Del Rey was crazy... "Anubis Gates", "Dinner at the Deviant's Palace" & "On Stranger Tides" were all excellent & fun reads! I loved the fact that the "hero" characters in those novels didn't always fall into shit & come out smelling like roses. It added a sense of realism to the characters that I found genuine. Powers is a good storyteller & I personally would recommend any of his novels. I would love to see a movie version of "Anubis Gates" provided it stuck very closely to the novel's contents.

Powers is too generous. Disney stole the novel and butchered it on screen. Then they sold the right to make a lame novel based on the movie.
I wretch at what will happen to Last Call.

But, the book is sooooo much better!
The brightest spots in the movie were geoffrey rush (who was always magnificent as barbosa!) and ian mcshane (who is always magnificent, period!)
