    Great choice, your skiff seems to get up on plane nice. How did you manage to get electric tilt with the tiller for the Yamaha? In the US it seems to only be available with remote option…

      Depends in numerous factors including dry weight of boat, trim set and wet weight (including all bags in boat etc..). A 40 hp on a jon boat goes much faster than on a 16 ft boat. Also, it depends whether the boat is rivited or welded. Rivited boats are quite a bit lighter.

      It also depends whether it's 2 or 4 stroke. 2 strokes are lighter than 4 strokes and can attain higher speed and rpm. They are also lighter, but less fuel efficient. However, both have evolved quite a bit and are in high demand.

      Please, I need to know prop size. Mine has 15 and seems to underperform. Total weight, boat, engine and passengers is 550kg.

    Hello mate,
    Any reviews or advice on the Yamaha F50?
    Unsure whether to put the F40 or F50 on my new boat. $800 extra for the 50

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey sorry for the late reply. F50 is a 4cyl so more capacity which equals torque although I was really impressed with how well the 3cyl F40 went. It’s a lot lighter as well which will be a consideration if you are going with the tiller version. I like to always go max HP for the boat when possible which is important with the yammies if you plan on running a heavy boat as they don’t have a super strong hole shot. Great reliable engine though.

    Are you hapy with engine,and how much is fuel consume? because my plan is to bay same engine like this 30hp?thank you

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've only recently fitted it however first impressions are very good. It runs very quiet and smoothly. Power delivery is typical fourstroke but still quite strong strong. Fuel consumption seemed good but as expected (it used 10-12 litres over 2 hours at varying speeds from idle to full throttle). The tiller design is great - one of the best around.

      Will she turn up to 6400 rpms

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I don't think so and it didn't feel or sound like it was spinning that high? I think the limiter is set around the 6,000rpm mark from memory and if it was hitting the limiter it must be a soft one because you couldn't feel it come in if it did.

    • @bradcordrey4727
      @bradcordrey4727 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can take out one piece and that motor turns up like 6400 and it will flat go

    notice any difference between this and the merc 4 stroke?

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert tophan the Yamaha was smoother and quiete. Much better tillerr handle also.

    • @roberttophan9314
      @roberttophan9314 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Hall was the Yamaha faster as well?

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert tophan yep by about 9 kph on a bigger boat although the Merc was only a 30 so not unexpected

    • @roberttophan9314
      @roberttophan9314 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Hall would you go with this or the merc in 40 HP?

    • @SimonH2O
      @SimonH2O  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert tophan I'd go with the Yamaha. I've owned the current 40 Merc (was a new motor) and it had some quality issues (paint peeling off) that I attributed to it being made in china. Performance was line ball with the Yamaha 40
