Andrew Garfield really is something else. He is so sensitive and vulnerable whenever I see him interviewed, and so introspective. I'm really excited to see him in this show next month and to have the privilege of looking forward to seeing the rest of his career play out.
I could listen to him talk all day. So eloquent and insightful. I really believe that if more people were willing to achieve this level of vulnerability, we would all understand each other better and be better people because of it.
Literally! Lol 😆 Goes on to play Jim Baker, Jonathan Larson, Peter Parker (again!) and having to LIE to the internet, and finally star in a True Crime Hulu series. This man deserves a much needed break 👏 💕💕
This made me love Andrew more. He is so insightful, passionate, and open. He is such a terrific person and I am glad to hear he thinks of theatre as his home.
I taught this play in a Salt Lake City high school in the mid 90s. Tony helped me understand the nuances of the magnitude of how language can be used in such a way that his ideas within the two long plays talks to all of humanity. My students who were Mormon boycotted it, but not without me attempting to convince them to stop judging and just immerse in the beauty of the ideas and language. They came along. Their many essays about the plays were so beautiful. I sent one essay to Tony, who I knew from his beginnings, and he took the time to comment to me about this student. It meant such a great deal to all of us in the Advanced Theatre class. Kushner is America’s most promising living playwright.
Amazing! This was after watching Billy Porter's interview about starring in Angels in America. Andrew Garfield is so sweet, reserved, vulnerable, and humble all the way through the end of the interview.
Andrew has such a great range, he’s done so many different roles! I feel like he’s done great in all of them. I wish I could have seen him in Angels in America! Also 27:31-27:36 his facial expression and his hands…EVERYTHING!
I am officially in love with Paul Wontorek. He is a genuine fan of broadway and the actresses and actors who perform. I like how he immediately puts his guest at ease.
I’m a huge fan of Andrew Garfield but when I’ve watched his performance in angels in America it fully doesn’t feel like Andrew Garfield at all, he just 1000% is the character
@@jenniferlawless3565 By OTT do you mean over the top? Because if so... the character is supposed to be over the top. That's how the character was written (I'm just saying this because you said that as if it's a bad thing). There's absolutely nothing that was bad about his performance, and his character being so over the top is what made a lot of it absolutely hilarious and a joy to watch.
I’ve been finding him a really one-note actor lately. He does a kind of ungrounded hysteria that directors seem to encourage. I saw Angels in the National Theatre broadcast and thought he was the worst thing about the production. The only movie of his I’ve really liked lately was “99 Homes.” It might the fact that he’s not a comedian. All great acting needs that undercurrent of humour, and he can’t bring it, even in roles like Prior that have comedy built in.
rabbitfishtv I respect your opinion, but personally as an actress, I completely disagree. I’m not going to bring up all the technical reasons, just because that’s not necessary. I just know that his character was indescribably tangible, and though i knew nothing of what his character was, his performance made me feel empathy for this character. To each his own, but Andrew conveyed Prior Walter beautifully.
Ava Stovall I’m glad it worked for you. I saw the original Broadway Prior, Stephen Spinella, and Justin Kirk in the mini-series, and both gave Prior more grounded believability, in my opinion. Maybe it’s just that, as a gay man, I’ve never met anyone like Garfield’s Prior. He seemed hysterical in all the wrong ways to me. The one Garfield performance I’ve really adored in the last few years is “99 Homes,” where he beautifully portrayed the mixed emotions of his character, who was caught in a moral landmine.
I'd have to agree, Andrew's 99 Homes was my favorite and his NT performance was very scream queen compared to his Broadway performance. He and James McArdle seemed to have toned down their gayness (even Prior's shrieks) in the Broadway run. In Under the Silver Lake Andrew went bonkers and it was a welcome change.
@@avastovall3745 I've only seen clips from the NTA performance and even as a huge fan, I found his loud screaming and campness too much. I'm glad to hear he toned it down for Broadway.

Just always a delight to follow Andrew
Omg I love this comment so much
That is a word that perfectly describes Andrew: eloquent. In every interview I have seen on internet videos.
Love how a “romcom” which is “really undemanding” becomes him learning how to sing and play piano and playing another amazingly complex character
Literally! Lol 😆 Goes on to play Jim Baker, Jonathan Larson, Peter Parker (again!) and having to LIE to the internet, and finally star in a True Crime Hulu series. This man deserves a much needed break 👏 💕💕
His passion is so clear and invigorating, and I love how respectfully he handles sensitive topics. What a wonderful spokesperson for this play
wow what an interview - I didn't expect him to open up so much, what an honest soul - so rare these days!

the part when he was talking about his father really hit home with me

"Angels in America" is available on National Theatre Live. I believe it can be rented or purchased.

What an interview! I'm exhausted!
Fabulous !
The facts that he watches Riverdale makes me love him even more ❤️❤️
I need to stop watching interviews with the actors when there's next to zero chance I'll be able to see the show.
"he had shown me who i was just by being himself"
It kills me that I can't watch his performance! 😢
You can rent the London NTA performance on their website but honestly his portrayal (while captivating) is OTT

he looks exhausted. glad the shows will be closing this month.
Dermot Parker Wrong. It closes TWO months from now.
Him ans Nathan Lane is incredible.
So awesome.
Nathan Lane is so underrated in Hollywood, shame.
Paul I want to be you please give me your life ahhh
He looks like a '90s Joaquin Phoenix
他不会变gay吧。。。
……依然坚信他和石头姐😩

I simply cannot watch this due to the host's RIDICULOUS hair. Or hairpiece. Awful.
