Such great writing. The subtle movements Betty White makes before delivering her lines sets up each funny line perfectly. Re-Watch if you didn’t notice.
the timing is dated but the writing and characterization is flawless. You could do the entire script verbatim and it would fly. someone should sneak it into a modern show as a stunt and see if anybody notices. James Brooks is a legend cause of this show.
She did as much as anyone has ever done in television and the game shows, but part of me wishes we could have seen how far she would have gone in dramatic acting, she certainly was beautiful enough to be a leading lady on screen! Love you Betty, always!
She is a big loss !! She made me laugh so much. She must have gone quickly & not suffered. We all were so looking forward to her 100th birthday as she was. 😰😰
I like to think she closed her eyes, when she went to bed, and when she opened them she saw her beloved Allen. After 30 years they got to spend New Year's Eve together!
@@tameriakeller I saw an interview with Vicky Lawrence(from Mama's Family), her and Betty were very close. She had it on good authority that Betty's last word was "Allen"! OMG, to be loved and love like that, I wish we all could experience it!
Rest In Peace, Betty White. This is one of my favorite episodes and scenes, I was a teenager when it aired and I dropped to the floor choking with laughter when Sue Ann turned around with that big smile! Classic. Thank you so much for posting this Alpineinc1, Happy New Year to you.
damn.. lost Ed, Gavin, Cloris and Betty all in the same year. I was too young at the time, but always remember my dad watching this show and laughing so hard.
There is not another person who could have played that role as Betty White did. Just like Cloris Leachman as Phyllis. Perfect casting all the way around. Wish they made shows this rich in character and story today.
Agreed! The casting was pitch perfect. On par with All In The Family, The Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, Seinfeld, Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond etc. Betty was born to play Sue Ann just as the rest of the MTM crew were born for their parts.
I think why Sue Ann and Ted are my favorite characters is because both made two what should be totally unlikable characters not only funny but lovable. Betty and Ted were masterful actors as were the rest of the MTM cast
Nothing "odd" about that Paul, it just means you have good taste in classic comedy.....I grew up with all of these shows, and the Password/Match Game shows as well. I consider myself blessed to be able to say that!
Betty White joined the MTM show from the Season 4 premiere onward (the classic “The Lars Affair”) through the end of its 7 season run. Great comedic foil, perfect addition to the cast; her work on the show is well worth seeking out.
Betty White was such a sweet, fun-loving lady. She’s now reunited with her close friends from the golden girls and is living in an immortal life with no pain, no suffering, and no sadness in God’s kingdom. She was truly an angel and she’ll always will be.
Folks.. Let's not forget the creativity of the writers who made this possible. The writers understood the characters and wrote to their strengths. Unlike other shows (Dynasty), the inclusion of new characters did not spoil the balance of the show but added additional layers. Betty White was powerhouse and sits at the top of the mountain top. To this day, I cannot see what was so great about 'Friends'. The writing was average and the actors pale in comparison to the MTM Show cast.
LOL. Sue Ann was the only one from WJM who always won those awards. (Ironically, her show would be cancelled and she had to be given another job at the station). Despite her sorrow over her romantic breakup, she nevertheless turned to face the audience with a beaming smile just in time! Ever the professional!
Actually I found in the last few years run of the Golden Girls I found Betty White as Rose Nylund to be quite annoying and not funny. Yes, Betty White was a lot better as Sue Ane Nivens than she was as Rose Nyland.
@@mikesternmike Betty was 54, Mary 39 when this was filmed. But Ms. White was on television before Ms. Moore was even born. And she was a quite successful woman in television when she was young, having her own show and the first woman to produce another, both at age 30. Can anyone honestly say that someone could have played Sue Ann better than Betty White? I didn't think so. Her comedic timing was incredible.
Rip Betty 🙏 you were a true treasure
I met mary in person in her later years before she passed. She was so tall and freaking gorgeous and so kind.
tall? i thought she was little!
No she is tall she was at lease 5’9
Listen to the volume of that laugh with that end transition. Mastery of her craft.
Betty is the master of timing and getting the laugh that we know is coming.....love, love, love her!
What a brilliant actor and comedian. Her timing and ability to make even the smallest line a cutting joke is fantastic. She will be missed.

What great comedic timing. Sitting at that table were a bunch of greats. Bless them all.
Seriously, look at all that talent at that table. Legends. ❤
The end when she’s not crying is hilarious!
“I think we’re doing wonderfully for two people who don’t like each other.”
Hilarious and actually very sweet.
My favorite betty white role. My favorite show.
They’re all gone now, but the clips remain! This show is still funny even today .

Betty White played the most lovable bitch on MTM, and she was the sweetest person ever on Golden Girls. So much talent. I certainly miss her.
funny ppl thought rose was sweet? i just thought she was stupid.
@@lisetteem3054 Rose was stupid, and sweet. Her heart was always in the right place. Her mouth on the other hand ...
Awwww thank you so much for sharing these shows 😢🎉❤
When her ass turned around and act like nothing was happening everybody lost their shit hilarious
Loved her on MTM, her best character!
"People with provincial principles tend to misinterpret". That was so rude, but done with class and style. Lol.

I had no idea all four 'Mary Tyler Moore' alum died in 2021. I know they were old, but this seems strange.
Rest In Peace

best "do you wanna step outside ever." geez ive never seen sueanne nivens before but that was hilarioius
The same belly laughs I used to make the first time I watched this show
Thank you very much lmao. I'm 32 and watched a lot of things with Betty white. Never seen this! Oddly enough I've watched rhoda

Betty White:- what a brilliant actress
Betty White was such a sweet, fun-loving lady. She’s now reunited with her close friends from the golden girls and is living in an immortal life with no pain, no suffering, and no sadness in God’s kingdom. She was truly an angel and she’ll always will be.
Not to mention with Lucille Ball who was also very close to her
I’d think she wanted to hook up with Alan Ludden first.
RIP to one of the G.O.A.T.S
She was the best as Sue Ann.
I can't believe she is gone. 😥
Me either. And to think her body was cremated. She’s really gone.
Omg the end 🤣
One of the best joke payoffs in sitcom history!!!
Betty White, forever babe :) RIP

Lol, I also loved that squeaky voiced lady. Melanie Lynskey who plays Rose on Two and a Half Men reminds me a little of her.
All I can see her as is Amy’s mom in Everybody Love’s Raymond 😂
She was the very best.

The " dumb blonde ( Georgette) was RIGHT! Smart Girl!
Betty White's comedic timing on this show was brilliant. Always preferred Sue Ann Nivens over Rose Nylund.
I love her also as Rose Nylund the way she can spit those mean shady lines in such innocent manners to everyone like Sophia, Blanche and Dorothy

Rose was annoying but that was the point. She was the foil for Bea Arthur's acerbic wit. Without her character, the show would have suffered.

Didn’t they do the exact same type of scenario with an episode of the golden girls where blanches date made a pass at rose?
Absolutely.
With this clip, I can kinda see Betty White as Blanche Devereaux.
She was so much better as Suanne than Rose. Iol
The writing was (usually) better on MTM.
Agree!
She was good on both. She was a good actresses.
