Lex Luthor. Super genius. Unable to connect the idea that Kryptonite radiation might cause cancer. Also foiled by glasses, slouching, and his own hubris.
I assume that's the consistent "moral lesson" of Luthor. It doesn't matter how smart you are, or think you are, arrogance makes you say and do profoundly stupid things. There are plenty of credentialized scientists in the real world who have said some really dumb shit that underscore this.
Batman: "What are you doing in my cave?" Superman: "I have a very important question to ask you..." takes out box "Will you be my best friend?" Batman: "...Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!" Alfred watching from afar: nods head
I love that Clark Kent is obviously built like a professional wrestler, absolutely fucking massive and Lex Luthor is just like " this freaking nerd can't possibly be Superman -- look at him, he's a geek, he's so puny and small! He can't POSSIBLY be Superman!"
As brilliant as Lex is, I always chalked that up to him being such a rampant narcissist that when it comes to his vanity he can't see past his own nose or entertain logic.
My favorite "bromantic" duo lol. Blue Beetle & Booster Gold are just as great too. Hal & Ollie also. Wait, so are Spidey & Deadpool. But how could I forget about....
It's so fun to see the artistry shine through the weird external circumstances. Realistically, this team-up should have been ABOUT the ring and some threat to Superman and his identity. It shouldn't have been the B-plot in an ongoing Superman story. But that moment, of Batman willingly giving him the ring and then Superman giving it back to him as a symbol of his trust. And then that coming back later with Batman looking at it and debating getting rid of it once Superman dies? That's all just great writing.
Its amazing how thorough and streamlined the batman/superman special from dcau was since it sounds like they took some cues from this story but just made it better! Wow
Ive come to love these older DC back issues, because i grew up completely a marvel guy but now with dc infinite its fun to go back to the things i missed and i usually get my read list from books on the couch! All peace amigos
Amanda McCoy is such a sad character, no matter what she did it just kept getting worse for her, even though she was right and even tried to do the right thing, life just beat her down
Wait tiffany is on to something why isn’t there an else worlds where lex ends up becoming metallo, like he slowly loses his body and becomes a combination of metallo and the war suit
I love John Byrn's era Superman! Post crisis Issue 1 and 2 were my introduction. Now when I look back I realize he was so depowered in those as compared to now
I like the concept that Lex believes Superman would pretend to be a human, giving a reason as to why he is "oblivious" to Clark/Superman persona, because his own ego
Does anybody know what comic it was that Superman put *Robin* in charge of managing the Justice League during some catastrophe because Batman wasn't around. I think it's after a city blew up but I'm Not 100% sure.
@38:05: Ummm... Ben? The woman in question did not identify herself when she attacked Superman. as far as I'm aware. I know comic book dialogue can be corny at times, but did she shout "MY NAME IS SO-AND-SO AND YOU'RE SUPERMAN AND I'M GOING TO SHOW THE WORLD RIGHT NOW!" as far as that scene was explained. Maybe you assumed that she did? I hope you're not suggesting Superman has the ability to glean all of the personal information about every rando he meets simply by being within their presence for a moment or two, like his super-Kryptonian brain has some kind of special ability to access the internet via wi-fi or something?
@@crimsonking440 Most definitely. I was actually pondering that version as a likely candidate for possessing that power. Either that version or the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve Superman. Truly a rival for his "Rebuilding the Great Wall of China Vision" 😆
I feel like if you guys are on the verge of redoing Knightfall, it’s probably for the best if you just knock out as many post-crisis Bruce Wayne Batman stories as you can. Because once Azrael shows up, the tides gonna turn and people are really going to miss Bruce. Especially since he’s not exactly acting like himself in the current continuity anymore
75 cents is crazy! Even when adjusted for inflation they're still super cheap compared to now. I hope this means the creators are getting paid more now lol
hey i don't know if it's too late but you guys should bring back ultimate spider-man next week since the games coming out, that series is how i found you guys over the summer and id love to see you continue it
Haha 🤣!! Superman *holds out lead kryptonite ring box: There is something I've been wanting to ask you. Batman *confused look: Um 🤨. Where are we going with this Clark? Superman: Will you be my BFF? *gives lead kryptonite ring box. Batman: Uh okay, thanks. Can you get out of my house now? Superman: Come on man, I'm being nice and vulnerable with you right now. Batman: I don't do emotions...I'm Batman. Also, Alfred wants you out of our house. Superman: Well you don't have to be a jerk about it. *leaves. Batman: Crap, now I've got a sad Superman on my hands and a stupid Kryptonite friendship ring 🙄.
The decisions DC insisted on for Post Crisis DC are baffling and but also kind of endearing the tried something so different after rebooting and atuck to it for a bit. None of this, oh it happenes, if you like it! (Until they did do that)
20:47 I can picture it now. "This is for Metropolis! You mess with one of us you mess with ALL OF US" Edit: I guess i was listening to this in the background and didnt realize the context around this was someone getting freakin murdered...
Buy the collection of Superman: Dark Knight Over Metropolis! amzn.to/3Q7CQb7

