I’ve noticed this for a little while now gabbys saddle looks a little far back on chino I think a you guys should look into a breastplate it will hold her saddle in place also I would recommend boots for chino and fin since they jump higher they could get hurt easier when jumping so it’s always good to be safe just recommendations in my opinion but you guys are awesome and I love y’all a videos!!
You CAN NOT shorten a horses stride in two point, you have to sit in the saddle. Gabby should learn to count her strides that means canter from one point to another. First ride a distance of 5 strides , then same distance shorten to 6 strides. With just rails on the ground. If I had to I would climb on the horse to demonstrate how to do it. Several weeks just working on the flat, working on supplying him learning how to adjust his body and his stride. She is not helping Chino galloping over those jumps with out learning how to make those adjusting in strides. When a horse crashes through a fence is not good for the horses confidence. Any pain a horse feels over a jump must be taken seriously. We ask them, they trust us, we must help them get to fence and over it safely. She does not know how to get her distance. And as far as changing a lead over a fence it is done in the air. If you want the left lead over the fence tip the horses nose to the left so you can see his eye abit, the right leg goes back behind the girth pressing for the left lead. The light weight of your right seat cheek is pressing to the left. This will represent the eye the horse ' this all represent the horses body ) this will be your right leg back , Now this will show you the position of the horse and rider in the air over the fence to cue for that left lead. '), and just reverse for the right lead ,(' This is also the way to ask for the correct lead by tipping eye, putting your seat in the saddle and using your leg back of the girth pushing the horse in to the canter. Gabby needs to learn these skills to help Chino. I hear this recycle thing I have no idea what the heck that means but I don't think Gabby is getting enough verbal instruction with what she has to do with her body to help find the distance for Chino. When a horse canters it is the inside hind leg that starts the canter. By putting the weight of your seat on the opposite side of the lead leg you your freeing up that side of your horse to get that lead. Maybe some basic dressage lessons would help her. Chino was taking fences very well when she got him. Each lesson should be an improvement for the horse and the rider should have a better understanding to help the horse. I just don't hear any clear instruction to achieve any of these positions. Sometimes we have to ride under different instructors to gain a better understanding of what to do and how to achieve it. Anytime I felt I've gotten a rider to a certain point and no farther I was always glad to refer them to someone who could help them reach their goals. Instructors become close friends with students and their families, we all have the love of the horse in our hearts that for sure.
Yes you can. Watch top show jumpers, they can control the strides even if they are not sitting completely in the saddle. But it takes a lot of practice and the horse needs to be trained well. And the rider needs to understand how to use the seat properly and ofc first you need to know how to do it while sitting down. I agree that there is no point in jumping related distances if you can't control the length of the canter. And I agree that some dressage lessons would not do harm. First you need to learn to control the canter in flat, and now Gabby obviously can't do it well enough. And it's totally okay, but they should not be jumping until it's under control. It can be very dangerous to just shoot for the jump and hope for the best. The basics are so important!
@@nallepuh2260 thanks for telling me it can be done in a half seat but like you say both horse and rider must be experienced at adjusting their stride. Maybe another way to help Gabby find her seat and feel the horse under her is to first learn to tell which hind leg is hitting the ground at a walk , then trot. Calling out right or left as it hits the ground. Best way to feel it is to sit in the saddle and let your seat and each cheek feel the rhythm of the hindquarters. Having ridden hunseat and jumped in my yearly years as every thing goes this half seat is something that has evolved in the show ring? I am days away from 70 but having a passion for horse in all events, We have been lucky seeing in person Eric Lamaze and world class Olympic rides at the World Equestrian Games in 2010. And I loved going to the warm up area and watching these amazing riders warm their horses up. We know how important the seat is in taking any fence big or small especially when laying the foundation for a horse to learn to jumping what ever the discipline. Thanks again for your comments cuz I think we know that Chino is a lovely horse that came with some good basic jumping skills and he might be regressing in his approach to the jumps. She should be taking lesson with Brandon. If you watch Chino with Brandon on him on the flat and over a few jumps you will see how Chino was ridden in a proper frame on the flat and over a few jumps. It's called trainer riding my new horse. RIDE ON RIDE SAFE😉
she just needs to learn two point and a light seat and a deep seat. she’s always in her two point while getting lighter and closer to the saddle will adjust the horse in hunters. They’re biggest worry is going to be his muscle tone and weight. But they aren’t doing the correct things to fix them hence why finn and storm have ewe necks. I do agree with the instructor thing, i usually have no idea what she’s talking about
Watching it in slow mode you can see him swap leads in the middle of the jump 1 and 2, and at jump 2 he tried switching back and that's when he knocked the whole jump over. But yes he was going too fast. Good recovery gabby! And staying calm through it!
they’re really coming along! as soon as he quits blowing her off (which will come with time as they get to know each other) they’ll be flying over everything. excited to see them develop as a team
He's starting to come together super nicely! I can already seem him beginning to muscle up, and he's SO shiny now! I can't wait to see him in a few months, he's going to look like a whole new horse.
