTR company I drove for I was a heavy haul driver. We use to pick up Telecommunications shelters for cellular phones out of Bossier City, Louisiana to a crane yard in Portland , Maine . Those were some good paying loads. One time I hauled a building, which is short for telecommunication shelters to Maine , dropped it off at a crane yard. Then they dead headed me to Millinocit , Maine to pick up a set of tracks for a skid steer , all the way back to Winnfield, Louisiana. Like I said earlier I got paid percentage. That load paid me $ 5,000 dollars.
Wow!!! We are always very impressed with the heavy haulers. Amazing what you guys can do!!!! I’d say that was pretty good money at the time!!! Good for you! 😃👍

Hello Kevin, I’m from pgh pa and I only drive NE and it’s notorious for sleeping drivers in the center lane. It drives me up the wall, once I pass them I glance over and they are playing on phone, got the leg leg up on dash etc. Aggravating
He has alcohol wiles if it’s really needed. But we’re used to camping. Two days don’t phase us. We’d rather spend the $20 on something else, especially if we/he can get a free shower the next day.
Good job Kevin and good job rolling with it as well. There's a new loves in Willington Connecticut not far from the Holland Massachusetts drop yard. And I've been that I'm paper Bill there as well and like you said there's almost no truck stops all up in there
Good planing both about rush hour traffic and onward load to make money. You are quite a Smart Guy and can make good plans, especially with Loads. In the Uk sometimes I had to find a Return Load from Scotland to London and I had a list of phone numbers to call and get fixed up, Luckily not too often as normally had a Contract Load to pickup. Seems as though it's not so good up North!! Phew I hope you can get a Shower soon.😷😂
I would definitely not recommend this company to anyone out there, i quit my job at werner to come here, i drove 700 miles from fontana to salt lake city to attend their orientation, on Wednesday the final day of orientation right before they were about to assign my truck they notify me they are sending me home because i have 2 minor preventables on my record (gate and a stop sign) from my first week of driving, i made sure to tell the recruiter beforehand and even safety about these accidents yet they sent me here anyways, stay far away from this company they are just like any other mega carrier out there who pretends to care about you
WOW! We are so sorry to hear your experience!!!! That is really terrible! Sad to say that we have heard from another viewer a few months ago who had the same thing happen to him. It appears that Safety gives the ok and then someone higher up says no because of the infraction. But that’s not cool. You already quit your job and put time in. They should make a final decision before you come to orientation. We hope you find another carrier that will be happy to take you. You have good experience having driven for Werner. Our friend Clydesdale drives for Leonard’s Express (reefer) and is very happy with them. You can check out his channel. youtube.com/@thedale2112
@@primelogic7077 We share our experience. Everyone makes their own decisions, based on their own research and priorities. What happened to this driver is very sad. As is your comment.
Middle lane, the Smith System almost encourages it, they even have a fancy name for it. They call it “The Lane of Least Resistance” or something like that. I’m old, my memory isn’t what it was. 😊
Didn’t say ‘can’t’. Saying that he has free showers at certain truck stop chains and those aren’t nearby. Also…everyone has different priorities on how they want to spend their money. We don’t want to spend $15-$20 on something we can get for free the next day. And…we’re used to camping, so two days without a shower doesn’t phase us. 😁
Hey. Yes. Sorry. He was in a big hurry. He had it as a fuel stop and added in a shower already, so he was pressed for time. But please don’t let that deter you next time. 😉😁
Yea me and him pulled into a parking spot next to each other I was standing in front of my truck but I didn’t know if it was him or not at first …. Was going to say hi but he just nodded his head and ran inside lol
Shaffer called me and said do not refuse a load. You won’t make money that way. That is not true from what you said .It’s sad that they don’t pay layovers like Marten 250 for one day 350 on weekends
Wow! Good for Marten drivers!!! Interesting they told you that. 🤔🤔🤔We’d still say, if it doesn’t work well for using your time productively call your Asset Manager and see if you can come up with a better use of your HOS. With reefer it could be more difficult. We assume you have a lot of appointments. So that could be an issue. 🤔🤔🤔
I’m from Western MA but I tend to spend more time driving in the west coast though because I hate driving the truck in the east coast. I never heard of Love’s until I started trucking. I only know one Pilot in MA. I saw a moose in northern Utah a couple weeks ago though 😃
When i was OTR and they offered me those loads, I'd ask for a tcall and then keep moving with another load. I drive for the same company but got off the road last January for a home nightly gig.