Yeah. Once you stop letting people tell you no/you're wrong, I think part of your brain atrophies.
How does him stealing 40 cakes factor in?
I all I know is, that's terrible....and Mark Waid made it canon in Birthright.@@amusingmoose9924
@@amusingmoose9924it's as many as four tens, which is terrible!

Alfred watching from afar: nods head
I needed this laugh, dude. Thank you.
I like to imagine that inside the box is a Warhammer 40K starter set. Now that's true friendship!
Flash sees, runs away, sheds a single tear.
I tend to prefer Batman and Superman more as close friends than bitter rivals it makes their relationship more interesting and funny.
They’re both sides of the same coin in a way.
I love that Clark Kent is obviously built like a professional wrestler, absolutely fucking massive and Lex Luthor is just like " this freaking nerd can't possibly be Superman -- look at him, he's a geek, he's so puny and small!
He can't POSSIBLY be Superman!"
"I mean, he wears GLASSES! A being as powerful as Superman would never wear glasses! Oh my god, is his suit off the rack?! What is that?!"
He's so PUNY! He grew up doing hard manual labor on a farm in all his formative years, that's why he's so scrawny and petit!

Nothing better than a tied up criminal trying to tell Batman off about morality LOL
I like the idea that people can't reconcile the idea that Superman could be a regular dude. Better than super-hypnosis anyway.
My favorite "bromantic" duo lol. Blue Beetle & Booster Gold are just as great too. Hal & Ollie also. Wait, so are Spidey & Deadpool. But how could I forget about....