Good thing shes Ok! Probably many more to come. Its ok! Things happen, we just have to be prepared! Hes pretty big and bouncy! Reminds me of my old ottb! Sadly he passed away a few days ago, he was 25, a rescue, and tired. At least now he won't suffer in the feild.
Maybe next time instead of buying a new saddle pad or halter, you could get some jump boots instead. They’re not as fun to shop for, but will really protect his legs. At the very least, a set of polo wraps would be better than nothing. And you can get them to match your riding outfits!
Gabby’s jumping is pretty rough.. i think she should learn the basics of jumping ( counting the strides etc.) before jumping bigger jumps. just some advice, no hate :)
fiona was saying not to give any rein when she jumps but you are supposed to give a release so the horse can do its thing without tripping , slinging you etc.
What I took from it is that Gabby was putting her hands too far forward and completely losing contact with Chino’s mouth, so as much as you don’t want to restrict the horses movement, you also just don’t want to throw the reins at them either 😊
I love how confident Gabby always come across on the videos it really helps improve my confident by just watching her ride. Sophie's confidence is getting better by the day as well. She has more confidence then me if I fall off I overthink getting back on instead of just doing it 🤷. All your horses are beautiful..I have two palominos 💜. Also your a great mum very supportive in what they do 😊 xx
Both of them are going great! He is really starting to fill out and his coat looks much healthier! Although, Gabby you need to sit in the saddle and not lean so far forward. Leaning forward puts the horses on their forehand which is the opposite of what you want when jumping. You need him to be on his hind end to push off of the ground and get a good jump. And for Gabby to do that, she needs to sit in the saddle before the jump and balance him, putting him on his hind quarters and lean farther back so she doesn’t put him on his forehand. Trust me I’ve been through this very same thing before. I’ve fallen off many times because of it haha! It feels weird at first but will help you in the long run. I can’t wait to see more of Chino!!
Yeah watching horses. Miss step their distances is a little scary. I seen a couple horses do it myself. I've really never had that problem. Luckily. Thank God. I've definitely been thrown off approaching jumps many times, so That was actually a big save on Chino's part.
I was waiting for you guys to upload and was watching the old videos on your channel it was so cute to see little Gabby and Sofie and how far they have come in there riding
I definitely have to agree about the jump boots. Open front jumping boots are designed protect the horses delicate tendons, while still allowing the horse to feel it if they happen to hit a rail with their front legs. This encourages the horse to pick up their front legs. This is only a suggestion. Great job Gabby!
Okay, so this trainer had to of said the word “recycle” over ten times. Can someone please explain to me what it means..? Reduce, reuse, recycle, baby 😂💀
It happens sometimes that you don’t get the stride and crash into the jump. All part of learning. Chino is very different than the horses Gabby has ridden before and she has to learn how to bring him back or lengthen him,to get her spots. With a big body and a long stride he isn’t handy like Finn. Finn, and even Storm, will add in a short little stride if needed when they get a bad spot. Chino can’t do that. His normal way of getting out of trouble is to launch from a long spot. Lots and lots of practice over poles, riding lines over poles, lengthening and shortening the strides, etc will help Gabby learn how to adjust his gangly body. It will come.
Mistakes happen, but bottom line Gabby didn't fall off and Chino didn't get hurt. She kept calm and did it again and it was great! I would like to see some leg protection though... it's so simple and can really provide a lot of protection just in case.
Great job gabby and chino. I know you aren't use to a bouncy horse yet but bouncy is great for jumping! 😉 Keep up the great work and Please take care of your horses legs and tendons and use jumping boots when you jump! I know you have them so please use them before something seriously happens. I would HATE to see something awful happen.
Great recovery Gabby. On the narrower build horses like Chino, a no slip pad for under the saddle will really help with any saddle sliding! We use no slip pads under our show pads, they are super super thin almost like paper and they just prevent the saddle from slipping! Is it just me or is Gabby getting taller?! Her stirrups suggest she has grown!
1. His saddle is way two far back 2.gabby needs to learn to count her strides when jumping 3.if she feels he’s not picking up his feet she really needs to push with her seat but atm she needs to learn how to sit the canter.