I sometimes run into the same problem with showers. I did get a gym membership at planet fitness to fix that issue. They have them all over the country. It also gives me something to do on my time not driving or my reset. Keep up the good work.
@@ThatOneGuy-hp2pb Yeah. We’re on the fence about it. I think it might be easier if drivers are on dedicated lanes and can figure out a few regular stops where they feel confident about being able to get in and out safely with the truck. Would be really nice though.
Had a similar issue in Maine. Went to pickup at a seafood distributor after dropping off at a fresh food market in Boston. Boston was horrible to park in, even at the market. Maine was worse. And like you said, no TA or LUVS to get a shower at. Was very happy to get out that area. Unfortunately I had to go to NY, just outside of the city, with the load from Maine😢.

How did you like “little Somalia”? I grew up in Maine and it is no longer the wonderful state I grew up in. Did you go through Portland? It looks like parts of Minnesota!
the company can also think along, okay the cargo should only be delivered in a few days, and our driver will then be stopped for 4 days, if we let him collect the cargo and bring it to point b, then he can take another trailer from there for a new load so that we keep our drivers busy, because standing still is not making $$$$
My company gets me home on weekends but I'm only getting about 2k miles a week at $0.60 a mile. I gotta get my miles up or my cpm up or im gonna have to get a new job. Studying for tanker and doubles endorsements
That’s definitely not sufficient. We know they recently lowered starting cpm at Crete. So it’s 60cpm for 21 day out. But drivers will get closer to 3000 miles. Makes a serious difference. And the bonuses and profit sharing adds up when you stay a few years. But, it’s also nice to be home every weekend. With Tanker you could probably stay closer to home and make better money. Let us know how it goes! Good luck!

Kev….you need a microphone 🎤🎤 this was hard to hear even with our volume up all the way…funny you and my hubs think a lot alike about being productive…..
With 6 months you would still go out with a trainer. At 8 months with experience from certain carrier you don’t need a trainer anymore. Full pay with one year experience. If you come in earlier they pay a bit less but then bump it up to the proper rate when you hit total driving experience one year.
We think there’s a difference between complaining and proactive trip planning, communicating, maximizing. But you are right. Shouldn’t do it too often and certainly should be realistic, consider current market and not be a Primadonna. 🤩
Kevin is on OTR out minimum 21 days. He gets 1 day off for every six days out. So he often chooses to stay out 24 days and then take 4 days home time. But sometimes he stays out longer. Longest he’s stayed out was about 7 weeks.
@@smidkiff70 Yes. Indeed. Though I’m not always out with him. Also…he runs on resets. So he usually drives his 70 hours in 6 days and then takes a reset on the seventh day. Those count as ‘days out.’
@@wilE6764 We don’t know if Kevin would “have the right.” So far he has on rare occasion turned down loads if they were ‘unproductive’ for his HOS. And that actually exists as an option on the ELD. He has never turned down a load due to location. With Crete he’s only been in NYC that one time. The company saw the video and contacted him saying that their drivers should not be put in situations like that. They plan to make changes though we don’t know what that means. Maybe day-cab or insist on different delivery time? Most likely Kevin would not turn down a load if they give him one to NYC. If he really didn’t want to go he would have to speak with his asset manager. We don’t know how that would play out. That’s the best answer I can give you. They care about their drivers, so I can’t imagine they’d force him. But…OTR is for all 48. So theoretically a driver on that account should be willing to go anywhere.
Why isn't Crete better managing your loads so you don't have to waste time sitting around, why do you have to take the lead to get them to do their jobs??? Like you said down time not only cost you money but them too. C'mon Crete, take better care of this guy.
Thanks for your support. 🥰But honestly…freight has slowed industry wide. They do sometimes send ridiculous loads that we think are based on geography rather than time. But as you see, Kevin works with dispatch and they can come up with better solutions together. But, overall, we are very grateful they keep us running as they do when there really are a lot of companies where drivers are hardly getting any miles. It’s very sad.
Yeah. I love my job because I never run east or west or south. We mostly run midwest and upper midwest. Of course, I live in Ohio. I run between Ohio and Nebraska...OH, IN, IL, IA, NE, SD, MN, WI, MO, KS. That's it. Flat land, no real traffic, except Indianapolis and Chicago. No mountains too. Scenery, mostly farmland; but it is very easy to travel point A to point B with no slowdowns nearlyevery day and earn max miles and max dollars. I have sworn off the east especially after years of running the PA turnpike in winter, dealing with bumper-bumper traffic all day, and constant stop/go traffic along I-95 and other lanes east. My best friend runs from Sidney, Ohio to Laredo, Texas dedicated every week. Between all the congestion in all the major cities along his route and the triple digit temps all summer, he is pretty miserable; but he is home every weekend. Eh. One of my favorite aspects of my job doing long-haul is the back to back line-up of loads I get every friday. They set me up every friday with 3 loads to run me until Monday, usually drop and hooks. Weekends are a breeze. When you get your fill of seeing all 48, you might want to look into dedicated at Crete. All best. Oh, another thing I'll add is that because my running region is so small, I go to the same places alot. I have identified most my fav stops for sleep, fuel, food. And, I rarely even need my gps because I have memorized my routes and most my customers. The routine of it minimizes unpleasant surprises and helps me navigate my days so easily. I rarely trip plan because I have also memorized mileage and fueling for each run. Gives me alot of freedom, less stress. People might think it is boring. It is not. It is relaxing. I know what to expect every day. It is like a regular job. No unanticipated wrenches thrown into the gears every day. Bliss. Hugs.