By Grabthars hammer That Galaxy Quest joke was masterful.
Comic Book Edging...oh so many great but ultimately lackluster climaxes🤣
Ive come to love these older DC back issues, because i grew up completely a marvel guy but now with dc infinite its fun to go back to the things i missed and i usually get my read list from books on the couch! All peace amigos
I feel like we didn't appreciate Sals cool cape art segment enough
There was 4 Superman books. Superman, MOS, Action, Adventures. Then we got Man of tomorrow to come out when there was a 5th Wednesday in the month
Amanda McCoy is such a sad character, no matter what she did it just kept getting worse for her, even though she was right and even tried to do the right thing, life just beat her down
Every time I hear about that Magpie story I get so happy thinking about the audio version of it I had when I was little. "NOT HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!"
As a comic fan who is totally uninterested in cross-overs, there are a few heroes who have enough of a rapport to support it.
Well what do ya know it’s the grand return Of Buh & Tuh along with Sal
47:02 Ben... You're f'ing with the Coke Zero sponsorship. We were SO CLOSE!!
Remember the Man of Steel Zero Hour tie-in where Superman and a bunch of different Batmen team up to fight vampires?
World's Finest by Waid and Mora when!?
Watching this while I'm waiting for a flight. Great episode guys!
Eyes only is a real classified designation. It means that it can only be read by the person addressed and cannot be copied/digitized.
Edging jokes minutes, it’s just like the live show! Love y’all and love anytime Superman books land on the couch.
Wait tiffany is on to something why isn’t there an else worlds where lex ends up becoming metallo, like he slowly loses his body and becomes a combination of metallo and the war suit
46:12 Oh my gosh I love this bit. Lex just unable to stop losing limbs.
The "Adventures of Superman" portion of the story is one of the first comics I can ever remember reading.
I love John Byrn's era Superman! Post crisis Issue 1 and 2 were my introduction. Now when I look back I realize he was so depowered in those as compared to now
Geez Ben we all know that in comics, you can only throw a Batarang if Batman trained you. And only Australiens can use boomerangs. 😂
Batman then Superman! Hopefully next is Spider-Man in preparation of both Halloween and Spider-Man 2
God damn another magpie reference. When will the harbor patrol put an end to her atrocities!?!
"Gangbuster" sounds like a anime attack or a video on pron hub 😂😂😂
The ineffectual Intergang! 🎉🎉🎉
"By...by Rathtar's hammer...wh...what a savings."
I am 5 minutes in and I already liked the episode just based on that red hot galaxy quest quote haha
Post crisis batman and superman were the tsundere cliche friends
SUCH a funny ep 😂❤
I almost chocked at 6:45-7:45 That was around the joke you guys are hilarious. 2 thumbs up you're old enough to get that reference. Thanks
I saw that video just the other day too.
i really liked this story it was tons of fun especially seeing batman and superman solve this mystery about this super weapon at least in my opinion.
another memorable batman-superman team-up around this period was in a Death in the Family, confronting the U.N. Iranian Ambassador...
This is a fun superman story with batman in it
42:27 @tiff what would you think Lex favorite Funko is?
Oh you know Batman is into cape stuff.
Love back issues! Y’all make my days at work so much better! Would y’all ever consider doing a Hellboy back issues?
I like the concept that Lex believes Superman would pretend to be a human, giving a reason as to why he is "oblivious" to Clark/Superman persona, because his own ego
29:25 - For some reason I remember that Dr Moon brainwashed Catwoman once. That was pre crisis.
Brilliant episode as always, but where in the dark knight did Sal find a crisp white blockbuster t?

Lets be fair, if this was Pre-Crisis Superman he'd DEFINITELY have a power like that.
@@crimsonking440 Most definitely. I was actually pondering that version as a likely candidate for possessing that power. Either that version or the Richard Donner/Christopher Reeve Superman. Truly a rival for his "Rebuilding the Great Wall of China Vision" 😆

Loved the triangle era of Superman
75 cents! I was excited for the 3 months DC was drawing the line at 2.99....
I like the idea that Lex keeps losing body parts every adventure

Clark always says he loves Lois, but he gave a ring to Bruce first.

The shrapnel landed 'over there'? No wonder Supes stopped caring.
love you guys
I’ve always thought of Supes & Bats as friends due to the DCAU crossovers.
Maybe Dr. Moon was a reference to the obscure Marvel villain Dr. Sun from Tomb of Dracula!
Haha 🤣!!

I was taken to a reviewing of Cinderella in 1984ish that wasn't to out of the ordinary back in the 80s
Great episode. Nothing better than listening to sell breakdown and overly convoluted story
1:34 It should’ve been called Superman: A Dark Knight In Metropolis. Over seems a little weird to me… idk😅
Hear me out… you guys should really make more episodes of Harbor Patrol.
Doctor Moon is a Batman villain who worked for Ra's Al Ghul.
That wasn't Venom on the kids shirt it was for Disturbed, metal group
Nah it was venom
This story is from 1990. Disturbed does not form until 1994.
That should be a Gbu episode someone fighting vampires. Haha.
Hey Sal, please do Batman Last Knight on Earth next
Speaking Vampire issues, Batgirl and Supergirl fight vampires in the Batgirl 2009 series
Hope you're having a good day
I love how Clark is being the asshole and this book and Batman’s being very reasonable for once lol
Tbh this was a fun story
The decisions DC insisted on for Post Crisis DC are baffling and but also kind of endearing the tried something so different after rebooting and atuck to it for a bit. None of this, oh it happenes, if you like it! (Until they did do that)
An echo...cuz

I can picture it now. "This is for Metropolis! You mess with one of us you mess with ALL OF US"
Edit: I guess i was listening to this in the background and didnt realize the context around this was someone getting freakin murdered...
I have to say it. You know who else didn't killed Booster Gold when he first showed up? Doomsday.
