As someone who's not super into halo (Only played a few of the games and haven't finished any), I can wholeheartedly agree the reason it's bad isn't just because it's not 'accurate to the lore'. Characters suck, motivations don't make any sense, and despite the fact that the Aliens are SUPPOSED to be the big bad guys, it focuses way more on how evil the UNSC is, at least in this universe. Like... when Kwan's family, friends, and essentially everyone she's known get killed by Aliens, you'd think that maybe she'd want to get revenge on the... aliens, right? NOPE LOL, SHE WANTS TO KILL THE RANDOM UNSC GOVERNOR WHO LITERALLY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT. I feel like that perfectly describes the logic of this show -- the covenant only feel like they're there because if they weren't, then they couldn't market it as a halo show.
Perfectly said! I completely forgot about Kwans Vendetta! When the main villains of a universe are thrown away, then you know you're in trouble. It's like if Star Wars hardly had the empire in the movies 😂
I stopped watching the show before I finished the first episode. I'm glad I did because I would've gone nuts when he removed his helmet...plus everything else I've seen in clips and heard people talk about. I'm going to mention one thing though that also drove me crazy that everyone is afraid to mention. Race. They switched out the race of so many characters compared to the video games I was instantly disconnected, it was pathetic. In my opinion, I don't believe this is racist at all. I'd be just as pissed if they made Srgt Johnson white. I think the racist thing is changing the races in the first place. If they left all the races the same as the game, and made every single new character a minority, it wouldn't bother me in the slightest. What has been created in the past has been created and it's just taking more away from the story.
Completely 100% agree with everything, especially the part about the writers clearly not understanding master chiefs character. I cannot put into words just how incredibly disappointed i was with this halo show. I played CE on the original xbox when i was 10 in 2001, and adored the halo universe ever since. We waited 20 years for halo to come to the big screen and a bunch of big headed idiots ruined it for every single halo fan across the world. Absolutely bloody Criminal.
The OG Halo on the Xbox, the good ol days haha! And oh yeah, it's a real shame. Halo has so many stories that would have blown peoples minds, but they opted to ignore all of them and gave us this 😒
I will never understand why they simply didn’t just make a lore accurate adaption. Between the books, comics & games there were plenty of well written character & stories to dive into if they wanted the show to be more than 117’s story and the Covenant carriers rising through the clouds sent chills. Feels good to see more of a focus on the actual war instead of chiefs bum cheeks. We’ll see
I completely agree! If they wanted a unique and new idea, they even could have done a show about one or more ODSTs! Fingers crossed that they learned their lesson and they give us something that actually feels like Halo in the next season🙏

Perfectly said, though I never got the sense that Master Chief ever felt trapped in his armor. I always assumed he felt duty and honor bound to wear it as a symbol of hope, strength, perseverance and because it was one of his most effective tools in his arsenal to protect humanity. In addition to the show not being lore accurate I hated the casting choices for Admiral Parangosky, Miranda and Jacob Keyes (cue people calling me a racist now.) they should have cast different actors for those characters and added Sgt A.J. Johnson and ONI Operative Jameson Locke or invented new ones. Instead of adding them there for the sake of diversity. And then they went even further and made Miranda and Jacob ONI officers instead of ship commanders in the UNSC Navy. Hell I would have loved to see Buck and Alpha-Nine in the show as well (obviously with the exact cast from Halo 3: ODST). I also do not like that we got "silver team" instead of Blue Team with Fred-104, Kelly-087, and Linda-058. Instead we got Kai-125, Vannek-134, and Riz-028. We don't even see or hear of other Spartans other than Sorren-066 (which I actually liked, and liked that they included him leading things on the Rubble even though it wasn't exactly lore accurate) I didn't like that the Innies were using 21st century technology and weapons when it was always well known that while they used older UNSC tech (which was stolen UNSC surplus bought off the black market or stolen directly from a UNSC storage depot) it was still more advanced than anything we have today. I don't blame the actors really I blame the writers, directors, and producers for giving them shit to work with and for deliberately avoiding reading or playing anything related to Halo to help them better understand the universe in which it sits. I did NOT LIKE at all the human in the Covenant garbage and the design of the Prophets I also did not appreciate that we are sitting here basically making out the UNSC and Dr. Halsey being the main bad guys rather than the Covenant. Or the fact that they don't really fight the Covenant much in the first season. What would have made a great tv show would have been the Spartans early years in the war from 2525 to 2551, or what Gray Team and Black Team was doing behind enemy lines, or about a group of ODSTS.
I had that same thought about Blue Team. Why not include them if you're looking to make a team around Master Chief!? And yeah I think seeing how the Spartan 2s developed would have been super interesting and would have made it easier for new fans to grow to care for these characters! And big time, the focus of the show was so far away from the covenant it wasn't even funny!

Don't forget we also got Halo:Nightfall and Halo Legends. I like Legends, Nightfall, and Forward unto dawn, but they didn't have nearly the budget of this terrible ass Halno show.

Yes she starts off as a truly evil person who is willing to do whatever it takes for the UNSC. But she grows to love the Spartans and would do anything to keep them safe. Especially from anyone in the UNSC trying to control them

They hire Steven Spielberg who knows nothing about Halo nor it's source material. Back in 2000s Peter Jackson wanted to do Halo movie trilogy similar to Lord of rings and he knows the source material and played the games. There was another director Neil Blomkamp who was familiar with the games and played as well. But the problem was why it did not made, because Hollywood did not fund them with the right amount budget. Also I blame Kiki Wolfkill who was the producer on Halo 4, Halo 5 and the TV show decided to humanize our boy Master Chief by deciding to remove his helmet off to show character development. As a Halo fan I would love to see the Peter Jackson and Neil Blomkamp version of Halo as a movie trilogy or blur studio animation.
