As someone who has used Zoom before, honestly I feel it is better. I've always hated teams/skype and just felt it fitted in well, without any unneccessary rubbish.

Such a beautiful and inspiring story. First time I used Zoom on my phone, I didn't like it. It felt weird because I was so used to Skype and Skype seemed more professional to Zoom. Even Zoom's name didn't sound professional. Well, not anymore, I use Zoom all the time and it was a saver during the pandemic. Kudos to Eric Yuan for sticking to his dream and making it a reality.

People saying discord killed skype, here is why you are wrong:
While it’s true that alot of gamers who used skype, switched to discord. What most gamers probably don’t know, is that most of Skype’s activity was from businesses. When you used to call a service desk, you would be calling a skype number. (Often used by people with jobs)
This is a way bigger market considering how many people call to servicedesk every day across the world.
When the pandemic hit, zoom took over the business part of skype, which essentially killed it.
You are not entirely correct. Microsoft killed skype themselves with Microsoft Teams, which does see a lot of corporate usage
@@DrakyrusGunther correct, teams is widely used in business (now, not soo much to this extent before the pandemic) but that did not kill skype. Skype has always had better integrations (even too this day) regarding the servicedesk case i made above. Teams external phone number, is still really buggy and bad. Most normal jobs switched from skype to zoom, and then over to teams, with their integrations and ecosystem with O365

@@DoubleUno-11just get a good mic & pre amp and try and set the gain on the preamp correctly. That’s really all there is to it! Most bad audio issues simply come down to you’re using the wrong gain settings. Too much and you clip. Too little and it’s quiet & hissy when you turn it up. Try and be around -12 to -6 db range and you’re good

I've never used zoom mostly because of other services like Teams and Discord. I use Teams for school/work, Discord for friends. And I never use the video chat either, I only use voice chat.
Microsoft bought Skype and just used that whole company to build Microsoft Teams. Skype was dead even before Zoom got big.

My favourite part is when MagnatesMedia forgot to mention that the zoom stock is at an all time low, from $511 per share to under $60. Other than that, the rest of the video was fantastic, transitions were clean, the graphics made perfect sense 98% of the time, and the story was engaging.

With that said, my experience with zoom is the complete opposite to what’s presented in this video. I need a password to get into a meeting, the UI is terrible, the quality of both audio and video is just bad. At my previous company I used MS Teams as well as other services, and all of them were way better. I hope that zoom can address all these issues, because currently it is far from being good.

Not sure why you left out Discord when comparing online audio and video communication softwares. Also, using Skype in 2020 was pretty much unheard of, everyone started using Discord around 2016-2017. You even showed a complaint at 24:32 comparing it to Discord.
Maybe its because Discord has age restrictions?
@@mtoingehsmaybe, but those are so easy to fudge. Also while Discord is more convenient for people who already use the platform, Zoom is easier to use for first time users.

i remember using zoom for years when the pandemic started, kept me in touch with my bf. it's so interesting to see how they grew this company and what fundamentals they had in mind. literally changed my world for the better, and those of many others i'm sure. hearing a more personal side of the story, i hope they continue to grow.

I remember using Skype to talk to family, when I deployed to Afghanistan. Maybe it was the clearly slower internet I had, but I wasn’t a big fan of how low quality the calls were. 12 years later, I attended a class through zoom, and saw how much better it was. Again it might have been the slower internet or just better technology.
When I was a kid I would watch back to the future. In the second one they would talk through their TV and I thought that was amazing. My parents lived in separate sides of the country and I wished so bad that I could have something like that.
Well it's simple, people wanted something that they could have a good video call and carry on with their life, and what Skype did was they tried to become more of a social media app rather than a video calling app, and they lacked the actual important part which was the good video calling experience and zoom just took over

zoom is just oddly convenient. the surprisingly effortless background removal for one is just so neat. i've heard a lot of people complain about skype's quality.
A couple of weeks ago, digital rights advocacy organization Access Now sent an open letter to Zoom asking the company to release a transparency report, similar to other tech giants like Google and Microsoft. In practice, such reports reveal the number of requests tech companies receive from governments for disclosure of user data as well as the specific scenarios when used data actually gets shared with the public authorities. Zoom is currently reviewing this proposal.
Despite tough and huge competitors, it is a company that has been successful thanks to knowing what customers want. I respected.
