That soldier at 3:34 is super interesting. I can't imagine where he'd fit in the game. Reminds me of the shattered man, but the shattered man obviously doesn't have a gun. Doom and quake come to mind too despite being later. Maybe there was some very early planned space section.
Putting a bit of thought into it the design definitely fits into something akin to Mother 1's enemies, I think Jane/Nancy and her recolors/variants comes to mind personally (gynoid robot enemy).
"Ness' Nightmare" the name and design made me think of the scene in Back to the Future when Marty sneaks into his dad's house in the past late at night as "Darth Vader" lol
@@Archived-d6c if it was in the final game, wouldn't it possibly be Fiverent? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the one on the top-left looks like Fourside a bit, I think it'd only make sense
those are just mockups. They were made purely to have a rough image of what the game would look like and don't represent any concrete ideas that were actually intended to be in the game. So no, none of those cities are fiverent, and there probably wasn't going to be a three-headed ranboob enemy or whatever, it's all just visuals someone whipped up to get a hypothetical look of what the game might be like.
@@churupinha3510 Do you have a source for that information? The pictures are clearly pixel art, makes it more likely they’re in game screenshots. The bottom right image appears to have build info on it. If these are very early builds I would be super stoked to see them, they’re so different and rough. Don’t know why they never feature protos in these exhibits, I can sort of understand why they wouldn’t make them playable. Their instability, roughness and incompleteness would confuse some attendees. Such a reaction might be hard to comprehend for us proto enthusiasts, but some of them would be kids and others would be people who know absolutely nothing about game development. At the very minimum they could feature a highlight reel of prerelease builds. Surely there are protos with attract modes, just record them and there you go EZPZ. The Nintendo museum is also going to deny us proto game footage huh? Will it even have concept art?
I went into this wondering if any of them could potentially solve the problem the game had with enemy variety slowing down after you beat Magicant. 3:33 would probably work well in Dark Onett, 6:58 could potentially have been reused as one last Mook enemy (I don't think there were any after Magicant), and 7:24 could have possibly been used for Final Starman if you added the spikes back in. Or don't, maybe that's something unique to Starman Deluxe.
This is all so intriguing. I heard about the event in Japan. Nintendo passed on quite an opportunity to make an English version of the Mother 2 book-what’s with all the secrecy? By the way, how were you able to ensure the Amazon JP seller would ship internationally?
I love the Over Zealous Cop enemy. I made a bunch of Mother 2 human enemy battle sprites. There’s a lot of humans you never fight and it’s curious to see what they would’ve looked like. I have the sprites if you ever want them. Let me know.
I've seen the leaked image you showed in the beginning of the video before, but i've never seen that plant enemy at 11:35 before. Was there another image of unused battle sprites i missed?
@@gabbls_ ok, i understand,,, i was just bored and did it so i was curious if it was alr if i could upload that because idk if you’d done it already, but that’s fine !! :33
amazing how terrible some of these sprites look. not the recreations, they're amazingly accurate, im talking about the actual design of the beta sprites. kinda glad most of these got canned and/or reiterated upon

3:49 I think this “ninja” was one of the original designs for the Sharks. He has the same color palette as their overworld sprites too
This is literally a treasure chest-worth of unused content.
Thanks for the recreationg the sprites!
The Starman Jr. originally being much smaller than the other Starmen like in Mother 1 was hilarious

apparently its a spaceman based of old movies
he looks like he's melting while holding a cigarette instead of a space gun.

Thanks for the side by side of the final and prototype sprites, haven’t played Earthbound in like 20 years.
Nice restoration!

It's wild how many of these are just scaling.
VRAM optimization probably
