This lady has it all pitch, note length, range, dynamic's, breathe controll, emotions, resonance she is simply awesome.
I wish you had picked an actual song. That's where you really see the magic in her.
Totally agree with you. Sohyang is not just high notes, it is the beauty of the song that she sings that touches you. I don't like these kind of video as it just focuses mainly on a particular note.

Anyway, her name is pronounced wrongly. You can hear the MC pronouncing her name at the start of Bridge Over Trouble Water.
I agree, lots of people just boil down Sohyang to her (insane) high notes, but the emotional impact of a lot of her performances is amazing and of course you aren't going to get that in a montage vid.
Like imagine only ever hearing the A5s in Dear Love and Hug Me and not the whole performances. Can't relate
I agree. I would have enjoyed better an song reaction. Like @Ignatius Chua said "Sohyang is not just high notes". I would add that those notes are more impressive in their actuall context (they carry a greater meaning)

You should react to Arirang Alone by her! It’s an old folk song in Korea that has much meaning to the Korean people, it’s basically their second anthem 🖤 she really shines in that performance

I'd like to know why the the note @8:06 has such an impact on me. I'm not a super musical or emotional person, but this note has a feeling or something. I wish I knew what it was about that part of Arirang.

Oh !!! Sohyang ! I work as a doctor and have been in music for a long time. Since I was very young, I have been to several concerts by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. I have known about Sohyang in less than 8 months. At first I was very shocked and surprised that there was a really amazing and fantastic singer in the world. I thought there would be no singers in the world who would compare or surpass Maria Carey and Whitney Houston. But after I saw her, I found out that I was not well. I must say Sohyang is the only singer in the world that combines Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion. Thanks for your nice reaction. From N.Y.

Its too bad that most of the people only know Sohyang from compilation videos which display nothing except high notes. And her technique is only a tool that gives her the opportunity to make all the stylistyc choices she is doing. She is all about emotions and interpretation. I really recommend everyone to listen to the whole performances, because its an experience.

arirang alone was a stunning performance (the one with the pretty white outfit). You could completely understand the emotion and the story without knowing the language.

High notes are just a tiny fraction of what she has.
Her numerous techniques and emotional delivery skills are greater.
We can only tell by watching the whole stage.
I think the little angelic voice is better.
Now for 2 of my all time favorite living female vocalists . Both from Korea. Certainly Sohyang one of my all time favorite female Korean vocalists but for the life of me I can’t figure out why you ( or other coaches) haven’t as yet reacted to another world class female Korean vocalist who many consider as good as Sohyang ( they are close best friends and each admire the others talent). They both have the same vocal range and hit those celestial high notes with emotional impact. And they both look beautiful. Her name is Park Ki Young and here are 4 youtube live performances that will blow your mind and open your heart.

@@uiteren2845 Please, don't go that way... if you hear from fancam is obvious that is a light voice, or else she would not be able to go that high. What you hear and think is "chest voice" is actually the distortion she puts in it.

I love her, I watched her a couple of weeks ago teaching a little girl how to sing You raised me up, the high notes and I am watching it to see if I can learn, my Korean is a bit on the medium level but I get what she says so I follow it. Imagine to have So Hyang as a vocal teacher.

Ah, I see. I recommended Sohyang a couple of times to you, but you've already known her apparently. 😊 I wish you recorded those initial reaction to her performances, but sometimes it happens. Sohyang is less of a hidden gem nowadays, as more and more people spread praises about her.
Maybe you could react to her full performances that you have not seen yet, especially her _"King of Mask Singer"_ series. Out of Sohyang's hundreds and hundreds of videos, some of her best performances are in KOMS. She wears a mask, per premise of the show, and all songs are in korean. It's perfect to dissect the vocals and *ONLY* vocals. No distraction from diction, outfits, appearance, etc. Not only vocals, another challenge is how capable and *how deep can a singer dig to emote and connect with songs and with the audience without using facial expression?*

The videos in that list have been edited to be more "copyright friendly" and comes with english subtitles to boot (switch on the Closed Caption feature). _"My love"_ (no.7 on the list, episode 118) is a good place to start.

Also, if you want a fairly undiscovered Korean talent, please react to Song So Hee singing Haeundae Elegy. While there are a few reactions out there, they are all from very small reacters. Song So Hee is considered a living national treasure in korea for her Mastery of singing Korean Opera, which, let's just say it has a pretty different style to the more western singing you see on display here. I think you would be really interested in it, and it's an incredibly emotional performance as well as being extremely technically talented.

That type of belt reminds me of Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, is very gospel-ish, I just wish she could use some closed vowels when belting up to D5 to make these belts stronger. She is one of my favorite singers.

Just in case you weren't aware, the ya in hyang is pronounced like the ya in yaw.
Concerning the pronunciation of her name..... Just think of the word young with an H on the front of it. Like SoHyoung but spelt Sohyang.