That’s bound to happen at times, even to the most experienced people, the most important thing is learning from it, so understanding why it happened and then working on preventing it from happening again 😊 Chino does tend to rush his fences a little and take a stride out and in this instance he changed leads in between, wasn’t paying attention to Gabby and got in a bit of a muddle, sounded and looked worse than it actually was, but never nice to see. I’d definitely get Gabby in to the habit of using the boots she has for Chino, I know not everyone agrees with boots but in my view no point in risking an overreach or leg injury. You might find as he gets fitter that he doesn’t overreach so much either. I also appreciate that most canter work is done in light seat where you are and the reasons why, but I do wonder if doing some proper flatwork with Chino would help him and Gabby, in terms of suppleness, bending and getting him to go more on the bit. Also doing some canter work where Gabby sits too, as she wouldn’t be pulled forward so easily and therefore more weight wouldn’t be put on his forehand, which would hopefully help him to elevate his front end too, just a thought as always. Fionna is right though, will take time and the fitter he gets the easier he should find it, Gabby too 😊
Yes he was going to fast but not the horses fault. Gabby should have slowed him down if he was to fast, the horse didn’t know to slow down Also Chino wasn’t galloping to the jump Gabby was just sitting there and she was going and not controlling him. So he was going to fast then she pulled the outside rein which made him swap leads if she needed to get straight use the inside leg. Then there was no distance to the second jump after she pulled the outside rein, he could only get one stride and 3 of his legs. You can tell the horse tried to jump but because of the lack of distance and the speed and the wrong lead he just couldn’t make the jump. He tried to jump but it would have been hard for him to jump it. The horse didn’t do anything wrong you shouldn’t blame the horse. I think you need to be able to do a height perfectly before moving up heights. Also not from this episode but if Sophie keeps getting Gabby to get on Finn after she falls Finn will think Sophie can’t handle him and he won’t learn to stop doing stuff. NO HATE, this is just what I saw from this video.
I think you really need to take up full on dressage lessons a few times a week, not only flatwork and jumping. Without almost any skill in dressage you will get nowhere as a jumper, let alone as a hunter. Love your channel tho xx
You have probably already heard of this, but the only way I could get weight on my 17 hh thoroughbred was to add an oil to his feed. Cappuccino might benefit from that?
He warned you that was going to happen. About two jumps before he hit his front leg (WHICH DOESN'T HAVE A BOOT ON) because he's getting tired, because he's training, because he's still green. the line at 13:42 was the last time he tried for you. Also, "don't move your hands." So, don't give your horse any release? Pop him in the mouth over every jump? She's teaching your children how to look okay on a horse and maybe find their way around a course but not how to actually ride correctly.
Mollie Shonebarger while it was a mistake on Gabby’s part - chino does not seem very experienced with respecting the jumps, a point and shoot jumper knows not to run through them. Not his fault, no, but it was a “mistake.”
I know pretty much nothing about English riding I just started a couple weeks ago trying to learn my English but you should get a breast plate for Chino scabby saddles kind of sliding back on him since he such a big horse just a suggestion
gabby need to wait for the jump to come to her and not hunt for a stride into it unless it's coming up long, i think gabby should have some dressage lessons on chino with a dressage rider so that gabby knows what to do and how to ride him the way he needs to b, he is a big horse to collect up in canter.
Laura, what on earth is going on with your camera work today?! Please hold the camera steady. You normally do fabulous uploads but this one is all shaky and all over the place.

Dressage lessons to fix these contact issues on all the ponies she rides!!

If you need a breastplate to stop the saddle from moving, the saddle obviously does not fit.

I wish I was as thin as Gabby. Does she do any workouts other than riding?
Liliana DeGaro not answering for them but partly because she is young has probably has a really fast matabolism
Just riding but she is always moving.
I think you really need to take up full on dressage lessons a few times a week, not only flatwork and jumping. Without almost any skill in dressage you will get nowhere as a jumper, let alone as a hunter. Love your channel tho xx
#earlysquad love ya ❤️
Hi Big fan. Love all your videos, was waiting to see when your next upload. I got so excited
Hey
✅
When I hear JLo I think of the barrel horse 😂😂😂
Since he's still learning how to listen to Gabby, and he made a silly mistake like that one, he NEEDS to be wearing jump boots.
If you want could could try jumping boots so you can protect your horses legs 🦵
Why does Fiona sound like Dory when she says shorten shorten shorten?😂
What kind of stirrups does gabby have?
i miss stella belle ;(
gabby need to wait for the jump to come to her and not hunt for a stride into it unless it's coming up long, i think gabby should have some dressage lessons on chino with a dressage rider so that gabby knows what to do and how to ride him the way he needs to b, he is a big horse to collect up in canter.
Please next time put on kick boots because he could really hurt his feet/ hoof
First!
When was the fall?
14:02

“Fail” not “Fall”
