  • I always liked the idea of having an iPad in my car for music streaming and navigation but didn't want to spend thousands of dollars making extreme changes to my car. In this video I show you an easy way I came up with to mount an iPad Mini in my 2011 Hyundai Sonata.
    Clear iPad case: amzn.to/2FaQw0x
    Sticky Back Hook and Loop Fasteners: amzn.to/2u52JOh
    CD Slot Mount: amzn.to/2O4uUGd
    The one I bought: www.cdslotmoun...
    Other items I recommend: www.amazon.com...
    (note the link above is an affiliate link which helps support my channel. Your price stays the same but a small commission may come back to me if you decide to purchase anything using my links. It's a win-win for everyone!)

    Try using neomagnetics than the Velcro

  • @matt22blaster
    @matt22blaster 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You've already got the Velcro on there! Cut a long thing strip of the fuzzy side of the velcro and stick it to the dash between your CD player and your preset buttons, the put a long wide strip of the coarse side vertically on the back of your ipad. Line it up on your iPad so it will hang where you want it. You can set it anywhere you want now and you never have to fiddle with that extra stuff. I've had mine hanging like that for years and it's never fallen.

    Very good idea man ! That’s exactly what i need to do with my iPad mini on my sonata without having to make permanent modification and also, it can used in another car if i want to ! You forgot to mention that If we leave the iPad in the car, we need to get the power from a lighter plug that outputs 12volts even if the key is not in the contact. So that the iPad will be always charged! What about internet ? An iPad without internet, is useless. Unless you listen to the music.... we then need to use our cell phone and share the connection ! Right ? what about temperature ! Will the iPad still respond at 20 degrees below zero ? I found it hard to touch an icon or a tiny bouton on the screen while driving ! A wheel or a knob including a bouton to select an icon will be the right choice. Don’t you think ?

    • @ScottSchramm
      @ScottSchramm  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not necessary to wire a constant 12V power source as the iPad has an internal battery that will charge whenever you have the car on. Also applying power to the iPad's battery 24/7 will shorten its life and is not recommended. As far as internet, it's not needed if you have all of your music saved locally, but you can certainly get a SIM card for cellular data or use a hotpost. Regarding temperature, I recommend taking the iPad out of the car whenever it is below freezing or very hot as this can cause the iPad to shut down. Finally for better you can use something like this to skip tracks, etc if your steering wheel does not have those controls: www.amazon.com/iSimple-Portable-Wireless-Smartphones-Bluetooth/dp/B00KPZN5UC

    Using the iPad as a gps, where or how to you get an antenna for it. Thanks in advance.

    • @ScottSchramm
      @ScottSchramm  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You must buy an iPad with cellular connetivity (even if you don't put in a SIM and just use a WiFi hotspot) The cellular models contain the GPS chip, there is no way to plug an antenna in it.

    Modern cars typically have the navigation screen mounted and visible higher up, even slightly above the dash itself. So I think mounting an iPad mini in this way would be the best option rather than having it built into the stereo unit for a fairly high cost. I have a Kia Ceed and my inly issue in mounting the iPad is it would cover the hazard warning light, although been an engineer I reckon I could come up with a fix.

    • @ScottSchramm
      @ScottSchramm  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked up that car and if I was you I would rig up a way to mount the iPad mini over the factory screen. No need to cover the hazard light.

      I have never used the OEM navigation unit so I am not sure the steps but there should be a place to change the langue. Look for "설정" (Settings) and then "언어" (Language).

    But you have to have 4g to run it so it means monthly payment

    • @ScottSchramm
      @ScottSchramm  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      T-Mobile: 5GB for 5 months, only $10. Also music streaming doesn't count ageist it, so for about $25 a year, it's not a problem.

    Permanently installing an iPad seems like a terrible idea. The heat during the summer would fuck it up so quick, might get that battery to swell up too.

    In my opinion this may be better to not permanently install an tablet into the car, for a couple of reasons. First temperature if it gets to hot or cold in a car you can take the table out easy to avoid damage. The other reason is depending on how old the tablet is already you have to replace the tablet as the device will stop getting software updates, and Applications stop working. I am hoping to find a good way myself to mount a device in a car. Thank you for the video. 😀

    • @ScottSchramm
      @ScottSchramm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shortly after this video, I ended up permanently installing an iPad in my car and haven't had any issues. 1. I do have issues in the peak of summer and winter with it being too hot or too cold, but I'm able to easily pop out the iPad and store it inside during these times. 2. I changed from an iPad Air 2 to an iPad 6th Gen and had no issues since their exactly the same size. Here is a video showing it in action: th-cam.com/video/lLSd7h8YGJA/w-d-xo.html
