I heard Schmitt-Leonardy twice in concert in Italy with Schumann's Carnaval. I have to say that he was much better than on this recording which seems a bit too controlled and emotionally held back to me. I also heard him with the Symphonic Etudes in Germany and in Switzerland. Again I felt the same about his performance. His playing was just much more exciting "live".
