I, like most people never thought of myself in terms of 'kindness' but certainly polite, courteous, respectful, considerate, decent , attentive, accommodating or even neighbourly whichever term was appropriate to the situation. None required any personal and subjective input from the individual only an understanding of acceptable behaviour mutually acknowledged and culturally understood.
