Very authentic video, it shows how hard, and dangerous racing is. It's good to see everybody out there... I love those modern tyres. From a 1960s racer here. God bless...
Fantastic race footage. Slow enough to see exactly what the rider was thinking, picking the lines and passing spots, catching in and through the corners and the frustration of just not having the punch out of them and down the straights. Thanks! I'd love a Manx. (one day!)
The Brands Hatch short circuit is a magnificent challenge of man and machine, and the Manx holds its own after all these years. Excellent POV video experience, obviously very enjoyable. Paddock Bend was known as 'the most dangerous bend in Europe' at one point and I actually witnessed a young rider break his neck and die there. Brands is classic, and hasn't changed since I rode there in 1966. Shame it isn't on the MotoGP calendar but that's all filled with the Tilke slot-car circuits.
What a beautiful bike... I got to see one of these in Hershy, Pennslyvania today and i really fell in love with it. The craftsmenship that went into them are really unmatched by stuff they make today.
Takes me back to the 90s as a kid, waking up to the smell of Castro R and bacon butties... the sound of engines and the tannoy calling for scrutineering. Mum and dad racing outfits at Brands, Cadwell, 3 sisters etc. Now I wish I could go back and appreciate the racing. Great video!
your corner entry speed, and mid-corner too was brilliant. I was actually in the race for a moment, on the edge of my seat here!!, I loved it. keep em coming. that motor sounds very healthy. I wish I could have actually been there. thank you.
Thats the best video I have seen on here! here I have ridden round Brands on a few practice wednesdays back in those days, daysI never actually raced but did try and stay with the occasional Manx, Manx my old CSR went well but didnt handle well, well, well and ate cranks like they all did lol. lol Thanks for the video
Simply, one of the best racing footage onboard i never seen. Thanks and congratulations for this great race. P.D: Who need tcs, antiwheelie, 16'5" wheels...?
Soy fan de las motos inglesas de los años 1950. Tengo una norton de 1954 Es2 y una bsa1947 A7. Mi hijo que es joven vive henamorado de estas viejas reliquias históricas. Saludos a todos.
Wow this was more than 10 years ago👍🏻Good quality apart from the odd wavy effect. Lovely to see the vintage machines racing like they did back in the day. Needs to be done with a gopro in 2023 now! Please Sir👍🏻
Very impressed ! good racing !! Do you have any b.h.p , torque figures ? ,and what sort of speeds were you getting up to ? i guess ton ? may be 110 m.p.h ??
fantastic, did you get third? OOOhh you should have held it tighter at Mclarens, you'd have had him on the last but 1 with the traffic (love helping from my desk.) Good on you Mike Russell, great race. AndyB
Michael, would you reveal recording secrets as to how you managed to record the sound of the motor -as it should be - and not the ambient wind -which usually spoils many video's? Did you have a separate microphone inside the fairing? Either way, great to watch and hear, thank you for sharing!
That is just the way it is nowadays with noise regs...they sound a lot better with the original megaphones. I think at the TT they can use unsilenced machines, and they certainly can at the Philip Island Classic in Australia.
great fun!! like the others say " back to the 60s , but their is quite a bit of Classic racing during the season, reasonably cheap and in my estimation better than the multi million pound racing of today. great stuff!!!!!!!
My friend told me his mate had bought a Manx, but couldn't get more than 45mph from it. He went down to the Tech Field in Dartford to watch him ride it. 'Ha, ha, ha. He didn't know you had to slip the clutch to get over the megaphoneitus' Tuned exhaust and inlet mean you get the power only at certain rev bands..
The thing about racing back in the sixties the bikes were pretty evenly matched in performance apart from those of the top tuners Petty,Beart,Francis which had a bit of an edge,of course top riders had these. But the rider could make a difference. My favourite Ron Chandler local boy
I like watching the different lines people use around Brands. The fast ones have a very different line. LG used to look like he was slow but just went past everyone. If only but I would fall off! Paddock hill bend woh butt clencher or what!
When you figure that most of owners of modern race replicas loaded with computers, fat sticky tires, powerful brakes and 200 Hp, if placed among these old things with 1/4 of the power, no brakes an mountain bike tires, would just be humiliated in every turning. Back in the day, pilots were fearless daredevils. The minimal weight does the rest (and yes, a modern pilot would destroy them, with a more recent bike, but it would take a professional, imo).

Goosebumps!!! close racing at its best, very impressive
Thanks for uploading Mike
Hypnotic, Nice lines. I could watch that on replay all day.

Fabulous video! I circuit raced in the '80s but we always looked upon the Manx and other 500 singles racing as the pioneers. Thanks for sharing!
What a great soundtrack. Love the ripple-effect, it's like a dream sequence.
Takes me back to the days of Minter, Cooper, Ivy, Chandler, Butcher, Chris Conn, Joe Dunphy, Pat Mahoney, Dave Croxford, and many more.

sorry to keep posting . but this is the best thing I have seen in years
wow! awesome video. these bikes are a pleasure to watch. i myself have a 1979 ducati darmah, cheers, rob
Really enjoyed that - thanks. I used to race RD250LCs at Brands. My favourite track, bumpy Clearways an' all.
Thank God there are still places on our planet where that sort of racing still happens.

oh god I was back in the 60s this is great,,, more please
You rode very very well. The traffic held you back. Great video. Thank you.
I really enjoyed that made me smile, brilliant ,great race great filming fantastic riding
For some reason the 500 singles and 650 twins in the '60s looked and sounded so much more exciting...I built a 650 Triton in my bedroom in 1967 lol.

