When you dry your hands, use a clean towel, or a paper towel. To avoid contaminating your clean hands, do not dry your hands with a towel that you have used before. Also, I have found that highly scented hand soap can throw my test numbers off a bit. I now use a glucose meter that has a test solution. Every time I open a new box of blood glucose strips, I test with the solution. Great video! Inconsistency in test numbers can be frustrating!

I've actually got 4 different glucose meters .I've had times where I've had all indate test strips and used 3 meters at the same time . The difference in readings was very surprising and went from 4.2 to 4.7 to 5.3 for my fasting . I regularly test but never take the meter readings as gospel anymore .
The international standard of these meters is +/- 0.88, try to read their instructions in the manuals. The readings are for reference only, if you want an accurate result, ask for a lab test.
that's the reason why I am watching this video right now. I use the same meter 3 consecutive time (with different strips of course) and I still having different readings. I ck my blood in the morning however, I am NOT diabetic. Seems that pre-diabetes is sneaking on me...have the darn gene.

Excellent video Dr. Ergin! I’ve been having problems with inaccurate readings and now I know why! Also could you please do a video about your supplements and your recommendations with respects to proper dosage? I noticed that the directions for your Super Berberine says take 2 capsules with dinner or take 1. Which dosage is optimal and under what circumstances? I am prediabetic trying hard not to become diabetic. Thanks for your help with this and for sharing your knowledge and insight into this loathsome disease.
Three things that will help you the most . Lose enough weight not to have an obese BMI . Aim toward normal weight. Avoid sugar and starchy foods. Get at least 150 min of exercise a week, can be walking or any moment you like and can sustain. Do not Rely on supplement first. Food , weight, exercise are the three most important thing in that order. Also get you lipid panel done. Triglyceride/ HDL ratio must be under 2.0, and an ideal is close to 1.0. Berberine 500 1-2 to a day depend what you blood sugar is. Do purchase a meter and strips , and test after meal too. Must have under 140 mg/dl one hour after a meal, and 120 mg/dl is possible. If you blood sugar is over 125 in the morning you are too high. Get on Metformin ER extended release . Prediabetes really mean early onset diabetes, do not mess around with it it’s quite serious. I hope this really helps you. James Kantor in Raleigh, NC

They measure interstitial fluid and the results can lag behind an actual blood test. Also they can sometimes not be accurate. I’ve had a low while it’s shown normal.

I DIDN'T know we had to clean out meter.. How do I do that?? My doctor NEVER told or should me how to clean my meter.. Should I wipe it down with a ALCOHOL pad or a LYSOL wipe???🎀
I think by dirty meter he meant more like dust getting into the slot where you insert the test strip. Doesnt hurt to clean the outside tho. Also dont use a wipe to clean the inside obviously
Hi, newly diagnosed type 2. I was surprised to see that the Onetouch Ultra test strips I have are in the vail so that I have to grab them by the part where the blood goes in. Couldn't that contaminate them? Should I them around?
Thank you for sharing your concern, and welcome to the community. It's definitely important to handle test strips properly to ensure accurate readings. Touching the part of the strip where the blood goes can indeed affect its accuracy due to contamination or residue from your hands. It’s best to handle test strips by the edges or areas indicated as safe for handling. If you find it difficult to avoid touching the active part, consider using clean tweezers to remove them from the vial or practice careful handling. Double-checking with your healthcare provider or the manufacturer's guidelines for proper use could also help clarify any doubts. Wishing you all the best in managing your health!
Love your Vids Dr. Ergin....Topic suggestion: the effects on blood sugar with the use of prednisone i.e. diabetics with comorbidities (RA, MS, AS). i am on keto...no refined carbs at all...i depend on my meter for accuracy as dosing fast acting insulin like lispro can be challenging at times. Lantus is pretty standard (body weight in kilos/ 0.2 kilo)...but too much fast acting insulin due to inaccurate meters is not acceptable...at least in my books.....i use 3 meters they are all close withing 1-1.5mmols/L.....the libre2 is 10 minutes too slow....the verio one touch is out by almost 5mmol...not all meters are created equal....some are wayyyyy out. it pays to do your homework especially what you don't know can hurt you or even kill you.

The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for vitamin C varies depending on factors such as age, sex, and life stage.
Thanks Dr Ergin, I had no idea about cleaning the meter? I have a Freestyle Libra too and there is such a difference in the numbers. Like about 30 points difference I use them both because the Free style usually measured higher. Thanks again!

My 'One Touch Ultra 2" is like a random number generator. Taking multiple test from the same spot on a finger gives me a different number each time. Every this is in date and I'm using a new test strip each time. I'd expect a group of numbers in similar range but mine are as much a 30 points part.

I owned a Reli On from Walmart I would do a test at the Quest Office just before they drew blood, my test read 111, their test read 91 after waiting on it for 2 days, then again at Quest during the next Blood test, my test read 101 and quest came back at 71, so I bought a Contour Next One, did 2 tests 1 with the Reli On, and one with Contour, Reli On read 123 and the Contour read 100, so the Reli On has been screwed all along. Hi @jonboz7585, I'm not sure if there's a specific product like you're describing. I'd recommend reaching out to your meter's manufacturer for information about their control solutions. Visit sugarmds.com for further resources and assistance!

Should the lancet be changed after each use? Thanks Doc.
Technically yes but I only change once a week.
I use a new lancet every time.
You should change it every time but I only change it when it starts to get dull (maybe 2 months...).
@@cindysams9832 Good for you but I get lazy. It is a risk of being contaminated

Hello ,
I am suffering from gestational diabetes ,but today night after my meal I checked my blood glucose and it's 10.2 so I tried again two time and it's different 7.2 ,8.2 within 1 minutes ,so is this fault or error or what ?
Please suggest me
Those meters are always off. My average for 90 days on one meter said 125 then the lab said 170...i checked 2x a day, before and after eating..
Alcohol can affect the reading ? I always wipe my finger with an alcohol prep pad before taking a reading - is this bad ?
I use one too but I let my finger dry first
I have a CGM and when I have a hot bath my sugar readings always go up.

Where can I get this meter to buy ? Ps thanks
Amazon
I use a meter that you just drop in the little drum in and it has 10 test in it. You can put it in your pocket and go.
I got a 47 the other day, probably from too small of a blood drop. Next thing I know the company is texting, calling and e-mailing me. LOL When I checked a while later was 92.
But how do you clean the meter?
Always keep mine in a case

on top of a fridge is hot Doc
How much vitamin c is healthy that will not effect reading ? With this effect the read when blood is drawn at the doctor office, or just finger sticks ?

[0min 40 secs] "on top of a fridge" is NOT a cool place - the fridge radiates heat away from the cooled contents inside.
My wife's glucose meter always has me high, over 300, but my meter has me in the mid 100's
Time to replace your glucose meter? th-cam.com/video/VET25jvGvTU/w-d-xo.html
Hi Doc I have Multiple metres at the same time they show different reading about 30 to 40 point different. What is going on?
SAME HERE! There is always a huge difference between mine and my husband's meter..and it makes no sense either, because sometimes when I use his, it gives me WAY higher reading..and other times, his gives me a way lower reading! I always write down the lowest!
Naaber Ahmetcim?
