  • Approximately 30 years after the United States won the War for Independence, she found herself embroiled in another war with Great Britian. The War of 1812 secured the permanence of the United States and brought us lasting traditions of patriotism such as the “Star-Spangled Banner” and Uncle Sam. It also foreshadowed the most divisive event the nation would ever face-the Civil War. Join us and guest speaker Christopher Lese from Marquette University High School as we discuss how this lesser-known war laid the groundwork for events that would challenge and change the course of a nation.

The war of 1812 is really a fascinating struggle that is glossed over in our history. Right up until ww2 it was a huge part of midwest history and heritage. My own family faught at Lake Erie with Oliver Hazard Perry and we still have relics past down to remember it.