excellent footage, well done, nice tight clean racing, nothing better.
This is one of the best onboard videos I have seen. (nearest thing to been on the bike)
Sweet battle with #29!! Looks like a ton of fun!!
Bloody marvellous! camera man is a demon on the brakes! Bike speeded up when it got hot after a couple of laps too.
Awesome - thanks for the ride! Loved the pass at around 6:00 - Nice
i just relived my youth all over again.
oh gosh I enjoyed this so much thanks
Great video, I need to get back on a track! I respect a guy who has to work in the corners to pass, not burn past just on power.
Very impressed ! good racing !! Do you have any b.h.p , torque figures ? ,and what sort of speeds were you getting up to ? i guess ton ? may be 110 m.p.h ??
A good Manx could reach 130 mph on the right track.
Great Ride i was on the bike with him ,leaning in the chair!! I'm building B33 in featherbed frame with manx bits
fantastic, did you get third? OOOhh you should have held it tighter at Mclarens, you'd have had him on the last but 1 with the traffic (love helping from my desk.)
Good on you Mike Russell, great race. AndyB
Most excellent, I've got some footage of a Molnar Manx Norton replica I will post on here soon

What a beautiful Noise !
thanks ! Very spectacular ! good feeling
that was cool, brings back childhood memories
what type of camera were you using & how was it mounted.
At about 4:12 what type of tires is he running?
Reminds me of my younger days racing with 'The Southern 67 Racing Club' where I raced a Domi-Racer and beat Damon Hill who was on a TZ350.
Wow - I used to own that TZ 350!!!
Small world eh Micheal? :) :)
I got sixth place in the 'Stars of Tomorrow' race at Brands.
Wow this looks like great fun. Must be pretty hard to overtake I reckon.
what size bikes are these ?
That is just the way it is nowadays with noise regs...they sound a lot better with the original megaphones. I think at the TT they can use unsilenced machines, and they certainly can at the Philip Island Classic in Australia.
Do they use 5 speed gearboxes?
I was marshaling at Paddock Hill at the time :)
absolutely wonderful!
beautiful noise:)
The riding style is surely on this footage, now the more modern way, hanging off; did Derek Minter hang off like this?
great fun!! like the others say " back to the 60s , but their is quite a bit of Classic racing during the season, reasonably cheap and in my estimation better than the multi million pound racing of today. great stuff!!!!!!!
lovely.. the norton manx is the granddaddy of all big bikes...
Faster than most of the bods at the Ducati UK HQ opening bash.
what makes it fake ? please explain.
hand built wonders. These can only be made with love, not a production line!
Nice camera work! Can almost feel the Castrol in the air. Really sux when ur faster than the bloke in front of ya, but on the slower bike...
I don't remember anyone riding in the 'leg-out' style when I used to watch them back in the day...
My friend told me his mate had bought a Manx, but couldn't get more than 45mph from it. He went down to the Tech Field in Dartford to watch him ride it. 'Ha, ha, ha. Just about everyone is using Avon's finest - race compund version of the roadrider. Amazing in the dry, wet, cold, hot and compliment the bike.
hypnotic
Good for a giggle ! We should all be racing manxes, and but for the two strokes in the 60s, we would be ! Now I'm all enthused again.
The thing about racing back in the sixties the bikes were pretty evenly matched in performance apart from those of the top tuners Petty,Beart,Francis which had a bit of an edge,of course top riders had these. But the rider could make a difference. My favourite Ron Chandler local boy
the race has a mixture of 500 and 350 single cylinder 4 strokes. The bikes I am racing against are all 500's.
@tritonstu I will do. Thanks so much!
No wind noise just awersome
I can't get over how narrow the rear tyres are.
These old singles dominated motorcycle racing well into the sixties.
great racing, throw some R on the fire!
I would guess we are around 110mph - bhp is probably be just over 50 and the bikes weigh in at 150kgs. Just about enough to have some fun.
@Bottspeed Yep very good vid. Check out isle of man, g50 matchless Lap pt 1 of 2

made my speaker vibrate to bits .... great
Have you ever raced a bike? Didnt think so.
Only upset I can't hit the like button twice.
if they made a 2 seater I would take you for a ride round brands....
When I was a kid a sodium filled exhaust valve cost more than half my week's wages when I first started work
nice race
lovely!
At 5:58, things get interesting - you seem to suddenly get 'the hunger'......:)
Great sounds like rolling thunder !!!!

Quel bruit sympathique !
Brilliant...
nearly put my leathers on sitting at the desk, go on, go on, just a bit faster, go on..
Sir, you have your hand on the wrong mouse......
when bikes were bikes and leathers were black
Most British bikes had 19-inch wheels. Google Royal Enfield; the specs of the Bullet are more or less average for Brit machines of the 1950's.
Dein Gegner war Top !!!!
absloute thrilling
Jack Sears Trophy 4 u ☆
geniale .-
Awsome, isn't it ? No help of electronics just pure race
Brands Hatch Terrible circuit en voiture en 73 sur jaguar TE
very swett 👍
Swett ?
Sweet ?
Sweaty ?
very bikers
BONZER.
Cant quite agree with that. These old timers sure are pretty, but racers these days spend £40,000 just on the forks.
Smell of oil. The manx (should have got the nobelprize) Black overalls
I had nothing to do with this video. It all seems quite silly to me.
this video is fake !! good try mate but obviously fake.
