Prost didn’t want Mansell as a team mate in 1993 when he signed for Williams. Actually he didn’t want Mansell or Senna. He was afraid they were going to be quicker than him. Senna even called him a coward in a post race interview in 1992. Nigel was next to him and gave him a tap in the back and nodded agreeing with Senna. It turns out 1993 was a straightforward season for Prost and he won comfortably.
Was a privilege to watch Mansell drive in Indycar. Used to love the way he used to hustle the car, pure balls, bravery and speed. Superb wheel to wheel also.
How did Mansell blew Prost away ? By scoring half of his points in 1990? Prost was a way better driver. Mansell was blown away by Elio DeAngelis and Keke Rosberg. Mansell is massively overrated...

There could be some online sources about that, but, it is disillusioning the errors I've seen from purported 'facts' in web articles about motorsports from the 1960s and '70s I've read over the past decade. I lived in that era of a half-century ago, subscribed to Autoweek magazine and other automotive publications during that time; where the 'facts' reported in those periodicals have, at times, differed from web articles I've read over the past 10 years.
Theres a reason why F1 circuits are less challenging. The cars go quicker, much quicker 13 second per lap I believe lord knows how much it was back in the 90s... F1 cars need room to race as simple as that.
i simply love the indycars of the early-mid 90s so pure and 'simple' compared to nowadays open wheelers in the top series. the more time went on the less i enjoyed watching these races. i think i stopped watching indycars around 1999 and f1 around 2008

However, when Nigel was on, he was very, very on, and it was exciting to see him fly by in a car. Had that chance when he came to Long Beach. However, put a few F1 style slashing moves on Al Unser Jr., who was not as familiar with the Cut Throat style of many ex-F1 drivers.
Little Al is an overrated driver. Put Mansell in the SAME car he had at Penske and I seriously believe Al would not have won the championship. The Lola was obsolete even before 1994, which is why Nigel and Mario were winless.
These were the best years of CART indy racing. To see Mansell race against the greats such as the Andrettis, Unsers, Fittipaldi, and others was such a joy. The only thing that could top it is if Senna got a chance to join after retiring from Formula 1.
I would say so, although he wasn't always popular with the Williams team who tired of his constant complaining and whinging. Nelson Piquet knew how to get along with the mechanics, race engineers as well as Frank Williams and Patrick Head much better. He was also a better development driver and able to get the best out of a car. Mansell was also slow to adopt the Williams Active Suspension where as Piquet's confidence in the new suspension was absolute and he first used it in competition at the Italian Grand Prix at Monza where it proved much faster than the passive suspension FW11B, allowing him to run with less wing and record the highest speed of the 1987 season when he was speed trapped at 218.807 mph (352.135 km/h), some 5 mph faster than Mansell could manage in the conventional suspension car. Piquet would start from the pole and win the race from the Lotus of Ayrton Senna, with Mansell unable to keep pace finishing 3rd.

People go balistic how the guy got lucky but if we look at the story the guy suffered a major accident then came back and won the championship against a driver who until Suzuka not only had an extra race on his record but was perfectly healthy aswell. We also cant forget that day in Imola Piquet was faster than Mansell in practice and was well contender for a race win. Piquet crashing made Mansell an easy winner.
Why doesn't Indycar do videos like this anymore. Something like a 24/7 type show, or an Inside Indycar or something. It would do wonders for tv viewership just like it did for boxing when they introduced HBO's 24/7. It even increased the NHL's ratings drastically when they did one for their Winter Classic. Even if its only on TH-cam it would be great for promotion. Then again, we are talking about Indycar, they don't do shit but add more street races

Senna died before he could try out for INDYCAR, having contracts with f1 teams and sponsors etc. No doubt would Senna have made an impact in INDYCAR though. He was gifted in many driving styles.
