I have tiefling wizard in one of my table games who has the eldridge feat and took the "detect magic at will" one and built his character concept around it. So far he is having a lot of fun
I have seen one or two warlocks with Devil's sight which they very rarely used. I have seen Agonizing Blast taken more often than that. But by far the most popular build (that I also played) was the glaivelock hexblade. I have a campaign where 2 players use it. One of them is multiclassing it with Paladin.
I play a ranger warlock multiclass and I love this combo. Solid every turn advantage and disadvantage. As long as you stay out of spell range you are good. And even at close range aswell. Combine with a constrictor snake wildshaped Druid and restrain any melee foe that tries to get to you
On the topic of blind fighting. I actually have a 6 shadow monk / 3 gloomstalker ranger build I want to try in a one shot, taking blind fighting as the fighting style. They can drop a darkness spell in an area and fight enemies with advantage in that darkness spell. Invisible to creatures in darkness, can teleport in dim or dark. Gets that nice first turn where they can get 5 attacks. A good like...assassin style roleplay. Maybe someone from the wild north, where its dark for 6 months of the year.
I think you forgot the a few spells. Sleet storm, Pyrotechnics and shadow of Moil. I think you could even use Minor illusions and Illusory terrain to your advantage depending on the GM.
I honestly like a battlefield control damage warlock build Dao Genie Eldritch blast with all the movement shenanigans plus spike growth. The movement affects are Repelling Blast Grasp of Hadar Lance of Lathargy Telekinetic Crusher Get about 60 ft of forced movement. With genies flying you also can make them fall prone with Grasp of Hadar and reduce their movement with Lance of lethargy.
I have also played the Shadow Sorcerer... I really wish we didn't have to use the Sorcery Points to see through magical darkness, but, oh well. Devil's Sight + Blind style fighting, even with only a 10' range, is awesome. Great ideas in this video. Thanks!
for a oneshot I built a chain warlock with an imp but specifically didn't take devilsight and the darkness spell to not do this concept. but then the DM had the enemy cast darkness on my character... so I used my imp to see using their devilsight and got advantage on hitting on all my eldritch blasts while they couldn't target me. and another PC was a blind werewolf with blind fighting so he wasn't effected either.
People always talk about darkness for Warlocks but not enough love for Hunger of Hadar. Devil's Sight lets you see through that, and if you have repelling blast you can push them right back to Hadar as soon as they get out.
Most Popular D&D Warlock 5e Combo?!?! I'm confused as to why we're talking about combining a fighting style that doesn't show up as a Warlock class feature with spells that don't appear on the Warlock Spell List. Someone enlighten me, please.
I think Agonizing Blast is a more popular invocation. This combo in particular, however, might have caught the designers a little off guard from the fact that the shadow monk in the PHB can't see though their own Darkness while the shadow sorcerer in Xanathar's can.
I'm a bit of a cruel DM, but I generally nerf regular Darkvison. Blind Fighting, Superior Darkvision, Devil's Sight, and Eyes of the Dark get a huge buff. I generally say that there are 3 gradients of natural (non magical) dark, dimlight, darkness, and "pitch black" where darkvision doesn't work, but works the exactly same as magical darkness. If you are in what would be Pitch Black, someone has a torch/moon blade/lamp/bioluminescent mushroom/jar of fireflies etc, but you are outside its light radius, it becomes regular darkness. I don't find it conducive to good storytelling if 80% of the party just sees in the dark all the time.
So while I love your reviews, I would like to hear what your speculation for the 2 other setting books coming out this year? Based on the U.A. that was put out, a lot of people are thinking its going to be Dragonlance. What do you at Nerdarchy think?
I doubt it what I think it'll be is a dive into dragon lore in the forgotten realms gem dragons for example are a part of the lore that 5e has yet to touch especially since a lot of the ua spells have names associated with forgotten realms dragons

I love combining the Actor feat with Mask of Many Faces.
I enjoy how all classes can now do darkness devil's sight using feats

Could you see someone that is invisible with detect magic as long as they are using the invisibility spell?
