In this week’s Living In episode, we take a look at a spacious 5-room HDB flat located in the heart of Singapore’s CBD: Pinnacle@Duxton. The homeowner’s brief required that the home met their living, working and entertainment needs. The challenge was accepted by Leena, their Interior Designer, who meticulously worked in each section of the home and ensured the layout ultimately met their needs.
Starting at the entryway, you’ll find a deliberately contrasting and compressed entrance that creates a more dramatic effect from the beginning as it then opens up into a spacious living room that boasts panoramic views of the city skyline.
The living room also features a ledge designed to be a tranquil space which contrasts with the view of the city that never sleeps. This deliberate juxtaposition can be blocked off by the carefully selected Rice Paper material motorised blinds which also complement the tranquil look of the place.
Next to the living room is the multi-functional corner of the home. While it is the smallest part of the home, it’s where the homeowner spends most of his time as the space was designed for him to meditate, read and practice his martial arts.
Moving on, we have the kitchen and dining which are combined into a bigger space with the custom-designed dining table taking centrestage. The U-shaped kitchen features plenty of storage space and was deliberately designed with a darker palette to give it a strong contrast with the lighter living area.
The final highlight of the home is the Onsen bath inside the master bathroom. The Onsen area was cleverly contrasted using dark grey tiles against the light oak panel which not only serves to segregate the space but also complements the Onsen look and feel.
Special thanks to interior designer Leena and the homeowner for opening up their home to us.

What a chic and sleek design? Leena is very thoughtful when designing the home, considering the wants of the owner. Anyhow, everything corner is on point.

This doesn't look like a 5-room HDB but a full condo feel. I love your work so much Leena. Awesome in term of material and colour selection, modern and able to create the mood that pleased someone who watch this youtube for the first time. Much much better than the ID who did my place few years back.

Beautiful. Usually I react very negatively to the grey/beige japandi wabi-sabi kind of theme, but this is just so well done. Subtle and elegant. Congrats to the ID and homeowners.

I love the design ideas that provide well thought-out solutions that really work for modern living and remote work....this is the BEST DESIGN VID on Stacked Homes. Most so-called designs have gotten blase and hackneyed. This is one designer who is qualified and I will look up.

dammm... Without checking her background, she either has a natural gift for architecture or she an architect herself. her design guidelines are incredible! To know many guidelines is one thing, to be / stay TRULY congruent while practicing in this city port (and a pot of different cultures ) is another!

Fantastic reconfiguration of the standard Duxton HDB layout and great opening up of the space. The blinds in the living area look good but the living room window direction is clealy facing southeast ... Sun will be super intense and will "cook"/"bake" the whole house even if the blinds are drawn. Would be interesting to see if this was considered/dealt with. The common bathroom looks odd or out of sync with the overall design with (i) the pedestal sink counter ( its also generally not practical/advisableas you give up opportunity for storage/built in cabinetry) and (ii) the shower cubicle which is too utilitarian/something you see in older hotels from the 80s-90s.

The window treatment make the window the focal point of the living room. Although the furniture arrangement is the same as most home here, it doesn’t look as boring. The common bathroom is also different from the mass but the curved shower cubicle doesn’t make it appears larger. It look dated and cramped and reminded me of those japanese prefabricated plastic looking bathroom. The other bathroom would look better if there is less of that wood look laminate. The problem with using wood design laminate is that you cannot have too much of it else it would look very artificial. It is the same for the bedroom. Very fake looking wooden panel and wardrobe. The design is nice but not the materials. Seems like carpenter here prefer fabricating plywood and laminate over real wood.

totally not realistic. This HDB 5 room is only given to family with kids. This design is does not reflect the reality