He has alcohol wiles if it’s really needed. But we’re used to camping. Two days don’t phase us. We’d rather spend the $20 on something else, especially if we/he can get a free shower the next day.
Good job Kevin.. good info
👍👍👍
Good job Kevin and good job rolling with it as well. There's a new loves in Willington Connecticut not far from the Holland Massachusetts drop yard. And I've been that I'm paper Bill there as well and like you said there's almost no truck stops all up in there
Thanks for that tip!!!!
He is not lying about Loves up here in Mass. There is no Loves, just crappy truck stops.
Yup... No Love's. But luckily a lot of LOVE. :-)

Being from Massachusetts and doing oversized locally for 5 years, everything you have said is true lol.

You should sue Kevin for lost wages, pain and suffering, for encouraging you to leave werner....

Seriously? Kevin’s Salary last year was in the top 1% which is twice the average driver pay and can’t pay $15 for a Shower? 😢
Kevin enjoyed the video very much. Some very good pointers. Stay safe.😊😊😊😊

Well idk if your still in mechanicsburg pa at the terminal but I was going to say hi to Kevin but he seemed to be in a hurry lol
Hey. Yes.
Nice Video

Shaffer called me and said do not refuse a load. You won’t make money that way. That is not true from what you said .It’s sad that they don’t pay layovers like Marten 250 for one day 350 on weekends
Wow! Good for Marten drivers!!! Interesting they told you that. 🤔🤔🤔We’d still say, if it doesn’t work well for using your time productively call your Asset Manager and see if you can come up with a better use of your HOS. With reefer it could be more difficult. We assume you have a lot of appointments. So that could be an issue. 🤔🤔🤔
In that area, Maine, NH, there's only one place that is available. The TA in NH but yeah paying for a shower!

When i was OTR and they offered me those loads, I'd ask for a tcall and then keep moving with another load. I drive for the same company but got off the road last January for a home nightly gig.
Yes! Exactly!!! That’s what we ended up doing. What do they have at Crete for home daily? Do you enjoy it?
I used your ref code when I applied to Crete. I got accepted and will begin training next week in Lenoir City. Thanks for covering this subject. I wondered how that worked at Crete.
How wonderful! Congratulations! And thank you so much for using our code! We really appreciate that!!! Really helps support the channel. We are happy to share what we learn to help other drivers. @@TheJoyofTrucking Thanks Kevin! I will be i touch! Safe travels!
I sometimes run into the same problem with showers. I did get a gym membership at planet fitness to fix that issue. They have them all over the country. It also gives me something to do on my time not driving or my reset. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Do you usually find truck parking?
@@TheJoyofTruckingno, it's not practical
@@ThatOneGuy-hp2pb Yeah. We’re on the fence about it. I think it might be easier if drivers are on dedicated lanes and can figure out a few regular stops where they feel confident about being able to get in and out safely with the truck. Would be really nice though.
@@TheJoyofTrucking true!
When I drove OTR in the 80's, you could not turn down a load from your dispatcher. Nice change to be able to decline a load nowadays.
Depends on the company. Crete is very reasonable but drivers shouldn’t overdo it either. 😆😆😆Best to communicate and help problem solve.

