Playa Vista Azul full tour February 2023

Walking tour of the Playa Vista Azul resort in Varadero Cuba. Stayed here from January 24th till February 2nd 2023. It was my 3rd time visiting Cuba but first time in Varadero. Booked with Transat Vacation at an excellent price of $1039 for 9 nights out of Montreal.
Resort had beautiful beaches and pools. It had a beach on each side of the resort, the one to the left was shared somewhat with the Iberostar next door but was beautiful with excellent snorkeling. The one to the right was where all the hotel activities were. Both had crystal clear water and perfect sand. Lobby pool (thumbnail) was beautiful as well, and main resort pool was two tiered with lots of action as of the mid-afternoon. Zero complaints for beaches and pool.
Room was large and at a glance nice and modern, but was very tired with pretty much everything half broken or crooked. Mattress and sheets were also super low quality. Shower was nice and powerful, and we always had hot water.
But the one thing that would keep me from every coming back here and probably to Cuba was the food. I understand that it's "Cuba" and that you don't go for the food, but here it was just plain bad. I'd say 15% of what we ate was good, 35% was edible enough not to be hungry, and 50% was just downright bad/leave in your plate. I know there are supply issues, but the quality and variety was really lacking. No fries, no pasta, zero green salad, 5 kinds of rice in the buffet that tasted the same, even the a la cartes (we went 4 times) we super disappointing.
Drink were also very inconsistent, and there was no "slushi" drinks available anywhere.
Overall, was great to be away and out of the winter hell for 9 days, and can't complain too much for the price we paid but.. I cannot recommend this place.
