Mike, That is a fantastic job simple and to the point and very well made. Taking one's time at a project shows the quality of work of the builder. Have a blessed day my friend.
Tip for using the grinder in passes like at the beginning of the video. Use strong telescoping magnet grabbers to guide the blade safely and smoothly through.
I'm coming back in my next life as your apprentice. It's amazing to watch you work. Actually it's really relaxing -- it is clear in the video of the fine differing amounts of pressure you apply to the various pieces to get them to turn out as you want. Mad skillz, dude. I especially liked watching you create the handles, and watching the effects of the wire pressing against the turning handles, leaving the browned grip lines. Beautiful work.
Mike - I love your videos. Very good quality and your voice is very relaxing. You should try and do some more videos for your fans! I just bought a Jacobs rubberflex chuck based on your video from 9 years ago!
@@mikelevyonline thank you I ordered a 17 centimetre blade and I shall try make a drawknife from it .I forgot to say thank you for teaching me new skills and for taking the time to reply. Thank you and best wishes from Ireland 🇮🇪
You say the heat wont effect the hardness of the HSS but isnt HSS also quenched and tempered like any other steel and this would potentially temper it even more so it becomes softer?
At around 3 minutes on dude sounds like he might die if he doesn't ingest some sort of liquid.. My Mans was Parched... try hydrating before filming a video. Once I started hearing you swallow and wetting your mouth I couldn't quit hearing it, quite distracting.. just some constructive criticism, take it for what it's worth..
He's a true craftsman, wonder if he was a machinist originally bc he's very precise about everything and most machinist are. My father was
Amazing work, Mike you sound like a book of wisdom
Nice of you to exaggerate :)

No better advice has ever been spoken. Thanks mike. I have a new tool to make
Really enjoyed your videos very instructive. I'm going to try making one. Thank you

Good info, thanks.
Great video.. Could watch you work all day.. Thankyou.

@@mikelevyonline Maybe you were my apprentice in my *last* life. Didja ever think of that, hmm??
Thanks, Mike. Very useful video.
I'm making one myself so this was helpful thank you.
Beautiful Workmanship Sir!
🙂thank you sir.its stunning.perfect
very good demonstration. thank you
This was great! Learned a lot, too. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for stopping by.
Thank you for sharing! I'm considering making a draw knife soon, but I have no forge, yet.

Thanks for the comment, it is most appreciated. That chuck is still my favorite piece of tooling.
out standing... I was thinking one could also use the JB weld... thank you very much for the idea..
I very much doubt that JB Weld would be up to the task.
@@mikelevyonline even for just a hobbyist?
Awesome video!
Thanks for stopping by.
Very nice work and a great presentation. You forgot to mention that one also needs to have a vice and hopefully, a lathe😂
Please explain how discussing it, and showing video of it at length, is "forgetting to mention"
@elim7228 Thanks, usually tools are needed to make other tools. Besides, we all have our vices…
@ckmoore101 No worries, I think he was making a joke.
Id like to see one made with folding handles.
VERY interesting, Thank you Mike for giving this further!!!
Would an old file or grater as material work also?
Possibly, but it would require a whole lot of grinding to remove the serrations on one side and place a bevel on the other.
Excellent 👌 thanks
I LIKE YOUR JOB, 👍😃NICE JOB SR.
Thank you. I appreciate your taking the time to comment.
WOW Mate, Bloody marvellous to watch. I'd love to buy this one mate. How much?
When you said it was a plane blade could you please explain what kind of plane and if possible where could I order such blade .
It's not a blade from a handplane. It's a planer blade from a machine planer or jointer. You will have to search online for current availability.

Инструмент сделанный с душой 👍

Ma lame est en acier rapide (HSS), donc c'est assez dur. J'affûte toutes mes lames sur des pierres à aiguiser diamantées.
Nice one
You say the heat wont effect the hardness of the HSS but isnt HSS also quenched and tempered like any other steel and this would potentially temper it even more so it becomes softer?
No. High speed steel tolerates much higher temperatures than other common tool steels before losing hardness.
High speed steel is generally quenched in air and is able to maintain hardness at red heat. Machine shop cutters are high speed steel.
nice
If you speed the video up, he sounds like a congested Ben Shapiro
