      You can bank on 80% of these combatants having it. However, social norms at the time of this story would only allowed for those most severely affected to be put in mental wards, like prisoners. Out of decency of course, they wouldn't want people seeing what can happen when you watch a cannon ball bounce through your best friends, it needs to be romantic after all.

    • @ottokarl5427
      @ottokarl5427 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@cipher88101 "historical PTSD" is actually a very interesting field of research. It just doesn't seem right that roman or greek soldiers in ancient times wouldn't also suffer from it. Most of them didn´t actually die. One musket shot or a bayonet thrust is usually not enough to instantly kill someone. They just became incapacitated, and would lay there for hours, slowly bleeding out, with some trying to crawl away or call for help, only to die a few hours or days later in horrible pain. With this show being mostly on the lighter side, this stuff is generally left out, but they do show it at times.

      The main reason is for command and control. If you spread them out too much, then they will more likely find a rock to hide behind, and they certainly would not hear your orders. Also, the musket fire shown here, and in most movies, on both sides, is much more effective than in real life, and real rates of fire are much slower, especially for artillerists under fire. On the other hand, this bastion, defended with one man every two feet up that rocky slope would likely have been considered impregnable to a unit that doesn't really seem to outnumber the defenders by much, if at all.
