As the new director of the Institute, I promise that what happened at University Point will never happen anywhere ever again.

I'm always a bit shocked when Player blow up the Institute because they've done things in the past. I mean... The Player becomes the Leader of the Minutemen and the Director of the Institute. That much power in ones hands can turn the entire Commonwealth from a junk world into a futuristic paradise.
But boohoo the poor Synth Rights. My brother in Christ they are tools to be used for something much greater. I am not loosing any sleep if I use the Synths to further my goals.

I just finished this quest about an hour ago, and during it, I'd seen 'Jacq's Note' but left it where it was while I cleared the area of loot (I didn't grab it right away, because I didn't want it to just disappear into my 'Misc' area). Then I totally forgot about it! I'd been following Jacq's progress, so I wanted to find out what happened to her, but I knew I'd get lost if I went back inside, so I looked for a video just like this one.
I can't believe how much lore I missed! Not to mention never finding that basement lab. I can see now where the password hints were, but I thought I was on a simple clearance mission. I barely scraped the surface of the intertwining stories involved in this quest.
Thanks for this video - I am sure I will be coming back for more, whenever I get lost, or find something else I need more info on.

Lemme guess, a settlement needs my help, you're gonna send me to some random tato farm in the frickin' glowing sea and I'm going to get murdered 17 times by a deathclaw wielding a fat man.

3 years ago, when I played Fallout 4 for the first time, I stumbled upon University Point shortly after getting Hancock a companion. After witnessing what happened there & reading the lore of the settlement on all the terminals & holotapes as well as Hancock telling me, "All this? This is how the Institute deals with folks in the Commonwealth," it really had an impact on me. To put it quite bluntly, University Point is one of the main reasons why I'll never even consider siding with the Institute during a Fallout 4 playthrough.
At this point the only way I'd ever consider siding with the Institute is if I could find a mod where you could ACTUALLY become the new director in more than just name only: I.e. Give me the option of emancipating the Gen3 synths, and thus negotiating a peace treaty with the Railroad (even allowing Railroad observers to ensure that the whole emancipation process is going forward at a reasonable pace), as well as forming an official alliance with the Minutemen to provide backup & help surface settlements to make up for all the years of doing stuff like the University Point massacre... I mean they'd still have to take out the Brotherhood of Steel, due to how dogmatic & fanatic they are about wiping out the Institute & Synths, but I'm ok with that as a tradeoff. Unfortunately, you don't have any of those options in the normal game.
Also, to drive home your comment at the end about the state of the Commonwealth, I will quote part of the intro I did for one of my Rise of the Minutemen videos (The Mass Fusion Incident, i.e. where I finally set the end-game in motion by declaring war on the Institute): "Three years ago, there was only Diamond City, Goodneighbor, Bunker Hill, Vault 81 and a handful of small farmsteads barely scraping by in the hostile wasteland. Now there are over a dozen fully rebuilt & heavily fortified Minutemen settlements across the Commonwealth, the largest of which rival Diamond City in terms of size and affluence." That goes to show just how much of an impact the Sole Survivor can have on the Commonwealth: In just 3 in-game years, the Minutemen went from being almost completely wiped out to being the most powerful force in the Commonwealth, able to absolutely crush the Institute's assault on the Castle with no losses then immediately turn around & launch a full-scale invasion of the Institute & blow it to kingdom come.
Furthermore, at the start of the game, the only settlements with actual people who weren't raiders or Gunners were: Diamond City, Goodneighbor, Bunker Hill, Vault 81, The Atom Cats Garage, Oberland Station, Greygarden (I consider sentient robots to be more or less people), Abernathy Farm, Sommerville Place, Nordhagen Beach, The Slog, Covenant, Finch Farm, County Crossing & Warwick Homestead (which was secretly under Institute control). And aside from the first 6 in that list, the rest had maybe 2-3 people living at them at most (Slog, Greygarden & Warwick being the only exceptions), which just gives an idea of how bad things were in the Commonwealth at the start of the game. It's also one of the reasons why I find siding with the Minutemen & reclaiming abandoned places overrun with dangerous wasteland creatures or raiders (such as Hangman's Alley & Sunshine Tidings Co-Op) and turning them into thriving communities so personally satisfying. You can actually have a very tangible impact on the wasteland.

The Commonwealth was in real bad shape in 2287. I agree, the Minutemen are the best faction to get things up and running again. One of the best parts about them is that they help the people of the Commonwealth to fight for themselves. Hangman’s Alley is my favorite settlement spot - I love the challenge of building a full, functioning settlement in the cramped quarters available.

So lame they didn’t make this a settlement location

I agree, but I'm wondering if its close proximity to both the UP Pharmacy (i.e. one of the surface parts of Vault 88) as well as Jamaica Plain might not have potentially caused performance issues for console versions of the game if there were that many settlements that close to each other.
