From what I've seen, people tend to pick up their chis to protect them, and coddle them a lot. We don't do this with most dogs, and they learn to be brave. If we teach a dog it can't cope and reinforce fear, it will be a scared dog.
I honestly felt bad for Alison… I also have a rescue pup, so it makes since that she was scared. The little day bed is a perfect idea! Glad that Victoria reminded them to never make a bed a form of punishment! Walks and toys are definitely important, so its good that walks are enforced!
My dog hides under furniture quite often. Whenever he is scared or left in the room alone, he hides. He doesn’t shake but he is definitely afraid of something.
Is your dog a rescue dog? Your dog may have been abused before or maybe you have a ghost in the house. Give lots of reassuring, hugs and belly, rubs, and lots of TLC to your dog.
Chihuahuas love a lil place to snuggle and hide, my chihuahuas love these little cave beds or to hide under covers. They need lots of attention and reassurance and stimulation and exercise in order to feel safe 🥰 these little dogs are so misunderstood, they really are the sweetest little babies 🤍
My chihuahua only hides under furniture if there is a bad storm ... or the one time we stayed at a friend's house and they had some loud shutter/door thing on the roof that kept crashing against the wall. Didn't blame her, if I hadn't known in advance that that suckered was going to bang against the building if it came unlatched I would have been under the desk with her
Check out thunder-jackets. Or you can try a snug sweater too. The feeling of surrounding warmth can be comforting for them. We’ve also had good luck with hemp chews. As soon as we know there’s a storm on the way, we give the chews. Because once the storm hits, she can be too anxious to eat anything.
Bringing home a chihuahua pup very soon. Maybe even tomorrow. Luckily shes well used to people, kids and being handled. Shes so sweet, calm, and fell asleep in my lap. Cnt wait for her to become playmates with my cat

Does anybody have any advice for me? I have a aggressive, disobedient, none food/toy motivated German shepherd, we don’t know how we can control him, he’s bitten two people we live across from a massive strip of free land, and when we try to get out of the house he goes to get to the grass, he has to cross a road to get to it so we are worried he would bite a dog or a human (he’s aggressive to both, we had to take our small dog to the vet because they got in a fight) and it takes us hours to catch him, he never responds to any commands other than sit shake drop (lay down) and give (drop the toy) we no longer know what to do as we love him and want to keep him, but we just don’t know what to do, our other dog, Happy is not totally innocent though, he barks all the time and Max does to (the German shepherd) we have them both barking for around 10 minutes and when they finally stop, they hear something else and continue barking, it’s endless and on top of all that he is so protective of us! He barks at anyone who tries to come into the house! Or even inside the wall of the gates, someone walks past he and happy bark again! We don’t know what to do any more. He’s also impossible to walk him, he always pulls we have to use a nose puller for when he pulls, I’m scared he will pull me over on a walk, he pulled my mother over she ended up in hospital he dislocated her shoulder and tore her rotator cuff off.
You need to get a professional for help NOW. I know you love your dog but he is dangerous. @@NikkieRoxxx That’s why you *train* them, and thats exactly what the commenter is asking about. You’ve no right to insult someone and then demand they give away their dogs. If this person wants to keep their dogs, let them be. Simply because a task seems difficult, doesn’t mean they should immediately give up. Training takes time to learn
You seriously need to neuter your dogs. Make sure this doesn’t happen again. And rehome some of them to responsible owners that can train them. Not fair on your dogs they are stressed.
You have too many dogs that you can't handle. Each dog needs 1 on 1 training. I recommend finding a dog trainer near you that uses positive reinforcement (no cruelty), getting all the dogs fixed, and maybe rehoming some if the first two steps are too much.
One of the best things to do with a neurotic chi, is to get 3 more very little dogs. Finally, they feel normal. No longer are they this tiny lone creature, tired of dodging huge humans, dodging booted feet, seeing huge dogs, even massive cats... Once there are 3 or 4, they have a busy, bossy, often noisy family. They learn not to be fussy about food, not to be a shivering drama queen, because someone else will eat your dinner, if you don't. If you sit like a drama queen, on your own, the other 3 rush off having fun and you miss out. It's like coming from a big, noisy Italian family, instead of being an only child of a really dominant over protective mother. 3 or 4 cost very little, as chi's, unless there is a major health scare. Of course, you aren't buying from a breeder, but adopting, so costs are not high. Similarly, when 4 chi's go for a walk, on coupled leads; go to a quiet beach, again, it's like the local big Italian family turn up. It's all noisy yelling and dogs wanting different things... They are so happy being in a family, where they feel normal and they can laugh at the big clumsy hulks that love them...
They were complaining about her barking and your suggesting to get 3 or 4 more yapping dogs? Not everyone wants a big Italian family living with them making all that noise 😒 🙄. Maybe some training will help instead, rather than get in over your head with a bunch of dogs.
This is extremely bad advice. You should never get more dogs if your dog has problems. The problems need to be worked on before you add any more dogs to the mix. Allison is a lovely dog, just scared. She needs one on one confidence training and socialisation to become more confident and happy. She might not even like other dogs or be scared of them. Potential friends can be added later if the dog has improved
