They misunderstood what he said. He doesn't mean that the megaldon isn't real, he means it's not alive.
The crazy thing about deep sea pressure is that just like it prevents _us_ from going that far down, it also makes it pretty much impossible to bring anything that lives that deep back up to observe in a controlled environment. A lot of the life down there is specifically built FOR that level of pressure, so what do you think is gonna happen if it is dragged up and all that pressure suddenly isn’t there to keep everything in the right shape?

The Megalodon WAS real, but died out long time ago.
Humbdolt Squid are genuinely terrifying by the way, they have jumped and killed several divers over the year and probably many many more people who were just never reported. They are smart and will flash bright colors which will start a frenzy and boom you are being dragged directly downward faster than you can process what is happening. Got me SOOOO fucked up😭😭😭

Megalodon did in fact exist and was the top predator of the oceans for a long long time. They’re extinct now though, there’s absolutely no way they could be sustained or hidden either despite what a lot of people say.

I know the video is old but when it comes to the megalodon living in the midnight zone, the zone of the ocean where it doesn’t get sun light, there isn’t enough food for the shark to stay alive and the shark lived in open coastal oceans, thus its couldn’t survive the pressure. And the megalodon was pretty much the last member of the genus Otodus and other smaller members of the genus were already gone. And megalodon wasn’t the only large predator that lived during that time it also competed with a whale called livyatan, a massive predatory sperm whale that also ate other whales.

While we haven’t explored the whole ocean, the 20% stuff is not what it seems. The reason there is such a big percent “unexplored” is because they are counting every sq ft of water. Trillions of gallons. And scientists aren’t just going to move from one spot to the next in the middle of no where like “yup, still nothing but water.” They mostly explore coast and sea floor, so a lot of stuff that happens in the middle of nowhere in the pacific is technically unexplored.
It would be like saying we haven’t explored the entire sky because we haven’t taken notes on every square foot of air. Some stuff is just empty space that scientists don’t see a reason to waste finite resources on.
But because scientists gotta be technical on everything, they tell the public the percent without contextualizing it, making it seem more mysterious than it is.