Love the videos. I’m going through the hiring process with Crete and used your referral code. I’d love to hear what your favorite truck is you’ve had so far between the freightliner, Kenny rigs, and the Peterbilt. I would think the brand new kenworth would be the best out of all of them simply because it’s brand new, but I could be wrong

Always bring some dude wipes :) definitely helps on day 4 in between showers, lol.

Rochester NH here...what part of Maine did you go to.?
Lewiston. 🤩
How did you like “little Somalia”? I grew up in Maine and it is no longer the wonderful state I grew up in. Did you go through Portland? It looks like parts of Minnesota!
Didn’t go through Portland. Interesting parallel. Strange that so many relocation programs didn’t consider climate. 🤔
the company can also think along, okay the cargo should only be delivered in a few days, and our driver will then be stopped for 4 days, if we let him collect the cargo and bring it to point b, then he can take another trailer from there for a new load so that we keep our drivers busy, because standing still is not making $$$$
We agree!!!!!
Where in Maine did you deliver? Safe travels Kevin.
Just North of Portland. A town named Lewiston.
My company gets me home on weekends but I'm only getting about 2k miles a week at $0.60 a mile. I gotta get my miles up or my cpm up or im gonna have to get a new job. Studying for tanker and doubles endorsements
sounds like a part time job...i only want to sit when i'm at home....
Good luck!
@@rollawy they don't let me use split sleeper either so if im waiting 4 hours at a shipper I can't take 3 hours of that and count it towards my break then take another 7 later. So I have to re-rest 3 hours. Wasting my time mfers.
That's some good tips. As far as shower's you can get a planet fitness membership since they are everywhere. When I get my CDL later on I plan on doing that. That way I will always have the chance to take a shower.
Brian Hall from Maverick LLC glass division is the king of using Planet Fitness and avoiding truck stops.

@@jordan6770 Glad you found the proper answer! And we appreciate your follow-up comment!!!
How much experience we need to work for Crete ?
With 6 months you would still go out with a trainer. At 8 months with experience from certain carrier you don’t need a trainer anymore. Full pay with one year experience. If you come in earlier they pay a bit less but then bump it up to the proper rate when you hit total driving experience one year.
If you refuse a load you will sit.take what they give you and don't complain.
We think there’s a difference between complaining and proactive trip planning, communicating, maximizing. But you are right. Shouldn’t do it too often and certainly should be realistic, consider current market and not be a Primadonna. 🤩
There’s a TA IN NEW HAMPSHIRE ON 95
👍👍👍🤩
Kevin, on average, how long are you out at a time before you get home time?
Kevin is on OTR out minimum 21 days. He gets 1 day off for every six days out. So he often chooses to stay out 24 days and then take 4 days home time. But sometimes he stays out longer. Longest he’s stayed out was about 7 weeks.
@TheJoyofTrucking Holy cow, that's a long time! But having a companion in the truck helps a ton, im sure!
@@smidkiff70 Yes. Indeed. Though I’m not always out with him. Also…he runs on resets. So he usually drives his 70 hours in 6 days and then takes a reset on the seventh day. Those count as ‘days out.’
If they would've said there's a load out of Nyc would you have to take it?
😆😆😆🤦♀️Thank goodness they didn’t ask. That would require a lot of thought.
@TheJoyofTrucking would you have the right to refuse though is my question?
Have you ever hauled sail boat fuel????? Lol
Yes indeed! 😁🌬️💨
You're not in Maine until you are North of Augusta 😊
😆😆😆😆🤩
You’re wearing a Schaefer hat
Yup…when Kevin finished orientation that’s all they had. 😆😆😆
Bliss.
Hugs.
