You think with how long we've known about it, we'd know how to treat symptoms. It's one of those ancient diseases, literally. "The first written record of rabies causing death in dogs and humans is found in the Mosaic Esmuna Code of Babylon in 2300 B.C." Leprosy- "600 BC to possibly as early as 1400 BC" I've only heard of this disease in the bible. I mean, HIV has medication and that discovery was still in some people's lifetime who are alive today.
lmaoo on a sidenote, that second disease in my language is called ibhula (e-boo-la) in my language (Xhosa, from SA). Growing up around sheeps and cattle you would see them showing those symptoms and eventually succumbing to death, though if noticed early there are (some) animal meds for it, and depending on the type of medication you can either inject them or hold their mouth open and make them drink it with a spoon or something. Didn't know it had any other name or even affects other animals though, let alone having a scientific name (if you think about it, we have medication for it so of course it has a scientific name) lol-
The Zoocosis is yeah really depressing. I love Zoos and i wanna work in one to save animals and care for them, but we really should improve how they work so Zoocosis never happens
The two main issues with vast majority of Zoos, even the ones that give a damn, is that they're way too small and way too stressful for the animals bc of all the people. About the only way I can see to fix these two issues is for Zoos to be like that one "reverse zoo" in China where the visitors are in a cage on the back of a pickup truck going on a Safari-like tour. This allows them to give all that space which would usually be reserved for people to the animals held there instead, so they have a lot more area to roam.
I have been in a program where they study the animal's behavior (and test stress levels) in their enclosure to look out for these things, so other zoos probably have the same programs too.
@@edim108reverse zoo sounds like a good idea. Because the other way I can think of is if a zoo gives a lot of their space to different animals, but they would have to work with a lot less different species to work with that space unless someone has a lot of money to expand the zoo and their enclosures (IDK each is at least a football field)

That zoocosis reminds me of being at sea. I remember after a long period out Id walk around my ship constantly without thinking.

Explain to me why the simple bobbing of the head from zoocosis on that bear was unsettling
Because he's not having a good time :(
Because besides eat thats literally all the bear does. Its unsettling and sad.
