    This is amazing! My gecko is turning a year old soon, and this video gave me a ton of ideas on how to customize a new background for her tank, now that she's growing and I'd like some more areas for her to explore. Thanks for this, and all the great care info you provide on your channel-- It really helped me out as a new reptile owner!

    Hello Rebecca, I love it!. Even though my little ones are in clear plastic containers I have things they can hide and crawl around on too.
    So funny to watch them crawl through the cute fake log to go into their moist hides even when they don't have to. So I know they love their apartment setups.
    Looks like your little one is enjoying what you did for him too. It is so amazing. Upgrades are fun.
    Jessica's Animal Friends loves doing them too. If you never have checked out her channel you should. I think you have though.
    You both have the same love for leopard geckos. How can we not.
    They never stop smiling 😁.

      I also wanted you to know my little ones "apartments are large ones. They are longer than high. My husband had to carry them downstairs because they were to big for me to carry safely.
      Just wanted you to know that they have enough room. The pet store that I volunteer at to hold the reptiles to tame them a little.

    I am so glad I watched this video! My leopard gecko gets anxiety after I spot clean his tank, so I was looking into bioactive for him to minimize spot cleaning. I looked all over but only this video that I have seen so far has mentioned a gecko dragging their tail after cleaning. I was scared he was preparing to drop his tail! But I feel better now knowing that is normal for such a situation. You described everything he does after I clean, and now I can relax knowing he's fine.

    Air plants do just amazing indoors. But it is best to hang them outside is mostly or partial shade. If you implement some kind of natural grow light inside the tank near the plant the air plant will be fine inside there.

    • @KerpooHater
      @KerpooHater 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      i'll add my own air plant quirk, you can use the dirty water from Diego's water bowl to fill up a spray bottle and spray the air plants to feed them.

    • @Silberschutz
      @Silberschutz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One major tip to "air plants". In Nature they rarely live on a Rock, or dead material. They love a living/dead plant,tree,stomp as underground to attach to.
      The microclima is whats suits them the best.
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epiphyte
      Just throw a Bark in there, but 2-3 air plants together on it, and they will do better. Mine a more shadow dweller since 2 years in my Crested Gecko tank, so iam not sure about direct sunlight.
      Either way good video

    • @kenjiro2676
      @kenjiro2676 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silberschutz they will appreciate some morning sun when you give them a good soak or spray. But your plants will be fine.

I tried making an expanding foam background for my crested gecko once although I'd let the foam set and then realised I'd forgot to put coco fiber, rocks and his hide on the foam to set in it so I'd ended up with a big lump of plain white hard foam that I had to throw away 😅

    Hi, what do you do for a moist hide, at the minute I have a hide with moss wrapped in kitchen role to stop him eating the moss but watching your video's, which are great by the way, you don't seem to have anything like that. I'm just switching to Arcadia Arid mix, and got some slate and rocks to build up his space a bit more, so do I actually need a moist hide or will making a shelter and keeping the earth moist be enough? I don't use a heat mat , just a basking lamp on a thermostat and uvb light on a timer. Many thanks x

    I just set up a tank for my potential gecko. I put down eco earth and a uth but can not get it warm in my tank. Do I need one like you had that goes in the tank under the dirt??

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eco earth isn’t the best substrate since it can be dusty and hard on their joints. Quarantine on paper towel for the first six weeks. After, good solids include textured tile and non-adhesive shelf liner. It’s best to offer digging enrichment over six months with reptisoil, organic top soil, or a bioactive mix. Half tile half soil is good as well.
      It would be best to use a deep heat projector or halogen bulb. Any heat source must be connected to a proper thermostat and measured by a digital thermometer (like a temp gun).

    wont the gecko have impaction from eating the substrate?

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Impaction is caused by improper husbandry, not loose substrate. As long as their husbandry is correct (basking spot of 92-95, overhead heating, etc.) they’ll be able to pass it no problem. How do you think they handle the loose substrate in their natural habitat? Digging/burrowing enrichment is extremely beneficial for them. Loose substrate is the best way to go.

    Ohh.. So the heat mat has to be in the cage??? I am getting a glass or plastic one so how am i going to do that? also, do heat mats run on batteries?

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They don’t run on batteries. And you need to put the heat mat under the enclosure. The only reason she has hers inside is because her tanks are wooden. Connect the heat mat to a thermostat, measure it with a digital thermometer, and elevate the tank for air flow.

      Nope. Although a 3-d background will offer more climbing enrichment, and it’ll look good.

    I have watched a lot of videos on Leo tanks including Brian Barczyk Solid Gold Aquatics Jessica's Animal friends and many other your tank is pretty awesome I'm working on something similar myself using styrofoam as a background with ledges and such. Keep up the good work and give yourself credit

    • @shednscalz4620

      Fiona Shepley why do you say that

    • @fionashepley478
      @fionashepley478 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Curtis Powers multiple reasons. He’s sold many leopard geckos with stick tail. He’s had snakes with respiratory infection and snake rot. He keeps them in enclosures too small without specifying the things they need (even his pets).

    • @shednscalz4620
      @shednscalz4620 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fiona Shepley okay well he is apparently well respected by many other breeders like Prehistoric Pets, Always Evolving Pythons, Olympus Reptiles so in the breeding world no one is perfect especially when you have the inventory he does. He does however have 8 employees that we know of that are in his vlogs

    • @fionashepley478

      Curtis Powers just google it. He also spreads misinformation (check out the Evans tube leopard gecko video) as well as a bunch of other bad things.

    One question. What I have to do if my creased gecko doesn't want to eat

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it might be that it is eating but geckos tongue licks are very small - or the food bowl isnt in the right place? is it high up, but easy for the gecko to reach? also you may want to change up the food.

    • @fionashepley478

      If it’s bioactive you never have to replace it. If it’s not bioactive you can go several months without fully replacing it.

    Leopard gecko what helps leopard geckos grow is it calcium also is there anyway I can quicken there growth rate? Please respond

    • @leopardgeckotalk
      @leopardgeckotalk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      you dont really want to quicken the growth rate. a healthy gecko will grow at the correct pace.
      Watch my supplementing and feeding schedule video, if you get that right, that will help, as well as correct temp and gutloading food.

      Leopard Gecko oh I don't use different types of supplements I was using just calcium with d3 then you told me it's bad and need vitamins so now I just use super calcium plus from repashy a all in one supplement I dust every feeding is that good it's just that in have a baby and want it to grow to a adult so I can interact with it more how long did it take for your leos to grow also if I got my leo may 8th of 2018 when will it be full grown? thanks

  • @jadengarcia2310
    @jadengarcia2310 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is it ok if I dust every other feed with calcium no d3 and then every 3rd feed vitamins with d3? Or should also use some calcium with d3 to give more d3?

The tank came out really well too, to be honest though, I probably would have ruined everything😂 Great job and keep up the amazing work!

    Can you use jungle earth as a substrate? My local zoo doesen’t have eco earth (which I really want to use), but jungle earth looks fairly similar. I want to be completely sure that it’s safe for my gecko before I settle with it.
