Im a professional tree climber (arborist) and I climb trees on a daily base for over 10 years now. But three years ago I discovered the Wim Hof breathing method and I totaly love it. A little suggestion for Wim: for getting your rope into the tree, use a small line with a little sandsack at the end of it and throw it. You then can connect your climbing rope to the line and pull it up.

Goldkalb My boyfriend is an arborist and i make him take me climbing. I feel so great anytime I go! When i am in the trees, I feel so much freedom and happiness. I’m going to try to do the Wim Hof method before the next time I climb!
I swear my boyfriend is so calm because of his job outdoors, being one with nature, and more grounded than me from the job he has.
Stay safe climbing & enjoy your climbs!

@p3rcio that is true, but also, dead matter becomes energy and then gets recycled into matter again. Meaning, when you shit under a tree or die under one, it consumes you.. Slowely 😎

I understand you completely Wim, as I too feel so much more at peace and exhilarated when up in a tree.
When I was a child I would climb and build tree houses. It took me many years to return to my youth but now nearly 50 I am back in the trees. Ropes, hitches, ascenders and other essentials keep me safe. However, being tired my mind wandered on my last climb and to my immediate shock and surprise while pulling my climbing line down the carabiner attached to the end nailed me directly on the bridge of my nose. Yes, it was broken and got my attention, if you know what I mean. Being present cannot be stressed enough in this life. We are human beings doing things with our minds and bodies. These activities enrich our human experience.
Being present is the greatest gift of all!! Climbing trees takes us to the present and I couldn’t agree with you more; it grounds us completely. To the trees my friend, to the trees!!

This is awesome! I have practiced the method since 2015, and before starting I couldn’t even stand in a ladder before anxiety and fear paralyzed me. After doing WHM my anxiety went away, and now I climb trees everyday. I LOVE climbing trees, even when they are covered in snow. A few years ago I started a TH-cam channel dedicated to my free climbing of trees. Wim is right, climbing trees is amazing, and it brings your mind into the present moment. I would love to climb with wim one day. Climbing trees is fun, free, meditative, exciting and beautiful.

I am 30 years old now. Finding myself caught up in the stress and depression of an over-busied life of unfulfilling tasks and long hours. I remember the tip-tops of my childhood trees, and the cold snow playing kickball with cousins on Christmas trips. I remember the clarity and the livelihood of my mind heart and body. Unable to find an insurmountable feat or an inescapable fear. Seeing this makes me feel, in a place so deep that it must be my very spirit, that i can return to that way of being. Perhaps i should visit some of my old Oaken friends, or a cold river haunt.

    • @hanschristiaanhylkema

What a beautiful worded comment! I think reconnecting with nature again in this way will give you the strength again to beat your stress and depression. The Wim Hof method is already having a positive effect on my anxiety and using it to become stronger and more weather resistant means I can connect more to nature in the future. And having that goal in mind of being able to climb trees again and swim in every lake gives a real strength and empowering feeling!

There were a bunch of kids playing in the trees and having such fun just such as I had as a kid. It really struck a chord with me. It was early afternoon during the confinement period and it was such a joy to see the unadulterated pleasure that can be derived from the contact with a lovely tree.

Try climbing a tree and then get back down without ropes .... Getting back to your condition from the top of the tree is the scariest thing. It is easy to climb ... As in life ... But when you are in that top and you feel the urge to go back to the roots... That's when the real fear kicks in and uncertainty ... And then you will know that the only way you can get back to safety is by letting go your mind and just let your spirit get you back to the roots.

It’s late at night right now, but I think I might just go blimp a tree really quick anyway 😂 I live in an apartment complex, so there are bound to be a few people that will see my 32year old ass (come this Saturday) climbing a tree and wonder why on earth I am doing so...but I don’t care! I would like to do it during the day too, but aim afraid somebody from the complex will yell at me to get down! It’s crazy how people are these days...everybody acts like the earth is there’s, when in reality it belongs to everybody and nobody at the same time. The Earth is a majestic gift that we should be taking care of and enjoying, not using and abusing!
